SCOPE TRACKING TEST: 7 STEPS TO TRUTH:
1. Place a metric "truth stick" or board upright and as STRAIGHT as possible with the top edge being square (90 deg) to the line of sight of the optic.
2. Be sure the reticle (in FFP scopes being placed in the erector tube near the front of the elevation turret) of the optic is EXACTLY 25 meters from the stick. It only take a few inches of error at 25m to cause a 1% error in your reading.
3. With the optic being situated in a ROCK SOLID position, index scope to zero MRADs and aim the reticle at the top edge of the stick.
4. Verify the parallax is set PERFECTLY for this distance and that your eye is centered EXACTLY behind the scope.
5. Index 10 MRADs and view reticle placement of stick while ensuring step #4 is still being adhered to with this newly adjusted optical position. A perfectly tracking scope with place the reticle at EXACTLY 25 cm, if it is off divide how many millimeters the reticle actually travelled down the stick divided by 250mm. The resulting number will be your tracking graduation precision percentage, 100% being perfect.
6. Return to zero to verify nothing moved during the test.
7. Repeat several times to confirm test results.
