I don’t understand the thinking - as some commenters are suggesting - of putting Timber in midfield. Playing 6 is a highly specialist position. England put Trent in there in the Euros and it was a disaster. Even Declan Rice - despite all his strengths - has areas of his game he can improve on in the 6 role. We signed Timber based on his profile as a full back. We should focus on giving him every chance to succeed there rather than getting him in somewhere else.

Regarding Timbers playing time, Arteta has shown us any player who performs will get their chance at some point to get a good run of games. Every single player pretty much so grab it when you do!!
Hello charles, Hope you get to see this, I have been thinking, if we really need a left CM i do think we have one of the best technically gifted Left footed players in zinny. with calafiori, timber, tomi and kiwior he is like the last choice at left back. do you think we might see him being tried in that role while in the USA.
If we don't get the signings that the club want in this window, this might be the year for a few of the young players to step up. Other teams have done well by giving the young players the chance. MA needs to make this the season he does good rotation, limiting injuries and tiredness to the starting eleven, and the young players can help with this by coming on at 70-75 minutes. Those going on the pre-season tour could be an indication of what's to come.
Sorry about your son's injury, glad it wasn't a bad injury. There will always be people who 'expect' things from you, don't be under pressure ever. You are putting out great content consistently, and I am grateful for it.
Charles I know we don’t need wholesale changes but we really must add players who can play in first team and add quality, I think Merrino would be ideal and with the Italian plus a forward/wide man. Hopefully we can get a few quid in as well. Bit worried we’ll get stuck with Ramsdale and Viera though.
Hey Charles Hope your son is doing fine! With Timber: I think he‘ll start the pre season games as RCB down to the fact, that Saliba, Gabriel and Tomiyasu aren‘t on the tour. At the begining of the season he probably will be the LB, because Tomi is injured and Calafiori will be eased in. His flexibility will be so important for us this season! Have a nice day Charles!
One defender,one midfielders and striker who are world class will add to the cream we already have. Depth is lacking in our squad. Nketia can not deliver us scores needed. Left back is another challenge we have. Calafiori is needed so that there be a lot of competition.
You make a good point about physicality and I can't believe more people aren't talking about it in the case of Chido - he looks like a year 12 playing against year 8 and gives him a massive advantage that imo he probably wouldn't score as many goals without.
Hi Charles..regarding Timbers position in the side/squad this coming season, I think he has all the attributes to be moulded into our long term fix for the number 6 holding midfielder. He could be phenomenal in this role. He reminds me of a tougher, quicker Jorginho. With Jorgi and Partey coming to the end of their careers, does it not make sense to have a look at Timber in this role long term ?
I love Benni but if we get Calafiori over the line, I see our 1st choice back 4 as Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori. The good thing is that we will have a strong back 6 who can largely all play multiple positions across the back & maybe even as a 6 if necessary.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Calafiori might be used like Xhakha in that holding role so rice can push up. Most likely left back, but he seems like a player who could grow there, especially considering the defensive players we already have
Do you think there’s anything going on in the background with either Bruno G or Isak? Both players seem to have gone very quiet recently with moves away in comparison to a month ago. Personally both fit the bill for me and would love to see either of them at AFC… unsure how Jorginho would feel mind you
Hi Charles, it looks like Calafiori is set to play left back. However, if you look at his history, he was pretty average playing at left back (Roma -> Genoa -> Basel) and it wasn't until he joined Bologna and played at centre back that he started to shine. Would playing him at left back be a good idea? Will he disappoint playing out of position similar to Havertz when he started?
Hi Charles, I think the signing of Merino would solidify Rice as a DM, I think this would also open up a lot of scenarios for the midfield too as the game states would require. I'm also of the opinion that Kiwior stays, there would be a lot more games to play this season and our centre backs would definitely need the rotation, seeing as Tomiyasu struggles to stay fit, we need the numbers, and it's not like Kiwior is a massive downgrade from Gabriel and LCB. It seems to me to be the biggest thing about young players - how will they cope physically. Pretty much all have loads of talent but almost impossible to tell who will best handle it physically (and mentally too actually).

Hi Charles. How much rope do you think Arteta has? Do we have to win some sort of silverware this year? Does Arteta keep his job if we don't break through and win the PL in the next couple of seasons? What if we don't manage to win the PL and instead slip down from finishing 2nd to 3rd or 4th? What if we don't win any silverware in the next 2 or 3 seasons? What if Chelsea actually gets their act together, along with Tottenham, Liverpool and Man United too, and we end up finishing 5th or 6th? Does he continue to keep his job? Where do you think the line for him is in terms of PL finishes, lack of silverware and years? Don't get me wrong, I love him and think he's the perfect coach for our team and in NO WAY am I advocating sacking him for the foreseeable future. People still don't understand that team has to have players with 'natural goalscoring ability', but it doesn't have to be your striker 😂 we have 4 very good finishers who our striker give a platform for a final touch. Jesus has a future here at least 1 season to showcase does he still got the legs.
Charles do you think it's possible for us to bridge the gap with Man City without a marquee signing ? The lack of movement in the window is starting to worry me. For me we badly need a high calibre creative midfielder to replace Xhaka and play alongside Rice and Odergaard now Kai is our striker. We also need to bolster our attacking options, especially if Eddie and Reiss are off. What do you reckon? Panic stations yet or still a bit premature for that?
