They really should have revealed Jason as the AK WAY earlier into the game, and built off of that dynamic throughout the rest of the game.

Personally I think Jason Todd should have just been Red Hood, he would have been a mysterious lethal vigilante. While the main villains would be Scarecrow, Hush and Deathstroke, with Penguin, Two-Face, Harley, Riddler etc as the secondary villains

I’ll never forgive rocksteady for putting the movie studios instead of the batcave/wayne manor as batman’s base of operations accesible in the open world.

What Rocksteady should've done in Batman: Arkham Knight was combine the Batman: Arkham Trilogy with the Mass Effect Trilogy in terms of having Batman talk with his Family throughout the game at certain points which could determine the final confrontation with Scarecrow. Once the GCPD is under attack Batman can fight alongside the Bat Family (depending on those who were recruited) and players can switch between them and perform double takedown maneuvers (except for Azrael since he doesn't know the Bat Family and Catwoman can't take down the brutes). Before going to confront Scarecrow, Alfred informs Batman he must bring his Family into the fight but naturally he's reluctant to do so and it is here the player makes the ultimate decision on whether Batman should fight alone or bring his Family (and if Batman decides to fight alone but had recruited the Family earlier, they will still come with or without Batman's approval). Here's what I had in mind for having the conversations with his Family (if you chose differently than Bruce did): Alfred Pennyworth- Recruitment Opportunity: While talking to Alfred, Joker’s face unexpectedly appears after visiting Ace Chemicals and Batman has the option to tell him about seeing the Joker. Result: If Alfred is informed he offers Batman wisdom and XP as seen in Batman: Arkham Origins (aside from selecting gadgets, there's an option to talk with Alfred) and also reminds him the Joker is dead and because of his exposure to Scarecrow's fear gas at Ace Chemicals means he's letting the fear cloud his judgment and must ignore the hallucinations. As a result Joker won't appear as often while in Gotham City and is only seen at the Cyrus Pinkney Orphanage, GCPD, Panessa Studios, and cutscenes. He will also inform the Family knowing Bruce would be foolish into not telling them around the time Batman visits the Panessa Studios after the GCPD assault. In terms of Batman's allies, it depends on whether or not the side missions involving them are completed before the final confrontation otherwise they will be left out and end like it did in the game. Once their missions are done, the player could then decide if Batman should recruit them for the final confrontation or not (and as seen in Arkham City there would be certain areas where the player could switch characters to explore the city but they won't participate in the main walkthrough, the side missions, or even drive the Batmobile). (Note: If his allies are recruited, some predator rooms during the game would have fewer enemies since they took a hit from the Bat Family and will have comments on each of them, except for the Arkham Knight’s militia since that task belongs to Batman alone) Azrael (Michael Lane)- Recruitment Opportunity: Upon completing the Heir to the Cowl side mission the player must decide to either try to kill Batman, break the sword, or walk away (Note: If the player chooses to walk away then Azrael will not participate, while trying to kill Batman ends like it did in the game) Result: He states while the Order of St. Dumas has to answer for what they did to him, he decides that can wait since Batman needs all the help he can get and considers it an honor to fight alongside the Dark Knight. Predator Room Commentaries: The criminals are unfamiliar with Azrael and think he's some Templar knight or assassin (Assassin's Creed references) . Location in the GCPD: Viewing the cell containing Batman's rogues gallery (Two Face, Penguin, Riddler, etc) Catwoman (Selina Kyle)- Recruitment Opportunity: Once she has Riddler's explosive collar removed during the Riddler’s Revenge side mission and they're outside the orphanage. Result: She'll act like she's not interested and would rather hit an art gallery or two, but will actually join in the confrontation (she's vital since she provides Oracle information regarding Scarecrow's location at Arkham Asylum since Selina tried to spy on Crane prior to the start of the game but was spotted by a drone according to her story after solving a riddle). Predator Room Commentaries: Every criminal in Gotham City now know Catwoman's an ally of Batman and next time they see her, take out all of her nine lives. Location in the GCPD: The GCPD Trophy Room