It’s ironic how they had an ATWT reunion on the show that CBS replaced ATWT with. CBS and Procter & Gamble were wrong to let such an iconic series fade away how it did. I still miss it to this day.
You are soooo right! The show didn't deserve to end this way. It was by far the best daytime soap. I still can't believe that the bold & beautiful is still running.
YES......I agree! The segments were too short. I would love to know what the actors have been doing since the show ended. I really miss ATWT and GL. This brings back such wonderful memories.
At 83 yrs. old Elizabeth is as gorgeous as ever. The finest..most polished.. intelligent actress on TV. The beautiful combination of Davis..Crawford...Swanson.. .and Streep. plus a lot of Hubbard. How could you go wrong...one of her greatest fans. keep on truckin' , Liz
Julie decided to depart from The Talk at the start of season 9 when her husband Les, a casualty of the #metoo movement, got canned from his CEO job. Marissa Jaret Winokur, Holly Robinson Peete, and Leah Remini left after season 1, Aisha left after season 7, and Sara is leaving at the end of season 9. Leaving Sharon, Sheryl, Eve, and Carrie Anne. Looking at rest of CBS Daytime, The Price is Right just isn't the same without Bob Barker. I don't watch Let's Make a Deal. Recurring themes seen on Y&R over the years included Katherine-Jill catfights and Victor getting off the hook for his dirty deeds, and over on B&B was Stephanie-Sally-Brooke catfights. Like I've said, I believe ATWT was getting better when CBS canceled it, and I believe OLTL was also getting better when ABC canceled it. Miss seeing GL, AMC, and AW as well. Capitol, which B&B replaced, had great potential to be a long-running series.
LUCINDA WALSH!!! I could watch this woman EVERY single DAY! NOBODY could touch her acting! I would have loved to see her and ALEXIS CARRINGTON of Dynasty duel! My money would be on LUCINDA!!
Me, too! I inherited them from my mom. Some of my earliest memories are from the early 70’s of my Mom ironing my Dad’s shirts and watching these two soap operas. Then in the ‘80s my Dad would come home for lunch and give her grief about her show…but if he ever missed lunch, the first thing he would ask was, “What did Mr. Big do today?”
Tobey Starburst thats who got me started, my great grandmother. I miss hearibg her laugh, yell and fuss at tge tv when a character said or did something. Good memories
My mom was hooked on this show in the 80s, and got me hooked as well. Barbara was my absolute favorite character! She is so incredibly beautiful it’s beyond words! She simply hasn’t aged in 30+ years! Amazing!
Yes, She is truly one of the best characters in daytime history. I also enjoyed Mrs. Snyder. There really aren't any good characters, and by good, I mean quality good people. The shows are now filled with antiheroes and that is it. Nobody is genuinely a good human being.
Omg!! So Many fond memories of all these characters!! Watched it with my mother. So wonderful that have watched it with her. Haven’t seen it since, miss you Mom!!
Those ladies are absolutely great. I would love for As The World Turns to return. I think We are all missing out not having it and it shouldn't have been cancelled to begin with.
I was only a casual ATWT viewer but it seemed like ATWT, OLTL and AMC were cancelled rather hastily. As for Guiding Light It was a shell of it's former self and it needed to be put out of it's misery.
@@jacktheman2895 I'd agree. ATWT and OLTL were really getting better when they were canceled. CBS and ABC made a huge mistake of cancelling them. Many of us soap fans that grew up watching the soaps never thought they'd go away. Miss seeing AMC as well. It was no secret GL was in trouble in its last couple of years on the air. Part of me wishes CBS could've given GL a 6-month extension to resolve a few unresolved stories. If GL couldn't be saved, I'd suggest CBS bring back Capitol. Also miss seeing NBC soap AW, and ABC soap Loving.
@@jodynicholesdougherty5497 I believe AW was getting better near the end of its 35-year run. My wish would be to see Today shortened back to 2 hours, the 3rd and 4th hour merged into a new 1 hour morning talk show, and AW back on the air. I could see AMC and OLTL return as half-hour soaps on ABC, replacing Strahan and Sara show. As for CBS, I could see them pulling Let's Make A Deal, and them bring back ATWT, and if GL can't be brought back, maybe bring back Capitol as half-hour soaps.
