I took the ARRMA Typhon out for a quick speed test and bash. The box states that it can do 30mph with optional gearing (17T is my guess based on option parts listed on the website), so that set my expectations lower than that. The good thing with the Mega V3 RCs is that they are now equipped to handle an upgrade to brushless power. I'll test it for you on 17T before I do the swap to brushless. I bought a $100 Hobbywing system with 60a ESC and 3300kv motor to install and do more tests. I chose that because it puts it close to the price of buying a brushless version outright. So you can start with a mega and upgrade to brushless later without really any negative consequences.

For a brushed r.c. it does a great job! My mega granite runs great on 2s! Some people can't tell that it's brushed because it runs very fast ! But sometimes you just don't need a lot of power to bash and have fun! 👍👍😎👽🤙

There are other diffetences between the Mega anf BLX that make the BLX the overall better deal... if you have the extra $100. The Mega would still be fun, and the speed isn't much of an issue for bashing offroad, sspecially for kids or your first RC.

The new series i just bought is exactley the same since i just changed the 32p spur and put set ajustable links i had lying around. And 10000% same and i just made it 6s. For 180 cheaper than 6s. The mega now new one is best 1 8th scale bargain of the year i got a 6s for almost 200 somthing cheaper than the 6s lmfao love it and mines cheaper and 17 mph faster than a factory 6s. Get. The. Brushed. Version its now bout eqivilant to 3s for 40$ lmfao

I bought a typhon mega last month put a cheep 4s brushless system in and it's hitting 63mph . It's got more in it but my bottle hasn't. If you brushless it fit the axle support from the blx 3s typhon . I look forward to seeing where you go with your car ✌️✌️

Very enjoyable vid. I have an old Turnigy Trackstar 120 esc and 1900kv motor I used in a Ofna LXe1 and was wondering if any of you think I could repurpose it into my Mega? Definitely going to stay on 2 or 3s. This would be in the Typhon Mega V3.

@@CCxRC Cool did they use lighter shock oil on these new ones? The old ones had way to thick of oil in the shocks I put lighter weight in my granite 4x4 and it worked so much better you could actually see the suspension moving over the rough stuff unlike when it had the stock oil it bounced over a lot of the imperfections on the grounds surface.

Thanks Tim! I try to plan ahead when I can. We lose power out here quite a bit, so I just plan on it when a big storm comes through. I was editing the unboxing when the storm started and I decided to get some batteries charged for a little fun while the power was out :)

You are supposed to. It makes sure you don’t ruin you LiPo by running it’s voltage too low.

Im new to the rc gang. I don’t know anything about electric or gas cars. I saw this exact rc car at my local hobby store. I got a few questions. As far as I know brushless engine is faster? This car is brushed right? Can you swap to brushless for more speed? And keep hearing about Lipo battery. Some explain pls!!!!!

Out of the BAX it's definitely entry level. What they've done to prep it for upgrading is what is really cool. They know people took the last batch and upgraded them over time...but it required a lot of upgrades. They've already done most of it for us.

My son and I put a BIG Rock 32kv motor in it and swapped out the esu with the BIG Rocks also and got this car that started brushed and now lipo and goes 107mph

I've got a Hobbywing Max10 60amp ESC with 3300kv brushless motor waiting to go in. My 4s is amazing and I'm not touching it for this rig

There won't be much difference. It uses a 7 cell NiMH at 8.4v versus 2s lipo at 7.4v. the NiMH drop off will make them very similar. If you were originally running a standard 7.2v 6 cell NiMH you would definitely notice a bigger difference.

Fully charged 2S is 8.4V. 4.20 in each cell. So they are similar, but the nimh drops of power where the LiPo stays consistent until LiPo cutoff.

It was 100%. I forgot to change to LiPo mode, but that is for cutoff so you don’t overstrain the battery...which I didn’t do. It should be switched though.

Aren’t you suppose to switch from Nimh to lipo on the ESC? Those back jumpers? I own this car and I drove it on my exact same 2s Smart battery and it shortly stopped working until I switched it to Lipo power, idk I’m only asking because that didn’t look faster and when I do my speed runs I usually get 3 mph faster and with a 21t pinion I’m getting speeds of 28, so it really helps

You are supposed to. But it’s mainly so that it will shutoff before you over discharge your LiPo. Theoretically they both are similar voltage and should be pretty similar speeds.

Same speed. The Nimh was fresh as well so both have the same voltage. So It's usually pretty close.

Not much of a difference they are both 7.2 volt or was it a 8.4 volt an the 2s is 7.2 Volts maybe 7.8 at peak charge

Both are 8.4v. You get 4.20 per cell in the LiPo. Just more consistent power with the lipo

Now I hear alot of even top end crawlers still use brushed motors. Better control at low speed or something. I think based on inexperience that that sort of thing could come in prett handy for the more technical bashing. Are the gains worth entierly disregarding brushed motors. My only experience in brushless is in ariel rc. So I do understand the general more powerful durable and way better battery life. I am just a bit unclear on the finer points and if anything that moves beyond a crawl is just better off brushless?

RC Odyssey well I was talking about bashers. I admit, all my crawlers have brushed motors. But there’s no brushed basher that I would prefer over brushless. I’m on the throttle for the majority of the time when bashing. And when I’m crawling I’m modulating more, taking it easy on the throttle. Therefore, brushless motors are appropriate for crawling. But for speed, brushed motors heat up too quickly and aren’t as fast as brushless.

Yeah that makes sense. I was thinking something like the "bashing(I think that term might be to vague personally)" like sol rc does. Small ramps slow speeds but super technical. Lets say if what happy happy joy joy emaxx is a dirt bike then sol rc would be a trials bike!? I dunno just curious... should probably just ask him. Thanks

That huge tree leans really bad. We've had quotes to remove it and they are all over $6k because of the size. We'd hate for a storm to put it on our neighbors house. WOuldn't hit us because of the lean...
