I already did 5yrs active duty,currently finishing off the next 3yrs in the reserves. To each their own but once im done, im done for good. But for someone who enjoys it or this steady check n benefits can help someone get out of a bad situation no shame. Do what you gotta do.

Cool, man. One thing that needs to be addressed as far as the aviation branch goes is the fact that we have what's known as AFTPs is in the Guard/Reserve. It stands for "Additional Flight Training Period" You can sign up for them during the week and go fly on a day outide of drill. You log hours, get paid, and still get to hang out with your friends. But you have to be a Crew Chief. Not saying that maintenance Co. wouldn't let you come in, you just don't fly.

I ship out October 11th, after Basic and AIT It will take me a while until I get my paramedic job in the civilian side. That’s why I’m interested in AGR.

When I was in, the AGR guys had an issue with promotions after E5. I never knew if it was point requirements but our unit 42B's needed well over 700 points. Before the board I think I had only a tick over 450, so I feel bad for those who are studs but can't grab an E6 slot.
So far I’ve gone e4 through e7 with no issues. Points and promotion boards vary on one’s performance and work ethic. The individual makes or breaks their own career. While it shouldn't matter, I had a letter of recommendation from our SGM in my promotion packet. I scored pretty high at the board even though I flubbed up the NCO Creed a tad bit. It really may be a "who you know" but not necessarily.

My husband is thinking of transferring from active duty army to army national guard. But he’s afraid if he doesn’t work full time he won’t be able to support us or that we won’t be able to “survive outside active duty”. He’s currently a Staff Sergeant 13B . Any tips or advice? Have him watch this video. Recruiting is always hiring. Most states are good to work for if you’re successful and put in the work. My son is 10 years old and I'm about to enlist for the Army Reserve. Can I put my son as a dependent even if I pay child support? Would it affect him mentally not seeing me on a daily basis while I'm in bootcamp and AIT? Is it worth it at this stage of my life? Honest questions to anyone that can help please 🙏
Yes you can and you will add him as dependent and enroll him in the DEERS. As far as you, is it worth it? Depends on how old you are. If you are 30 or younger, it will be worth it. Yes you will be gone for about six months for boot camp and AIT. Overall, it will be good for you and your son.
Yes to all your questions. You cannot control what will affect your child as you subject yourself to the control of others. You will learn to handle your issues as they come up. They’ll straighten you up or screw you up. That depends on how you handle yourself. Either way it’ll be a good experience for you. Never stop learning.
It’s only worth it if you think it is and I will always say 99% of the time that it’s worth it. You’ll have to list your son due to the fact you’re paying child support and if not married, you’ll be required to obtain a Family Care Plan because you’re a Single Parent. At this point I’m sure your recruiter has informed you of this. Being 10yro im sure your son will be fine. My daughter was fine when I completed the Drill Sergeant Academy and she was 5yro at the time. How you handle it is how you talk to yourself and how you react and handle your emotions. @Team_Swartz I’m currently in the Army ROTC and love it!!! I want start in the guard and was hoping to secure a full time position after I graduate. With my MOS being hopefully Finance or Supply Chain. Any additional advice for this path? For a full time NG, It seems like AGR is very selective
Officers don’t get MOS’s. They branch into a specific field and for your case, you’re interested in Finance Corps or Supply Corps. Full time jobs within the Guard/Reserve as officers are even more limited compared to the enlisted ranks. Good luck in everything you do! Hello Mr Swartz, Im in the process now and just passed my physical and medical examinations at meps. I also scored a 70 on the asvab, with a 110 gt score. I wanted to go army active duty but i’ve got too much on my plate and have since been leaning towards the reserves. The main problem for me is im not interested in anything outside of combat MOS, i prefer 11B but will be content with any combat position at this point, which isnt offered in the reserves. So my question to you is can i be a 11b in the national guard with part time duties similar to the reserves i.e., can i meet once a month like the reserves?

Ok quick questions. I was released under a 5-17 Re-3 I do need a medical waiver for my eyesight always have however I was released for Anxiety and ptsd however I have not had a Dr appointment or episode in over 7 years. Nor do I take meds. Do you think I can re join
Not sure but if you get updated evaluations/tests and an all clear letter from those specialists it’s possible you can complete a medical exam and hopefully recommended for a waiver. Age waiver at or above 35yro is easy but you have no choice. If you want to serve, everyone completes BCT/AIT, and deployments in the future to include state missions if you go guard. I don’t believe you can or able to do guard based on your requirement… Good luck in your decision making process!

Search n Rescue is for specific people trained in it. 19D is a good MOS but understand that for state activations/missions are 99% not MOS(job) specific. I'm currently active duty and there is a possibility I will be getting out at 12 years. What is the possibility of transitioning into an AGR position in the guard right after ETS from Active duty?
You can apply for AGR positions within the state you’re transitioning to but you’ll have to understand, you have to join first part time and then drop your AGR Packet. I recruited a Reserve Soldier who at the time was actively serving as an instructor for deploying units and she interviewed for Recruiting. I contracted her into the Guard and then because she was approved for the AGR Recruiting position, shortly thereafter dropped her AGR packet. Within 30-45 days she began working. It’s a better quality of life being AGR in the Guard compared to regular active duty. No CQ/Staff Duty BS, etc… Do your job and that’s it. If you’re successful you’re in charge of your schedule and it’s pretty flexible. I think it’s worth checking out. Try and talk to recruiters in the area for the vibe/culture. If it’s in GA I’d say he’ll no lol. They going through some crazy toxic stuff at the moment… don’t touch that state with a 10ft poll.