Romance Opportunity: The only chance to develop a romance with Selina Kyle would be after defeating the Riddler for the last time and she tells Batman to "be a good damsel and bestow a kiss on your gallant hero." Note: There's a limited time window to return her kiss, otherwise their relationship may end depending on whether or not she was recruited earlier. As for her location within the GCPD Trophy Room the following results with the room's contents and the guards standing outside depends on the options regarding the choice to Selina's recruitment and commitment to a relationship: Option 1 (Worst): If the player doesn't recruit Catwoman nor kiss her, Selina will not participate in the confrontation and Scarecrow's location is provided anonymously by which is later revealed to be Red Hood. GCPD Trophy Room: Both guards are incapacitated and a few items are missing. Option 2 (Bad): If she is recruited but Batman doesn't kiss her, she's annoyed by Bruce being so damn stubborn but will still help though afterwards she leaves to be on her own. GCPD Trophy Room: The guards remain at their post but one or two items are missing and the items pertaining to Talia al Ghul are destroyed. Option 3 (Undecided): Both Batman and Catwoman will continue their traditional flirtatious relationship but Selina won't participate in the fight with Scarecrow nor join the Family afterwards if Bruce gives Selina her kiss yet not recruit her. GCPD Trophy Room: The result is the same as the Bad option though Selina leaves behind her calling card. Option 4 (Best): If the player recruits Catwoman and Batman kisses her, she will be officially included into the Bat-Family after the events of Arkham Knight and enter into a relationship. Result: Not only does Batman give Catwoman a passionate kiss she wasn't expecting but he will speak exactly the opposite on what he said in Arkham Knight (in terms of Gotham needs "something worse to defend her" and essentially admitting his feelings for her). Their conversation is brief but romantic (since they share another kiss) and ends similar to when he walks to the Batmobile and she says to him "call if you need me," and he replies with "I will,". GCPD Trophy Room: The guards are gone since apparently they trust Catwoman and she doesn't take anything. Nightwing (Richard ‘Dick’ Grayson)- Recruitment Opportunity: Upon completion on capturing the Penguin in the GunRunner side mission Result: Dick Grayson is surprised Bruce is actually asking for help given Batman had never done so in the past when he was Robin but accepts the offer and will do his part. Predator Room Commentaries: Several criminals question why is Nightwing in Gotham City when he's supposed to be in Bludhaven, resulting in some of them explaining he was the original Robin so it's no surprise that he would be in Gotham helping the Dark Knight. Location in the GCPD: Near the cells after entering the GCPD Oracle (Barbara Gordon)- Recruitment Opportunity: Unnecessary since she’s already part of the walkthrough. Result: If Azrael, Catwoman, Nightwing and Robin are recruited and Alfred is informed on Joker messing with Batman’s mind they will infiltrate Arkham Asylum to rescue Batman and the hostages from Scarecrow. During the final battle Robin and Catwoman work to establish connections to communications and giving Oracle the means to jam the signal preventing Batman’s unmasking being broadcast to the world while Nightwing and Azrael work to neutralize the remaining militia (Jason, now the Red Hood secretly helps them from behind the scenes and only Barbara knows about it). Location in the GCPD: As seen in the game Robin (Tim Drake)- Recruitment: Even though Tim Drake gets locked into a cell at the Panessa Studios, once Oracle is rescued by Batman this would be the only opportunity to go back to the studio and release Robin (though he's still pissed off at Batman for locking him up earlier) before Batman heads for Oracle’s clock tower and Scarecrow launches an attack on the GCPD. Result: Initially Robin will refuse to say anything to Bruce but after he is told Barbara is alive, he is willing to forgive Batman and will help him defeat Scarecrow and then heads over to the GCPD to see her (though adding they will have a 'talk' about Bruce deciding what's best for everyone after Scarecrow has been defeated). (Note: If Robin is recruited he will not be taken hostage by Scarecrow during the assault on the GCPD, Aaron Cash and Vicki Vale gets taken hostage after being called on false leads and they have to be rescued during the final confrontation) Predator Room Commentaries: Robin is the only one that will have few commentaries because he spent the majority of the game locked in a cell at the Panessa Studios. Location in the GCPD: With Oracle

