This is just fantastic. I’m deep in the throes of finishing up a track that I’m attempting my first ‘real’ mix/master on, and I discovered/subbed both of your channels only a week ago in the endless search for transparent loudness. Both of you guys really stand out for the no BS, lack of ‘marketing’ feel and “let’s nerd out together and learn” vibe. It’s SO refreshing and appreciated, man. It can be lonely and overwhelming trying to learn all of this stuff on your own, especially when you’re in a place of doing it as a side passion with a curiosity about exploring it professionally. There’s this gnawing sense of not knowing what you don’t know, worrying that everything you’re doing is probably ‘wrong’, and having to push forward anyway. The hardcore nerdy deep dives you guys both do on your channels give off an infectious passion for your craft that gets me pumped about going further into the audio journey, even when I’m not yet able to fully grasp everything at the super granular level you go into. But more importantly both of your guys’ willingness to rethink your approaches and be open about mistakes is so valuable, not just for the gained knowledge but for the reassurance that it’s a never-ending learning process. That alone just creates a great sense of community that should unite and encourage people at all levels to keep going. Thank you both!

I'm also notoriously stubborn and a creature of habit, some of the mistakes I share on my channel took me a while to come around to accepting, discovering or facing! Thanks for watching alnog!

I have to watch this in parts. This morning I realized before I watch this again I need to take notes. I will have to start at the point of vocals and using Melodyne. This has to be save in watch again after I watch it in full. Thank you Vesper, Nicholas, and the team at Warp for making this possible.

At 27.00 when Nick is talking about how the presenter contextualises the information, making it clear that no one move is a fix all for all situations is exactly what you do Vesper. Always your words are chosen carefully and your information and knowledge is shared with great accuracy. Great video, thanks again.

@@warpacademy Hey Drew, thanks for the recommendations, I am currently using a pair of Sennheiser HD650's. Ill check those out for sure. Keep up the good work!
@warpacademy
@warpacademy Месяц назад
Right on. Those are good cans. I have the HD600s. Keep in mind that the low end of those rolls off really dramatically under 100 Hz though, making them difficult to properly hear sub. That's why I prefer planar magnetic designs by Audeze and Verum. The Verum 1s and the HD650s are even in the same price range. See if you can get a pair or at least listen to them. They punch way above their weight. Cheers!

Listening to the thoughts on Melodyne is their a science to know how much to eliminate on vocals are any other instrument? Thank you very much.
@warpacademy
@warpacademy Месяц назад
Hey Paula. Yeah Melodyne is a very interesting plugin. I love it. Super powerful. I would say there's more of an art than a science to knowing how to work with sibilance and plosives and breaths. It's a very subjective choice. For example, eliminating breaths entirely can make a performance sound unnatural and lack energy. If you suppress the sibilance too much, the vocal can sound dark and unintelligible, especially if it's in a song with bright hi hats and crashes.

@@warpacademy That was the answer I was looking for. My mind always, probably because its my era, go back to the 60s with Analog music. Are we finding better ways to make recording great and leave the natural sounds as in the past. Thank you very much
