Let's take a look at the update Arrma has done to the Granite Grom and Typhon Grom mini Rc Bashers. Can they handle bashing 3s power and big upgraded tires? What will break first? Let's find out!
@@DoRC I grabbed a pair lol the center diff for the 4s Arrmas just got in stock and the lights for the big rock are still in back order you never know with Arrma thanks for the tip
@@L2theWcarscoffeelife very true. Yeah the center differentials sold out not long after I made my video on them. I think I might have had something to do with that at least.
I agree with you 100% on the groms being the best mini cars. The slop in the steering and suspension on the rc’s such as mjx, wltoys and hbx are a huge no go for me. I don’t care how many features they have or how much faster they are.
This is my opinion as well. Some of them are kind of close but for me, especially constantly working on these things, I've come to appreciate the groms more and more.
I try to reply to every single comment though unfortunately the comment notification system isn't the best so sometimes I miss follow-up comments. You guys are the reason for this channel so keep them coming :-)
Yessir. So in mine I had to get the difs after the third day. So I went ahead and got stronger axles, dog bones… whatever u wanna call em. And I run a 3s 2838-5300 kv. Also had to retro fit a wheelie bar off of a hyper go buggy. Now I want one of those little plastic things u showed to save the bed. All and all it’s a great rig. I can’t wait to see what the next grom is.
I agree with you that the arrmas are so much better to work on. I also have a Redcat volcano 16 (AKA the hbx 16889) and I really like it but the hardware and overall engineering is lacking. My next might be an associated reflex 14. Im really starting to dig these little rc's.
I have a set on warranty on the way. I kept missing the full metal versions. I'm definitely getting more groms now , I have a cool trick I want to try, but I need more groms first.
Just contact horizon let them know what happened and especially since they are aware of the issue they will almost certainly send you a set of updated ones under warranty.
@DoRC gotta be honest..a little ticked that my local rc shop where I buy everything hasn't informed of that info and has me waiting for them to receive diffs to sell to me. I've called em every other day waiting. 🤬 So thank you again for the info. I'm relatively new in the hobby and trying to navigate this sea of information
Yeah 3S with those big tires is just way too much wheel speed and it is essentially uncontrollable. I run on 2S normally and it's really fun. 3S was just to try and break it
imo if you stick with 2s the drivetrain should be fine with the updated diffs. my redcap volcano 16 never failed with its stock front drive but those are universal joints. also plastic diffs but they never gave with a 2440 motor.
I think that's true. I ran a couple of hard packs on 3S and it held up fine. It really only died when I literally just held the throttle down until something broke.
Oh ya you should look into the associated reflex B & do some vids on that, I'm buying one this weekend. I almost commented "dude those DIFFS aren't the good ones" lol,you got it with the metal drive cups! So nice to see someone run these in the dirt! Every vid I've seen they run asphalt & do speed runs,LAME! DIRTS FOR RACING, ASPHALT S FOR GETTING THERE LMAO!
Straight from Arrma. If you look at the comments in the announcement on their Facebook page someone asked about it and they said that it would be included in all future batches.
I talk about it in the video but these are the stock differentials but with steel spider gears inside and possibly updated material on the output cups because they seem stronger. 311193 are sealed all steel differentials.
Yeah it's pretty uncontrollable on 3S. I normally run this setup on 2S which is a lot of fun but I wanted to make sure I broke something so 3S it was :-)
Kind of. Officially the 2.5 thing doesn't exist for the K4 either. That's actually something I came up with when I announced the updates they were doing to it. This is similar though a bit more subtle. The differential was definitely an issue and it's awesome that they changed it but it's not an official point release or anything like that.
@GeddyRC Yeah I don't think they're going to announce it on the product page. There's a post on their Facebook page about it though. In the comments they say the V2 differentials will be included in all future production batches
@@DoRC ah, damn that’s rough! I bought two of them a few weeks ago lol. Hey at least going forward folks can save $45. That’s RC for ya, early adopters always pay for the kinks before they get worked out 🤣
@GeddyRC Yeah it is nice to see that they're addressing it though. I imagine if you have any problems they'll send you the updated replacement under warranty.
Hbx 16889pro still ahead of this.. very easy to work on too, fully upgraded and indestructible. On can say anything about arrma or other big brand, but the small basher market is already at his peak with hbx and mjx, unbeatable
Maybe. The 16889 pro isn't terrible to work on but it's certainly not as easy as this is. Parts also depend on where you live. Over here it's really easy to get parts and upgrades for this but not quite as easy for something like the HBX. This is also a more precise machine and at least in my experience handles higher power better. Ultimately though it just depends on what you're looking for. The 16889 pro is definitely a cool car.
I used to love my h14bm but those hex screws... it's the only car I absolutely dread working on. Maybe like half of them will come out without stripping. I'm afraid to drive it hard because it's such a pain in the ass to fix.
Agreed. Over 60 packs on my 18859A and 0 parts broken. Fully upgraded out of the box. $104 and identical wheelbase to the Granite Grom. I don't have the 16889 though, but I've heard it's by far one of the best
@Krapper515 That's awesome though I will say if you have 60 packs through anything and haven't had any breakages you probably aren't bashing very hard. I've probably owned a couple of hundred different RC cars over the years and I've never had a single one I didn't break something on.
Cant put full metal or the oil filled ones... they just keep shooting themselves in the foot just being cheap. Get rid of the plastic diff cups and diff interna already. I called it at launch that the diff will need a 50$ upgrade because of the the diff cups. They will strip like the granite voltage does and the internal gears will fail. What do you know both failed
Well to be fair on stock power they both hold up reasonably well. The new differentials seem to hold up well to even pretty ridiculous power like you saw since they've been updated. I would imagine if they went with the upgraded differentials they'd have to increase the price which people would be upset about too.
Unfortunately I'm not sure you will. They're not doing an official new version number for this update so until you actually take it apart I don't think they'll be any way to know. Buying directly from horizon will be your best bet as they'll have the freshest stock but unfortunately that's the best advice I can give
@DoRC I ordered 2 replacements from the US, they arrived in January but the delivery driver dropped them at the wrong address and then they actually got stolen out of the mail box😭 Then I got onto my mate in Canada to order me 2 as Arrma and Horizon only post to US and Canada, he ordered 2 upgraded diffs when in stock a while back, they are on their way to him now then HOPEFULLY they make it to me in Australia and not get stolen🤞
This is the updated version of the stock differential which still has the plastic side gears and plastic output cups. 31193 has all steel internal gears as well as steel output cups and is fluid filled.