Outside of the plot ive always wanted a challenge map purely fighting the league of assassins and the final confrontation be Deathstroke or Ras instead of having to basically fight only thugs despite there being ninja type enemies in the game

I see now why Arkham City is rated as a better Batman Game, the story has more consistency and makes alot more sense. For me Arkham Knight seemed like it was mostly focused on being a tank battle simulator, yeah some of the side quests were good, and I enjoyed some of the DLC (the Batgirl one being my favorite). Riddler was portrayed as annoying as always, I always felt he needed his own game where he was the Main Villian in the story line. What irritated me the most about the story line was the ending, why the hell did Batman have to take off his cowl? I mean Scarecrow could have still demanded he surrender blah blah but maybe Batman could have used his fancy Batcomputer to triangulate that Scarecrow was operating at Arkham Asylum, then devised a way to rescue Robin and Gordon maybe with Nightwings (and possibly Azraels) help. I mean that computer can do everything else but yet it can't track a big ass helicopter with Scarecrow on board and where it was flying to? I guess they needed a way to have Joker in the finale.

I am 90% confident that the Arkham knight was originally supposed to be an ancestor of Quincy Sharp revived by the Lazarus pit. But when they got rid of Paul Dini they just completely abandon that concept. What would’ve been cool is if we think the Arkham knight is originally Jason Todd but he’s actually working under Sharp’s ancestor.

Also this is something I don’t see people address, but the Art Style from city to knight (9 month span in canon I think). It suddenly jumped to crazy nearly futuristic costume design, with super busy designs.

Very logical points. The Titan/Joker blood was always the weakest gimmick of this entire series. Steroid huge Joker doesn't doesn't work with the character. Having people turning into Joker doesn't make sense. He's not some sentient parasite or something. Having him be a hallucination of fear of Batman and having Batman think he and Joker are really like would've worked fine to keep the great banter from ghost Joker and avoid dealing with the people who got infected.

Deathstroke should've been the Militia's Commander from the beginning. I can forgive Deathstroke for not manning those Militia Tanks but not Red Hood.

if they got rid of that stupid batmobile and riddler races…. the whole map was laid out for the batmobile it just didnt feel natural. after a certain point the game just felt like a batmobile simulator.

The Arkham Knight should have been Hush. Think about it. Arkham Knight's whole thing was that he knew Batman, really well even, and Hush's whole introduction (in the comics) was Hush manipulating Batman's life for MONTHS in order to break him, and the use of drones instead of manned tanks would've made more sense for Hush to do, because he doesn't really know Batman as well as he thinks. Another thing: Hush and Scarecrow are very closely related in the comics, with Jonathan Crane being Thomas Elliot's psychiatrist when he was a kid, and the Hush moniker coming from Scarecrow singing Hush Little Baby, so it would have been a great homage for Scarecrow and Hush to work that closely, and it would also explain why Scarecrow trusts the Arkham Knight so much. I think this, plus the removal of the Joker Blood plot, would 100% fix Knight.

The story went downhill for me after Joker came back mentally I honestly didn't want Joker to be back and I just wanted the main villain to be scarecrow and take out Arkham Knight completely I also wanted better side quests and a better ending

I think Jason should have been revealed during the ace chemicals mission where say it’s just Jason and Bruce in a room and he cuts off comms with scarecrow and reveals himself and the game should have been Batman trying to beat scare and the Arkham Knight while also battling the fact that he knows Jason is the Arkham Knight

The first 5 or so hours of the game should have centered around Harley Quinn. They should’ve drove home the point that Batman killed joker. In this game it’s revealed Batman is Bruce Wayne which I like but that could have tied into the hush storyline as hush and scarecrow team up. All of Gotham turn on Bruce Wayne, riots buy civilians all through the street Wayne enterprises is getting burnt down. Due to the belief of Bruce Wayne as well as Batman being a cold blooded killer. Then you could tie in the scarecrow idea except don’t evacuate Gotham this time. That to me would have been a much better story with a lot to tell in length. And to me the big thing would be absolutely no joker. Rocksteady missed a huge opportunity to do something with hush in this game. Also I would completely remove Jason Todd and the Arkham knight stuff. Oh well what could have been I guess.

