After 40 years of playing, I am nowhere near where this guy is. In my opinion he's the best there is. Everyone else is just a mere shadow. Keep all your shredders and sweep pickers. This guy has taste AND skill. Plus great singer and superb writer.
I could not agree more! James Taylor is my personal favorite on the acoustic guitar.. but, that's a completely different thing.. I personally cannot think of anyone as good as Monte... speed, taste, voice.. I remember I read an interview with him about 10 years ago. and when the interviewer asked him "why don't you play much electric?"... Monte said that he tends to play too fast/overplay on the electric.. I thought that was funny
He is incredible for sure. I love how he takes somebody's song and perfects it and performs it better than they did. Perfect example is Romeo and Juliet by Mark Knopfler where Monte wrote his own great intro and then also wrote an incredible solo at the end of the song.
