Q: What server am I playing Arma games on, who are these people, and can you join?
A: It's the private server for my community, Shack Tactical. As of 2014 we've been around for eight years, and I wouldn't trade it for anything - we have a fantastic memberbase and it makes for amazing gameplay in Arma and elsewhere. You can read more about us here: www.shacktac.com
Q: What mods does ShackTac use in Arma?
A: I keep a list of them here: dslyecxi.com/sh...
Q: Does ShackTac play mostly coop or mostly PvP/adversarial in Arma?
A: We do a mix of about 70% adversarial and 30% coop - both offer unique experiences and are a blast to play.
Q: How long have you been playing the Arma series?
A: I've been here from the start, with my Operation Flashpoint experience beginning with the demo's release in 2001. I went into the US Marine Corps shortly after (no relation!) and in 2004 I started playing OFP in multiplayer. 2006 saw me found ShackTac, which started in OFP and then transitioned through Arma 1, Arma 2, and finally, Arma 3. I hope to continue this for a long time into the future, as well as share the ride with viewers like you, as corny as that sounds!
Q: What system am I filming all of my Arma and VBS footage on?
A: dslyecxi.com/ab...
If you want to know more about who I am:

Make sure to read my channel FAQ, it answers various questions and sets some expectations of behavior:

Q: I have a question about your channel or content that I haven't seen answered elsewhere - what's the best way to ask it?
A: I maintain a blog where I've answered hundreds of different questions relating to ShackTac, Arma, etc - you can find that here:
blog.dslyecxi.com
I also answer questions in my comments routinely, as I enjoy that aspect of things. If I don't answer, please don't take it personally - there's a lot going on and I can't always get to everything. My channel followers do a good job of answering the more common questions, too, and I thank them for that!

Thanks Dslyecxi, I'm very happy to see this video. I've been quite frustrated in the past playing with less organized players, telling them we're going to "bound forward" or "break contact" without them really understanding what that means.

Most players don't understand real life concepts of modern warfare, and they play games to live out a fantasy of what they see in the movies. I'd be surprised if even a minority of players in ARMA really understand such things. Stuff like this is good to know, but I wouldn't count on the other folks in a server playing a pick-up game to "get it"... me and my friends often exploit that to our advantage :)

I would love to see more of how you organize and move your squads infantry style! I wanna see it in "Kavala" as urban CQC first person is my favorite. I could never be in the Military, but I like to play Arma seriously. So hearing all of the vernacular, seeing how you call things out, and get people moving...is so immensely helpful for someone like me. I appreciate the time you put into all of your vids, If I could be a Patreon I would. I love Arma, I love your Videos, keep it up man.

4:58 I've watched this video a lot of times before, but I just now caught this part where you say it's very important for the moving team to watch their flanks!! This was something that had always been on my mind, and I mean for a loooong time, that when moving forward with a static point-source cover team they could not POSSIBLY "cover" or "save" you when moving if there were enemies that appeared hard on your sides or something in that manner because they could just as well be in cover from the covering team, lel. I heard also earlier in the video that "everybody needs to understand the GEOMETRY of the bound" which I think right here is really where you touch upon that. Would you say that if the moving team does take flanking fire that they should most likely then get cover and return fire for the former covering team to then go, flank? o.O I love this stuff Thank you so much for these videos

***** I mean RL tactics won't work 90% of the time in video games. That even goes for Arma series. Still you will often see players trying to be tacticool and all that without taking the reality of video game mechanics into account.
@EnDSchultz1

***** Might occasionally. Without mods, the aimbot NPCs will entirely ignore suppression, and will gladly stand out in the open in order to cut down the advancing team before the covering one can drop them.

So if it's just a two man team, you apply the same basic principals? I'm assuming it's the same process for a tactical withdrawal, except obviously you run away from contact.
@barbdwyer22
@barbdwyer22 10 лет назад
Buddy team bounding works under the same basic principals, yes. Similar movements for displacement as well. Displacing has multiple ways to go about it depending on the situation, as well.
@BulliezInc
@BulliezInc 10 лет назад
It's just called "break contact" it's a battle drill and when doing so yes you use the same basic idea but move backwards or backwards to the flanks . Use smoke or cover for help when bounding back .

One of my biggest questions in all this, is, how the hell did those guys drop to their sides and open fire so quickly when they got shot at? I know how to get into that position but it involves going prone and then doing it, whereas they just dropped from the standing position to the sideward laying down position.
@anter176
@anter176 10 лет назад
I think to do that you do the side stepy thingy the go prone, so what you said you did but in the reversed order.

I don't know if you already plan on this,but the most common mistake I see in fps games is players silloeting themselves on hills and buildings.
@tenchimuyo69
@tenchimuyo69 5 лет назад
I am suddenly having bad memories of Arma 2's AI, which would default its squad based movement to this whenever it had been engaged in combat. Even after combat ends, it continues to move this way indefinitely by default unless specifically scripted not to, which is kind of ass.

@anothermoth
@anothermoth 10 лет назад
Many years ago when i was a cadet, we used 'pepper potting' specifically for versions of this where the moving elements are single people. Sometimes it would be just the buddy team version, and sometimes it would be a larger unit moving as a blob: each individual would advance until they had fresh ground to cover, then wait as others moved up past them, and advance again when they're at the back of the blob, all on their own initiative. It was used where you might expect single enemies popping up at close range, like checking a mostly wiped-out enemy position. The larger, more synchronised versions were just called ' attacks', e.g. a 'section attack' where fire teams are the elements, a 'platoon attack' where sections are the elements. We'd bound towards the enemy then charge the last bit as one. I remember a lot of shouting of 'alpha section prepare to move', 'alpha section move'... and shouting 'bang!' a lot because we'd only been issued 5 blanks for the whole night...

Join a clan or group that specializes in a game type favorable to you. Such as Shacktac. Apply for that group, and learn to do things as they do. Then just sit back and follow the events and play when they play. Actually, this is a good method to use on any online game that lacks players. Just find a group where everyone plays a certain type of game at certain times when everyone is available to play at once.
