great video, i appreciate it. you really helped my decision. the ep5 is the winner between those two imo. now i’m looking at the sh4j vs the ep5…. cheers
I have been going back and forth between the Arken (EPL4 6-24x50) and the Athlon (4-20x50) for a while now. Glass quality between these two is very close, but I think the Athlon was a touch clearer once you got it into focus/parallax. But OMG the Helos (6-24x56) is 34oz and the EP5 is 39oz. I would go with the lighter scope unless the optics were noticeably better in the heavier scope.
I just purchased the athlon helos btr gen 2. 6-24x56 and Im so glad I found this video. I was second guessing myself. But the athlon is definitely more crisp when it comes to clarity
I wonder why Athlon went to a cross with the MOA Reticle and a dot with the MRAD. I have the Helos in MRAD and absolutely love it. I had never known the enefit of a center dot till the APRS6 Reticle and it is why I went with the Helos over others. Nice video.
I did screenshots between the two from where the parallax was adjusted. The target ball and the area around it was much clearer on the Helos. I do know this is being filmed through a camera and if I was in the area I would ask to spend some time between both scopes. Again I'm slightly biased towards the APRS6 Reticle of the Athlon and not the MOA Cross. I realize your comparing same same (MOA) but if this would have been done with the MRad Reticle it would be more silimar. Just my critique. Again. Great video
@@jdrollason yea I am not sure why they went with the cross ret in the Atlon! I like the Helos, we have several guys running them. The EP5 was just a little clearer to me in person. The side shot camera is the best thing I have found to gather this type of footage. That being said there is not a lot that separate these two scopes. I like the lockable turrets on the Helos when they work, I have had a few that was VERY hard to unlock in the cold weather. The Helos out shines the Arken SH4 gen2 by a considerable margin. Thanks for watching and thanks for you input.
@@pantherhollow5290 No. Until they have eyeball vision we will never be able to see what the actual shooter sees unfortunately. Thanks for the videos and all that you do.
@@pantherhollow5290 I didn't get that at all - to me the EP5 looked sharper - I clicked back and forth a bunch of times and each time I came away with the same thing - the EP5 was clearer. (look at the detail in the trees closer to the edge of the image) It also had much less distortion towards the edge.
Just a thought for you that I think we have covered before but you might do a video on the talos and the 4-14 black hound. They are both pretty comparable in power and fairly close in price I do believe. Another great video sir
Mostly because Black Hound has been reviewed immensely and quality is of a cheap scope on the price range it sits These two scopes punch well above their price point. Btw black hounds are absolutely garbage. Save your money. Athlon or Arken only two scopes at 600 dollar point anyone should consider mounting on a rifle unless your goal is to shoot soda cans in your backyard
Which scope is better for hunting and target shooting between the Helos BTR Gen2 4-20 and the Element Helix 4-16? Most shots will be between 25-500 yards. Will the cross hairs be thick enough at minimum magnification on either of them? Thanks in advance.
I have a question .but I'm going to start off with what I'm doing, got a Daniel defense delta 5 pro in 6.5cr I'm been betting my head against the wall on what scope to put on it been looking at the maven rs4 the tract toric, athlon ares etr what would u recommend to put on it? but if I cant make up my mind im just going the get the arken ep5 because I have 3 arken sh4
The EP5 will work fine. It depends on what your expectation of the optic is. The Maven and the Tract are much better scopes. The Aries ETR for $1100 is a great choice too. For me I would go with a 4-16 or a 1-10 power for and AR unless you plan to shoot a lot of long distance. When you move up in price you gain better glass. simple truth..
@@pantherhollow5290 thanks for the reply the Daniel defense delta 5 pro is a bolt gun with a 24 in barrel by the way not a ar base, but I'm looking to reach out to a 1000 yrds this year and I know the arken can do it but will be a little bit harder so I'm looking to upgrade with something that not going to break the bank that going to work in optics wish because all my shops around me sale vortex and nightforce and dont get the opportunity to look through some of these other optics you review that are I little cheaper in price then what i have available to me
Their new Bushnell Match Pro ED 5-30x56 for $699.99 retail direct from Bushnell is probably going to be THE CHINESE scope to beat. I'm guessing it's going to be very close to the Athlon Ares ETR and better than the Hawke Frontier 34mm for a lot cheaper. EDIT: NOPE, the EP5 is a far superior scope in every possible way compared to the cheaper Bushnell Match Pro 6-24x50 and has a superior Lifetime Warranty. The new Arken SH4J with Japanese glass on sale for $299 with 25% discount code also is superior to the Bushnell Match Pro in every possible way. It's a real night and day difference between them for sure. I also tried a Bushnell Match Pro ED and it's just barely a hair clearer than the Arken EP5 and noticed that past 25x magnification, image quality goes down the toilet anyway. EP5 and SH4J turrets are superior and the MPED is loose and not as crispy as the EP5 and the Bushnell zero stop limits the total elevation travel just like the Vortex Strike Eagle does if you use the zero stop on the Match Pro ED. The newest $299 sale priced SH4J is clearer than the MPED believe it or not. Bushnell shouldn't even advertise 30MILs of elevation which is very misleading since it's a lot less than that when you have the zero stop installed!!! With the Arkens, using their easy to set zero stop, it doesn't limit their total elevation travel. Lifetime Warranty on Arkens and they even send you a prepaid return shipping label so you don't need to send any money to ship it back for warranty. Bushnell on the other hand doesn't have a real lifetime warranty and only has a 5 year warranty on their electronics illuminated reticle and auto shut off timer. You have to pay to ship Bushnell brand scopes for warranty out of your own pocket and there may be a very long wait time without your scope with zero communication from Bushnell. They are also known to deny warranty claims and send back broken Bushnells back to the customer as well. It seems to be a lottery when using Bushnell's warranty where not everyone wins.
I do not carry Burris scopes and they are not eager to let me review them. The Midas 5-25 is the most popular 22lr scope in my area. I have only sold 1 6-24 Midas since the release of the 5-25. I hope this helps
He sells both Arken and Athlon brands of scopes. How can he be biased? He even reviewed and recommended Tract Toric and Maven RS4 scopes which he isn't even a dealer for and he actually purchased those scopes with his own money. EDIT: I got a chance to take a look through a new SH4J 6-24x50 with new Japanese glass and it's clearer than the EP5 we compared it to. It's unbelievable the new $299 SH4J is this clear and night and day difference between the older SH4 Gen 2 and way easier to get behind.
