Fayetteville, Arkansas
The Deputy Chief of Police at the Fayetteville Police Department was arrested for suspected driving while intoxicated Wednesday night, according to a department news release.
Bradley Renfro, was stopped about 10:41 p.m. for a defective headlight by a trooper with Arkansas State Police at Wedington Drive and Fieldstone Avenue in Fayetteville.
Renfro was later arrested in connection with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a chemical test and a defective headlight. Renfro was released from the Washington County Detention Center on $1,105 bond at 3:58 a.m.
He was placed on administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation. The Arkansas State Police is investigating the criminal offenses of the arrest.
Renfro was named deputy chief in late December.
He began his career with the Fayetteville Police Department in 1996 after serving in the U.S. Army. Renfro has worked various assignments in both the patrol and criminal investigation divisions, according to the department.
He was promoted to sergeant in 2004, where he worked as a patrol sergeant and supervisor of the 4th Judicial District Drug Task. After being promoted to lieutenant in 2013, Renfro served as the night shift patrol lieutenant and was later transferred to the special operations division, supervising various units, including the motor unit, Dickson Street bike unit and school resource officer program, according to the department.
Renfro was promoted to captain in June 2017, where he oversaw the administration, patrol and criminal investigations divisions.

Exactly !!. Not excusing what he did, but definitely understand he's only human just like everyone else & God only knows what he's been through &/or seen in his lengthy career. EVERYONE should know better than to get behind the wheel, & thankfully no one was hurt, but he definitely owned up to his part, behaved appropriately & honorably, no smug or entitled attitude or disrespect. Hopefully he gets the help he needs & didn't trash his entire career. I've worked with Dr's & Nurses that have became addicts, would short the patients on their pain meds & take it for themselves, write themselves scripts & so on, but they were able to go through treatment programs, agree to lengthy probationary/testing periods in order to salvage their long time careers. These things can happen to the best of people... ANYONE, but especially 1st Responders, Law Enforcement Officers, Dr's/Nurses, Soldiers or anyone who has or sees the very worst things that can happen to babies/ children, elderly or any innocent person. Anyone that's suffered a trauma or horrible loss, forced to end a life or accidentally take a life. No one is immune to it. Had this NOT been a law enforcement officer involved, most people wouldn't have had any interest or concern.

@@user-yo7cx7zk3rexactly and you know damn well if this were him stopping a regular citizen drunk driver, he would absolutely be arresting that person just the same. It’s sad i actually live here in Fayetteville and im not a huge fan of police and have been locked up in the past, but Fayetteville police have always been respectful and fair as a department in whole. There’s always going to be bad apple cops but all in all our department here do well with how they treat people. The chief from what I know about him is actually a stand up guy and well respected chief by our community. Sad to see such a terrible choice in a man that should absolutely know better than to do this. That makes it worse in my opinion than some regular drunk driver. When we put these people in places of power to have discretions on citizens lives, they are held to a much higher standard. People can bash this guy in the comments, but I will say, he acted like a man and not a cry baby. We all know that cops often do drink just like everyone else when off duty since after all, they are just normal people. Yes, he should have known better no question on that ,and I'm glad the trooper acted very professionally and did his job regardless of who this man is. I just hate to see a cop that otherwise has a clean record both on and off the job take a hit like this to his career (unless he is a known problem drinker off duty etc). With the pressures and crap they have to deal with all day it's surprising more don't get busted for stuff like this off duty. I wish him well and for all cops to be safe out there. It's one of the worst feelings to arrest a fellow officer for anything. But for something like this that you know is very likely to end his career especially after he told him he's been on the job for 28yrs. The Chief made a really stupid mistake but (atleast I didn't hear him mention he was a Chief) he didn't try and use his rank to intimidate the Trooper to let him go, he didn't fight or argue just took his charges like a cool headed man not making excuses. This was a hard one Lt. We had to lock up an officer from my squad in the lot in his patrol car waiting for his partner, I was the one who smelled the alcohol on his breathe and had to cuff him but luckily didn't have to take the arrest, someone else took it what was worse was everyone in my unit was hand picked by the mayor's office so he was terminated ,immediately. You got any basis for knowing what was "standard" before cameras? I do. 30 years ago, an officer I was on shift with was arrested for DUI. He was fired. Oh, and no cameras back then.
@robertpetty6110

Not really. I arrested an officer from a neighboring jurisdiction after he was involved in a PI accident back in the mid 80's...back then we called DWI, OUIL...and he certainly was.

@jimboalogo funny how some people think the BWC's are more for the Suspects than the Officers protection. Most LEO'S have zero problems wearing them, it protects THEM from the lying suspects & gives them all the prrof they need to justify their forced actions. Saving States/Cities & Law Abiding tax paying Citizens tons of $$$ in BS lawsuits.

We have all made mistakes, maybe we need to look and see if this a pattern or just a mistake. He accepted HE made the choice. But all of us have done stupid things and didn't want it to ruin our life so how about we throw no stones and not have to replace our glass houses and if this is a only time for this man let him do his punishment the same as us and get back to his job, a little more humble, a lot more understanding and a hell of a lot more wiser. Would be proud to know a this man who did not ask for special treatment but was a man about it. Good luck and prayers you come out of this whole.