They shouldn't have cancelled it. Crap like The Bold and The Beautiful (it was good until 2002) and Y&R (it was broadcasted a while here in The Netherlands and it's just bad lol) is still on the air and ATWT isn't, what a joke! TV has changed so much. How is this a tribute? They sat there for 5 minutes -_-
I am so upset I only started watching after it cancelled through reruns. Here in the US Y&R and B&B get younger viewers. It is the only soap that the mainstream press really talks about. ATWT and guiding light were considered the soaps for old people. And in the US advertisers only want young people dollars as they believe they are more malleable. It is why there are a bunch of shows that have lower ratings but still stay on air(gossip girl, teen shows).
Missy Baker; yes! It's all about money sadly. I understand a show needs to have viewers but at one point it was like they didn't even try. Here in The Netherlands ATWT had about 800.000 viewers every day. That's a lot for a daytime show and for a country with a population of 16 million.
***** I think given ATWT was on air since the 1950's they should have given it more respect. They did the same thing to Guiding light. I don't know if you got that show in the netherlands, but it was on even before ATWT. In the last season they cut the budget so much that they practically used a shaky handheld camera to shoot episodes.
DutchHPfan1992 I wish it was still on!!My mom had watched this from the beginning!! My dad just passed away and today was their anniversary-May 1,1954!!! She would have enjoyed watching it now.
I saw this I was so excited to see some of the Cast....I think everything that I loved in the world tv shows people are just leaving....😭 But I love watching old episodes.... Thank God for the internet.
As the World Turns should still be on the air, if it wasn't for the Talk's Julie Chen's husband giving her the Talk and cancelling As The World Turns!!!!
I guess what goes around☹, comes around...Les Moonves cancelled both Guiding Light and As the World Turns....now both him and his wife got cancelled, how ironic🤤
@@maddyhayes617 Simple, really. What Chris Goutman considered "generous," Martha Byrne considered lowballed... and rightfully so. They couldn't give her the same number of episodes she was guaranteed previously, so she walked. The fact that they let her still pisses me off.
Man, I LOVED this show! I was so not even a fan of "new Margo" Ellen but she grew on me. I miss that show. Wasn't even aware these soaps were off the air now....
No actors or actress's In soaps can hold a candle to these ladies.. Love my ATWT..Miss them soooooMuch. At least We can subscribe to the ATWT and G.L. You Tube Channels..💕🌹💕🌷
Here you have four incredibly talented women from an incredibly entertaining soap on one side of the stage, and a group of no-talent gabbers from a pathetically worthless talk show that replaced it on the other side. So sad.
I did not know Coleen Zenk, had Cancer in real life, she is ageless, Beautiful, and so happy she is Cancer free now, and oh all the Ladies of ATWT, what a great show seeing all of them again. Thank You, so much. So sad some Have left us...but Kim Zimmer, always one of my Favorites!!!
I gave up on day time soaps after ATWT and Guiding Light was cancelled. Those actors were like family members watching them on a daily basis. They had trials and tribulations in real life as evidenced by a Benjamin Henriksons suicide and Anthony Herraras cancer death.
I quit watching The Young and the Restless long before I quit watching As the World Turns in The Guiding Light. I tried to watch The Young and the Restless again and watch for a couple years. I quit. It's hard to watch a show when you really don't like anybody. In their Heyday Guiding Light and As the World Turns you even like the hated characters.
As the World Turns was also a part of an important moment in American Television History as well as American History. It was broadcasting at its usual timeslot of 1:30ET on CBS on November 22, 1963 when Walter Cronkite gave the CBS News Bulletin that JFK had been shot. This was significant for several reasons because (since the only TV Networks existing at this time were ABC, CBS, and NBC) CBS was the only network to have a national syndicated regularly scheduled program on as ABC and NBC gave their timeslots to local tv stations across the country. Additionally, As the World Turns was filmed live, but the actors had no idea of what was unfolding in Dallas, TX. As a result of all of this, As the World Turns ended up being the last regularly scheduled program to air on any network before JFK's assassination occurred as the next four days each network devoted time and energy to the transition of power from JFK to LBJ for the next four days. One other interesting tidbit about ATWT: when the soap went off the air in 2010, the show that replaced ATWT was The Talk.