Bro. The entire Arkham series is about the relationship between Batman and the Joker. And honestly I really like how they made Batman turning into the joker. For me it would have been much better if: 1. The boss battles should have been more varied, and be something we haven't seen before, kinda like the Mr. Freeze boss fight. Like the final fight between Batman and Jason Todd, it should have been more like the Mr. Freeze fight. 2. Make the batmobile a tool and not a replacement. Instead of the tanks be unmanned they should have people controling them so the player could find creative ways. If not that then remove the tank battles. If they do all that then for me that game would have been good for me. But can you really blame that the game became like this because they had to finish A LOT of things together. So honestly they did the best they could. P.S they made it seem like you were cleaning up Gotham, which was pretty smart.

My only problem with Arkham Knight was the boss fights. Particularly against the Arkham Knight and Deathstroke. Otherwise for me this was the best game out of all the Arkham games

I like your idea for Joker being a product of the Scarecrow fear toxin rather than the Joker Blood; cut the entire Harley Quinn section. The Arkham knight should have been Prometheus. He is the perfect Anti-Batman, it could have been where half way through the game, Scarecrow is removed from the board, and Hush is revealed to be the Knight’s true parter, attempting to rob Wayne Industries and torching the city to cover their tracks.

Yessir always enjoy your vids Irogen, and I always love a good fantasy rewrite as well. Personally, I would have really loved to see Harley Quinn play a way bigger role in the story. Seeking revenge on Batman for Joker’s death. Then in the end when Scarecrow and any other villain have Batman dead to rights, she can maybe see the glint of Joker poisoning in his eyes and realize he’s really the only living connection to Joker left. In a messed up way, Batman living on means the Joker lives on as well. And she can be the catalyst that Batman needs to turn the fight around. The factor that neither Scarecrow nor Arkham Knight could have planned for. Looking forward to your take on it though!

Honestly I really wish *The Order Of St.Dumas* had been the main bad guys I mean it felt like that was gonna be the case when *Azrael* showed up in *Arkham City* aaaaaaand saw *Bruce Wayne* as *Batman* it makes the whole speech he gave feel dumb now

I love this game, but the story in Arkham City is unbeatable. Paul Dini is one of the greatest writers alive rn, biggest problem for AK. For me, I thought Arkham Knight was an exciting new villian that could potentially be the biggest threat and possibly be the real one getting all the villains together to take down Batman. The reveal that it’s just Jason Todd/Red Hood was kind of a bummer. I didn’t like Scarecrow as the main villain, especially since they kind of went through his character in Arkham Asylum. They should of hired Paul Dini

It’s a really great point that you bring up how little the side missions are integrated into the main story, they’re REALLY disconnected from it. On the surface, that might even be how it seems in City, but it’s the little touches that make the difference. Oracle and Bruce questioning his sanity in the Identity Thief plot, Mad Hatter showing us a fake cure as a misdirect and a reason to engage. They’re woven into the narrative while still standing on their own.

I disagree with the false marketing. I mean we literally got what was told and shown. Also seeing Bruce act like joker for a bit is interesting to see. I just wished they used Kevin Conroys voice for those parts. Imagine hearing his laugh like we did in killing joke

Agreed with everything you said! Idk what would it take for them to remake this game. I want one done right, it’s such a frustrating disappointment to be given the proper Gotham, the proper Batman gameplay, but still nothing that we wanted out of the story. It was a big disappointment for me as well that there was no batcave and Wayne’s manor.

