I am wonderfully amazed at how well detailed your design portfolio is and it makes me have hope that I can achieve a greater understanding in Visual Communications and Graphic Design and become a better designer. I have this hope too because I'm a high school senior applying to UCLA and other colleges, and have done dual enrollment with DVC in ARTDM classes throughout my high school terms. Your video and portfolio helps me understand how strong I need my next works to be and improve my skills for the years to come.

Incredible work 😍 wow your attention to detail is inpecable. AC is also my dream school and I'm also looking to transfer from ny current art school ( I'm a GD sophomore) to AC hopefully next year so I need start working on my folio now! This video was very helpful and luckily I have GD projects already but this helped me visualize the quality they are looking for 💯

Hello, this is some amazing work!! I’m also a community college student in California planning to transfer as a graphic design major to ucla, art center, lcad, and so on. If possible, could you explain just briefly what are the main steps to develop portfolios? So far, I have many works done from different design classes, but I’m not sure about how to organize them as official portfolios.
Hi Legan! Thanks for asking. Since graphic design contains multiple categories, I suggest showing different types of projects and silk sets such as print(magazine, poster, etc), motion design, packaging design, UI design, and so on. I'm sure you have work samples from different categories, so you can categorize them in your portfolio. I hope it answers your question :)
@@christyhu Thank you for the helpful reply! Another question - how did you manage sizing for submitting these portfolios? I know there are size limits for submitting to UCLA, but I don't quite get how to. If you could answer this, it would be even more thankful of you!
@@biniwon Good question! It's tricky for UCLA because their limit is so constrained. What I did was creating smaller artboards and reorganized my projects in illustrator, removing many process images, and exporting in smaller file sizes (lower dpi). I did everything I could to fit them in and not exceed the size limit.

Hi Sarah, thank you for your question. Actually I used the same portfolio for DMA but I adjusted the layout and added another project to respond to the specific prompt.

Your work is amazing! so professional! I am planning to apply to Art Center, UCLA and UC Davis for the graphic design major. And I had created some designs on Canva and I wanted to know if it would be okay to put in my portfolio. I haven't used adobe at all, I know its my mistake but I have very less months to make my portfolio. I am creating more projects and trying to use adobe. Thank you for the inspiration btw!

I want to send my portfolio to get a scholarship in March so I'm currently working on it but I don't feel very confident about it cuz I never applied for a scholarship before

I will be applying for the scholarship 2 years later cuz I realized that I can't study animation and get the scholarship at the same time.

Hi thank you! I went to cc for two years and I did two internships. If you're in the bay area, I recommend checking out BRIDGEGOOD! If not, you can try to find a designer position in your school clubs or an internship position in your area. Good luck!

Apprantelt they only accept few pieces than Artcenter that I want to know which exact slides you showed to UCLA if you don't mind 😀
Thanks Jennifer! I submitted the same projects to UCLA but I revised my slides. As you said they accept fewer pieces, I combined my slides into one for each project. Hope it helps!

For the packaging prototype for your tea project how were you able to make physical copies of the packaging. Did you create it yourself and if so how did you create the design on the packaging?

Your portfolio is awesome! Im now preparing my portfolio for ArtCenter, and I have had some works done in class but don’t know if I should put them in the portfolio. I would like to know if I should create my own subjects like you did or I can submit the work from class. Also, when did you start to conceive these projects and make the portfolio? NO YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DRAW!! :))) Design is not about drawing. However, good sketching skills will help you communicate your ideas better to others.