I would have loved a cross OVER with As The World Turns and Young and Restless with Ms Chancellor and Lucinda Walsh. They both owned BIG Million Dollar Companies. It would have been a wonderful BITCH Festival between these two POWERFUL DAMES. Oh the Drama!!!! It would have been EPIC.😄😄😄😄
I grew up watching this show. I still remember when Lisa married Bob! Should still be on the air, good or bad stories, these people were like family and added a cohesiveness to the day. When they cancelled this and GL, well, what can we say........?
As the World Turns and Guiding Light...both canceled... ...and still the longest - running daytime soaps right now (I'll give y'all a few guesses as to which soaps are right behind them...the two I just mentioned and two others are the only ones that lasted 50+ years on TV).
DAYS is another 50+. I have been watching that one for many years (most of that time on and off because of that pesky thing called life lol) but have recently gone back to viewing regularly
ATWT had some ups and downs as far as storylines, but towards the end, it really became quite awful. There was no center and the identity was lost. It's a shame, because the cast was very good and made the best with what was offered. Off topic, but Colleen Zenk is truly one of the most beautiful women to ever grace a stage.
Thank you Chris for saying it like it is. When I first started watching this show in 1978 I was instantly glued to it. I followed it religiously up until somewhere in 1999 when for me the show began to unravel. What I had admired most about this show is that, even in that long 20 year span, the show always still managed to resemble itself with its core characters and families regardless of who was brought on the show and who had left. It ALWAYS felt like ATWT regardless in those 20 years. Starting in late 1999, the show was practically unrecognizable to me. I still watched some when I was on vacation or on a holiday break, but it never seemed anywhere remotely like I was watching ATWT. I took a day of vacation on Sept.18, 2010 to watch the very last episode and I was completely horrified at how truly awful it was. I was sorry to see it go, but it had completely run its course. I guess if the right EP and HW had gotten a hold to the show they could have brought it back to more like its previous glory, but at that time, I somehow knew this was never going to happen. I still to this day miss the "true" ATWT.
@@TimsDale4ever Actually ATWT'S actors won many emmy's in the 2000's More than in the 70s and 80 and 90 even....The show was great in 2010 as both Michael Park and Maura West won for best acting, the only sad thing that hurt ATWT's was letting Martha Byrne go, you can't replace a 20 year beloved veteran without losing and ticking off viewers..
Hard to believe this was just 5 years ago and both ATWT and GL got the 🪓, grew up watching both these shows with Mom (RIP), they all look fantastic but where was the great Eileen Fulton (Lisa)?...
The Talk, which replaced ATWT, now cancelled and ironically being replaced with the first new network daytime soap to premiere in 25 years.. R.I.P. Elizabeth Hubbard.
I gather that was an effort to placate ATWT fans who were still upset that the show was cancelled and replaced by The Talk but a 7 minute segment was insulting and probably made fans even more upset - such a stupid short sighted decision by CBS to cancel ATWT, it would have been great to see Lucinda Walsh and the rest of the fabulous cast another 10 years. #RIP Elizabeth Hubbard
We all know that ATWT had diversity on the show. Where’s the black and Latin actors at? I know that the lady (Tamera Tunie) from Law & Order played Jessica on the show. Jordana Brewster was also on the show too.
There were a few -Lucinda's daughter Bianca, Tonio Reyes, Pilar Domingues, Damian Grimaldi, Bonnie Mckencknie,Denise Maynard, Ben Harris-Marshall Travers-Dr. Lewis McCloud- more than you think!!!
Yes, Tamera Tunie looks the same as she did playing Jessica on ATWT- unbelievable! She also had a returning role on Blue Blood before her character was killed off
its saddens me to think these shows were replaced by senseless talk shows and and of all Ellen D. Take these people off the air for that!!UGH I miss them!!! I don't bother to watch the others.
