Yeah,the current starks is pretty weak ( physically) and doesn't have the savage nature of the north like most of the ancient starks

@@mohammadahmad3455i actually think its because of Ned’s upbringing. Brandon (Ned’s eldest brother) was noted to be hot blooded and wild, like a true northerner. Ned on the other hand grew up in the Eyrie, arguably the most noble and honorable culture wise. He also happens to marry a southerner in Catelyn Tully so culture wise both parents are no true northerners.

Totally agree with you. Ned's children are like that because of him. Ned was raised by Jon Arryn. His children do not have that northern harshness in them because of his influence in raising them. And also influence from Catelyn who is from riverrun and follows the faith

Ehhh not really. Alot of Cregan's sons and grandsons died fighting in battles. Don't get me wrong Ned and by extension, Robb should've been more ruthless like some of the other past Starks, but they never lost their warlord status. I think Rickard should've ingrained some Stark ruthlessness in Ned for he sent him there.

if Ned had acted like a true stark he would’ve been dead with his entire family. Brandon had an idea like that and he and Rickard ended up burnt to a crisp.

To be fair, they were doing their jobs as Wardens of the North. The Night's Watch had no idea that wildlings crossed the Wall. Artos nicknamed the Lord Commander as "Sleepy" and ordered the Night's Watch to bury all the men who was slain since they were late for the battle.

And we realize it's easier to act so well after you've done evil things to get power.

I really recommend getting the “World of Ice and Fire” book. It’s written like an encyclopedia rather than a novel, but it has a _ton_ of fascinating history from not only Westeros but the entire known world.

But apart from that, he sent his wife to call his banners and move them closer to the neck, arranged to get control of the city watch, sent envoys to Stannis in secret, and arranged to have his kids far away. It was unfortunate that Sansa told Cercei part of her father's plan , she was a kid after all and didn't really understand the significance of what she was talking about. He also didn't expect his wife would leave her mission and Kidnap Tyrion instead

@@OcarinaSapphr- I think Brandon was lord, even if only for a few seconds. And Lyanna was a princess, I believe.

Because writing lore and background stories is relatively easy as they have no consequence on the endgame. But writing the current books(IF they are even getting written anymore) is far more difficult as Martin has to eventually wrap up all the millions little storylines into one single ending. And I think that might be the reason that he may have given up on finishing the books because he has created so many different storylines with his characters that even he now doesn’t know how to finish it.

I agree- it's a bit unfair to be comparing ages past - until Torrhen & Cregan, the Northern lords had very little to do with areas outside of their homeland- with the occasional exception, like wars against the Ironborn, or the Vale- & Theon Stark's retaliatory campaign to Andalos. But the point of characters like Ned & Robb, is to reflect on those who remain. And it's intriguing to see the journeys of those still around; Jon, Sansa, Arya, Bran, & (though we haven't yet got much detail) Rickon - it's interesting to think about _why_ they're still alive, though- holding to honour against the dishonourable is a fool's game, & it's been the adaptability of the majority of the younger generation that has allowed them to survive...

I'm curious if the one nicknamed 'Moon King' was a little _touched_ , shall we say- or if he had a short reign (like a moon's turn), & if the king nicknamed 'Bridegroom' did something less than pleasant to earn it. Part of the difficulty is the timeline, that GRRM has indicated he will _not_ fully clear up (but like, how much further is he willing to go *before* that point?) And even after we move into the more known timeline of Wardens & Lords; Cregan's sons by his third wife spent a lot of their time fighting, but I'm not quite as clear on what made that period so martial (it was post-Dance)...
