Main portion of this video is removing the center diff and replacing the diff oil with 20 million weight. I also changed from the stock 17t pinion to a 22t pinion. Major improvement.
Great video and thanks for sharing. 👍🏻👍🏻 She is a BEAST💪🏻💪🏻🔥🔥 I ❤️ MY Kraton 8S And I think you said “GUYS” like a couple of thousand times. 🤣 Great vide
the only way to send more power to the FRONT would be to hold the rear wheels from spinning and the gear ratio INSIDE of the center diff will spin the front wheels almost twice as fast causing balloon. The same thing will happen with the REAR wheels if you hold the front wheels from spinning. If you were to LOCK the center diff, NEITHER front nor rear will get "more" power... they infact will get "EQUAL" amount of power. The reason thicker grease is suggested for the center diff is because when a vehicle accelerates "forward", all the weight is transferred to the "rear" of the vehicle. This causes the front of the car to lift up allowing the front wheels to loose traction and spin free. The funny thing about a diff is that it DOES NOT sent power to the wheels with the most traction! In turn, what a diff DOES DO is send power to the wheels with the "least" traction! CRAZY RIGHT! So now that we understand how a diff (differential) works, how do we fix the problem? There are TWO solutions.... OPTION #1 lock the diff so that equal power is sent to all wheels at all times NO MATTER WHAT all wheels will get 100% power under ANY condition but it is NOT RECOMMENDED unless you understand the consequences so that you can avoid and try to prevent them. OPTION #2...... Do what Jason did and use THICK GREASE. This is the "equivalent" of (partially) locking the diff because the inner spider gears are still allowed "some movement" but its ability to fully behave as a diff is restricted by 50% because of the resistance of the thicker grease. This feature is like a safety net in the event that your vehicles moving parts are under A LOT of stress, the diff will be allowed to transfer some of that power to the wheels with the least traction allowing your motor to continue to spin free and not burn up or over heat. Im sure this answered a lot of ppl's questions and thank you Jason for an inside look on the Kraton rc.
Awesome Jason just subbed you man great video👍 shame it broke on you at end I just got k8 few days ago absolutely love it im huge arrma fan but that lock tight they defo need to calm down on, great explanation at end on why your doing heavy diff oil honestly one most enjoyable vids I've watched it a long time on maintance 👍
Great vid! Bud, I share your pain with the Kraton 8 Loc-Tite! Crazy over use of red (!!!) Loc-Tite. I've used the heat gun or apply a soldering iron to the offending bolt. Madness, Arrma need to get on top of build quality control. But, all worth it (?!) for an awesome truck. I run a 21 pinion in UK conditions and get great run times (twin 7600mAh) and motor/ESC run super cool. I wanted offload punch and reasonable speed over hard terrain. Gonna upgrade the diff oil and try a 23. Thinking that actually speccing true 1million (or 2) fluid might be pretty good. Stock fluid looks junk. Also I'm running a Spektrum 9020 servo - great improvement.
Is it better to thicken the front diff fluid as well maybe 50k? To keep the tires from ballooning? What thickness front diff fluid do you recommend for the Kraton 8s exb front diff? Thanks great vid!
Cool vid, iv already done the mods but with a 23t still getting 16+ min run times with no heat issues😀 what did you hit ? Iv soaked all my plastics with gt80 no breaks up to now, 🤞
Is the kraton 8s that different than the outcast 8s? I got the outcast 8s exb and I had to put a 39t pinion with a 39spur for it to be enjoyable. I couldn’t imagine only having 22t
What’s up @Jason Perrin RC I’m building my Arrma Kraton 8s Exb. I have stock electronics for now just wanted to know what is the best gearing for the Kraton EXB 8s. Thanks in advance. I totally missed this video!?
Good video ! I have to say all i see is people making upgrades and switching parts on cratons ? And than run them and break something!! I have the Maxx all i did was the wide kit thats it ! And i bash the shit out of it !!! And maybe im lucky but the Maxx takes the beating and keeps on truckin..... got to love the Maxx !
I see a lot of guys packing silicone ear plugs into the center diff. Seems to be about the same consistency, maybe a little thicker, but definitely cheaper. 👍
Great vid, i love your vids but i was wondering, is it a Canadian thing to use the term "guys", every other word in your sentences 😆 But seriously, i cant wait to see you give the 8s a good BASH!
I just put a 25 tooth in with stock diff fluid and just upped the burst and it is a monster now I can’t wait to do the diff fluid I’m just worried about run time
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs Hmmm... I read it on the Arrma forum, a couple days ago. Titled "surprised when I opened my new 8s today" with a photo of a manual addendum. I'm not sure if links are welcome here but: www.arrmaforum.com/threads/surprised-when-i-opened-my-new-8s-today.21437/
Hey Jason, awesome video thank you for it. I just broke my control arm also, any chance you live in Edmonton and have a spare to sell? I seen the Great Hobbies sticker 🙏
I dont appreciate arrma puts too much thread lock because if you heat it up, i concern the bearings could get hurt as well , wish i am just over worried .
No. From what I read only the newest 1.5 versions have 20 mil. I got mine from the first batch and they still had 1 mil in them. There should be a piece of paper indicating 20 mil in the box of the ones with 20 mil.
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs Ah OK. I just got mine yesterday 🤔. I'll see how it runs with the punch 5 settings today. I also have the 23t pinion coming. Thanks.
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs Just tried it. This truck is fun! I did put the punch to 5 and breaking to 50%. It doesn't feel slow for me and the stock electronics seem to be pretty good enough for my liking. I'll just put the 23t pinion in there. It can do a wheelie from a dead start. I'm fine with that. I was treating it nice, but then I went to backflip it off the chain link fence at work like I do with the xmaxx. Nailed it three times and the rear bumper just go scratched because it was on concrete. Not a lot of people would do that to their $900 truck on the first run 😂👍.