Honestly in the first moment when Batman gets infected with fear toxin and goes unconscious we could have had a moment where Bruce relives Jason’s death and played a whole mission doing that. And then of course we wake up to see the Jokers ugly mug because of the lingering fear toxin effects reveal Batman’s greatest fear. Then after that we only see changes on the background of the city with Joker themed props (basically what we already have in the game, but by cutting Joker in 90% of his screen time, this will be more impactful) As for the Arkham Knight, I would change his identity to be Damian, this of course would mean that a lot more time has passed since City, but I think that also gives the villains a lot more time to get the resources we see they have, with a private military to boot. And yeah, Joker AIDS should get cut after the cure already exists. It doesn’t need to be here. I feel the bat family should have more importance in this game, Batman has to basically stop Scarecrow from spreading his toxin all throughout Gotham and beyond, all the while fighting a military unit on top of the previous villains and crime lords, I don’t accept he did that all by himself in one night. So some more gameplay sections where you play as Nightwing and Robin would be nice.

Hush needed to succeed in overthrowing Bruce. Making Batman's comms dead, his batcaves inaccessible, batmobile gone, detective mode and map nonfunctional etc. and make Batman stranded as he struggles with his psyche, the fear toxin bomb and all the rest. Wayne Tower in lockdown and Batman needs to infiltrate it with his most basic ninja skills from the sewer level and fight everyone (Hush's new security) on the way, but before that Hush joins the fun of main villains and starts to broadcast facts about Bruce as if he is giving live autobiography with material from Hugo and whatever else he knows. Meanwhile on the streets someone like White Shark's gang or Prometheus bumps into Batman and rattles him. Hush is the one thing I waited to really raise the stakes and I couldn't believe his part was so tiny and irrelevant. If he stripped all of Batman's tech and allies at a critical moment and figuratively pushed him down into the pit when he was already at the brink it would have escalated things well. And done right Hush could have done it off-the-camera so when the comms suddenly go quiet and Bruce starts to talk on air with Scarecrow it could be played out as "is this a dream thing, is this fake, is Strange or Ra's or Hush back, or what" in players mind.

For me: Don't make Jason Todd AK as that's super obvious. Have him in it but not as the AK. Have Scarecrow feel like a bigger threat. Keep the Joker hallucinations but dial them down and yeah get rid of the whole Joker disease. Contenders for AK: A drone created by Sharp, Deadshot, Hush or maybe Deathstorke.

I felt like the game could of had done more like with the infected jokers and more villains and side missions because once you beat the game all there is rioters especially if it's the last game I wanted to see Scarface, Prometheus, Grundy, and Bane plus to free roam as sidekicks too.

I love Arkham knight but I agree there’s a lot that they should’ve done different. The batmobile should have just been for transportation and the story should have just been about scarecrow and his rogues not the militia stuff. Also joker shouldn’t have been in the game. Actually hush could’ve been the main villain too.

Hush is the Arkham Knight, Deathstroke was actually Scarecrow and Knight's right-hand man, Clayface was behind Panessa studio hostage takeover, and all of the season of infamy was in the main campaign. Right there, you take the game from a 4 to maybe around a 9.

The way I wish the game would have started was that people are trying to evacuate the city and penguin and two face try to blow up the bridges in Gotham while everyone tries to get out of Gotham and a boss fight with Arkham knight starts and your fighting for the people of Gotham. Your fighting so that people can leave and get out of Gotham and Batman fails. That I think would have been a great intro to the game. Not that there is anything wrong with the opening

