great video! I know you mentioned there will likely be snow on a sobo hike. I know weather can be unpredectable, but I'm wondering what it is generally like that time of year? Is there a lot of rain/storms, does it get super cold/super hot. I'm imagining it being very mild weather all around with no bugs, maybe pretty cold at night - but not sure if thats naive thinkin lol
Its the desert so always except big changes in temps, it will snow before going over the mogollon rim. Bugs are really a thing unless there is lots of water which normally there is not. Average temps 70-90s with lows 10-40s depending on altitude
Dont leave so early, it will be hot as F. Late September early October is the time frame. If you got sept 1st ther will be no snow unless the sky island peaks at the end
Great video! I’ve never done an overnight hike in my life but I’m retiring soon and considering hiking this trail. I would like to go NOBO, is mid September too early of a start date?
Congrats on your upcoming retirement! My retirement allowed me the freedom to return to backpacking after a 40-year hiatus, and make new personal goals. You are going to love it, and there is so much to learn and experience. Every hike brings a new insight and revelation about who you are and what your body and mind can handle. Learning to “Embrace the Suck” (and it will at times!) is half the battle to be won. Whenever it starts to suck out there, I just repeat to myself, “It will get better!” And it usually does!
