I remember seeing this video and subscribing to her out of support because I could relate to her social struggles a lot. I admittedly don't watch many of her streams nowadays (not because I don't like her current content, just have gotten busy with my life) but I checked in and am glad to she she's doing so well since this clip was released! She's grown a lot not just in terms of her sub count, but her courage and personality as well. I am genuinely happy for her and hope that only more success comes her way.

Man, I hate how relatable this is. This brings back memories of the day. I was always that one guy. You know, sits alone at lunch, the last one chosen for team-oriented sports at p.e., popular target of the school bullies, no friends, etc. This even continued though my college years. It sucked. All attempts at socializing were failures. I was ignored by those who didn't care, and those who did only did so to kick me down to bolster their overinflated ego. One day I just went "screw y'all". Now I'm a boneified loner who enjoys all the solitude I can have. It's a pity that most people I've interacted with just downright suck, but I've dealt with it too much to care anymore. Those of you who have friends, cherish them. Don't take them for granted. You truly have something special with them.

I understand that situation very much. It happened a lot to me as well. You joined in to the otaku bunch, you can't really blend in because you're "not otaku enough". Then you go to the normies, same thing happened. And to make things worse, they'd go to you because they realized you're being quiet or being distant to them and they go to you out of concern and basically trying not to make you feel left out of the loop. But that very act is the part where it stings the most. Maybe next time, don't get her involved with everyone when they're in the middle of "frenzy" work. Whoever was that messenger have a bad timing to do it. The intention is good, but the situation is like leaving a child to a group of grown-ups hanging out and they barely paid attention to the child.

I stumbled upon this clip on January 2020 and this clip is what makes me started to fall into the vtuber hole, not to mention it's my first time experiencing a real, non-scripted, vtuber (not counting kizuna ai, mirai akari, and others). I feel like i can relate to ars so much (being an introvert and all) so i watch more clips of her and then youtube eventually start doing their thing and recommended another vtuber. Basically because of this clip, i knew about nijisanji, i knew about hololive, i knew about voms, a lot of indie vtuber and I'm thankful for that. And it makes 2020 so much better than it should be. This hurts to watch. :( I feel so sorry for her but at least she tried. It does help to take baby steps with a good group of people. Personally I'm okay at starting and holding conversations but it helps that my IRL friends are literally all just introverts... Though when it's outside that circle of friends, my natural shyness combined with social anxiety destroys me on the inside, lmao. The social awkwardness is just a cherry on top.

I used to be a socially awkward guy that closed myself to the point that I don't have a single "friend" all the way from elementary school to middle school. When I thought this is my fate and my life was over, I met a friend, a person that I can called "a friend". He was the type of person who (I don't know the words for it) literally opposite to me, he talks alot and easy to get along with. He helped me get out of my socially awkwardness, introduce me to more people that surprisingly has the same hobby as I am. Managed to live to this days all thanks to him

She produced that emotion of me wanting to protect her like i would my own little sisters. I hope she finds her happiness.

For those not in the know, this is referred to in Japanese as コミュ障 (pronounced 'commu-shou'): it can be directly translated as 'communication problems' and is used to describe anyone who has problems socialising for whatever reason. I also saw the term 陰キャ ('inkya') being used in the comments, but I don't like that term: it means a negative or dark personality, which isn't necessarily true for those with social anxiety - add to that the phrase has bad connotations in Jappers, so one should use it carefully. As for Ars Almal, I wouldn't say she has a negative personality - although she does tend to prefer her own company and do things at her own pace, she can get along quite well with people on a one-to-one basis once she gets used to them. If this video has left you feeling down, I would suggest you go look for some videos of Ars Almal's collab streams with Ex Albio with whom she became good friends: just copy and paste the following line of Japanese characters into the search bar (or use the hashtag #エビマル) and you'll find some good ones to watch.