6:17 I personally dislike Joker being Batman’s greatest fear. I think a lot of people exaggerate their relationship to be something bigger than it is. Joker is definitely Batman’s greatest villain and that one wall he can’t ever quite summit but I think their nature is supposed to be a really primal and pure one, they’re almost personifications of order and chaos. Those concepts never go away, they drive everything else and they have to exist in opposition. But I don’t think they necessarily hate or fear each other, they just are and it adds to the ethereal and meta feeling Gotham as a setting has. From the human perspective the animated series (most notably in mask of the phantasm and nothing to fear) helped me believe Batman’s greatest fear is his parents, or more specifically moving past their memory. Batman’s entire journey starts with their death, a lot of people say Bruce died and Batman was born when he made his promise to their corpses. It’s the one thing that drives him to do all the studying and training, what he dedicates his life to. I think that’s exactly what makes him so popular as a character and is the exact hinge that could destroy everything he’s about. Frankly he’d rather get cut and bruised up and shot at every night than go to therapy lol, but it’s a case where him not getting his own help ends up being best for everyone around him so it’s a pretty intriguing dilemma. I think it’s compelling that for Scarecrow to destroy the “legend of the Batman”, as is his goal, the best way to achieve that is to convince Batman destroy his own legacy. My favorite BTAS episode of all time is “I am the night”, where Batman questions the real good he does and comes closest to quitting voluntarily. The other time we see him question his self imposed mission this way is when he asks his parents’ grave for permission to be happy with Andrea Beaumont. I think both of those things are pretty good evidence that if Batman ever believed Gotham didn’t need him anymore, his own life would collapse. It’s what he devoted his entire life to because he believed in it so much. It’s kind of like Rachel’s line in TDK movies about how she hopes “someday the day will come when [Bruce doesn’t] need Batman”, or all those times people wonder if Batman inspires his villains more than protecting Gotham from them. Everyone around him can see how much his lifestyle erodes him, but the struggle is so noble and he bears it so readily they can’t really do anything about it. They either distance themselves or try to do damage control and steer him into not totally destroying himself. Batman can’t be outsmarted, outfought, outwilled, etc. Nothing and no one on earth gets in his way in the end. But I fully believe if his actual true parents (not alternate versions or anything) resurrected from the dead and told him to stop being Batman, as much as he hated it, he would. He is only Batman because of what he promised them in the first place. And I think the notion that he’ll never actually know with 100% certainty that being Batman truly honors their memory or that’d they’d be proud of him is his greatest fear, regardless of how much we as readers or his own supporting cast believes so. I almost believe if he had any reason to convince himself that being a villain would honor them the best way, he’d do it because he cares about them that much and they still influence his life every day to that insane degree without even actually being able to say anything to him anymore. I personally think exploring all that would have made for a much fitting conclusion to the story of this franchise

They could make scarecrow have some kind of voice box to explain how he speaks without lips and why he has a new voice, they could make batman find out the arkham knights identity really fast, hush could’ve been the reason they had all of that tech and money since he looks like Bruce, and the Joker blood plot should just be changed to be done by scarecrows fear toxin and not be through the whole game... Or they should’ve just you know... Not have fired Paul Dini.

I think Batman would be afraid that he might cross a line and become as bad or worse than the people he fights, so I think Batman being afraid of turning into the Joker is fine as a concept. Maybe they should have left the Joker blood out of it. Though I did like the lady Joker. I kinda wish she’d survived and come back later in the game.

It was blatantly obvious that it was Jason Todd from the first trailer with the Arkham Knight. Voice sounds somewhat young, dual wield pistols and then they to “throw us off” they announce that Red Hood is a DLC. Huh it’s like any comic fan could put two and two together. You made some great points and rs should have stayed to original story and kept a real writer😂 a lot of the stuff you describe was just filler Firefly , Too Faced etcetera was wash rinse and repeat. The season of infamy add the best written stories by far. The bat tank mobile was a joke and way overused as it took away from the feeling of being the Batman😢

This kinda boils down to after Paul dini left, rocksteady started to smell their own farts and thought they had the most big brain story ever.

I think this game is a massive disappointment

I don’t like how Batman comes up on top every single time. For example Barbara isn’t actually dead, Robin doesn’t actually die when he gets shot there at the end. Then Batman doesn’t actually kill Gordon it’s just a hallucination. Batman himself doesn’t actually die at the end. There’s many more examples like these where he just comes up on top for no reason… “Oh nvm it was just an hallucination” is a bad story direction imo. I feel like Batman should be a dark story with devastating losses but he never gives up and THEN comes up on top. They could have done something with Arkham Knight (Jason Todd) sacrificing himself at the end to save Batman but nope he just quickly shoot Batman free quickly with a sniper…

Man, the pacing in this game is awkward. Like, oh no. Oracle just got kidnapped. But then you can have Batman go hunt down trophies for 1 hour
