As WA leaders decide on future of grizzlies in state, B.C. leaders are moving forward with plans

While Washington leaders are deciding whether or not to bring back grizzly bears to the United States' side of the North Cascades, plans are moving forward to bring grizzly bears back to the North Cascades in British Columbia.
Washington has three potential plans on the table.
The first alternative, "Alternative A," would make no changes. No grizzly bears would be added to the North Cascades in Washington, and the current endangered species rules stay in place. Currently, landowners can only kill grizzlies if human life is threatened - not animals or livestock.
"Alternative B" and "Alternative C" would gradually bring 25 bears through a multi-year span. Ultimately, the goal would be to grow to 200 bears, which could take 60 to 100 years.

What do you mean. They are a bears, they walk on 4 paws, they hibernate, and sh*t in the woods. Just kidding. But we do have them in Anchorage. I can remember one death over 43 years.

I think his real point was that people already do many things to ensure that they are reducing the risk of dangerous encounters around black bears in the North Cascades. Most all of those behaviors apply directly to living and recreating in areas with grizzly bears, especially ensuring that food is stored properly so bears cannot get access to it no matter if that is at home or camping or on the trail. Grizzly bears tend to react more defensively during surprise encounters than black bears. However, and although the risk of attack cannot be completely eliminated, it can be greatly reduced by hiking in groups and making efforts to not surprise bears.

We have just had many mom black bears with cubs in town, and the grizzly are another 1,000 feet up at the ranch. We have zero issues with them unless they aren't in condition to survive the winter, which happens in nature. We had a three legged bear right in town for a few years, but no, someone complained the Conservation does an "assessment" and killed it. People complaining and false fears bug me more than a bear.

the grizzlies were persecuted and killed by hunters to extinction in the north cascade so we have moral obligation to bring them back. it is their territory and those who settled within nature areas should respect that and learn to coexist. otherwise consider moving closer to the city. you can’t just kill all grizzlies in their natural habitat, take over their territory and expect to live your way of life as you see fit. it is morally wrong and cruel. so we just got to coexist.

If you don't want to live in Bear country then don't move into BEAR COUNTRY! It's that simple! I lived in bear country and come from bear country. Just practice your awareness and do something more for your chicken and live stock than a crappy rabbit proof fence. You need fencing that could keep out a Bison/Grizzly. Good luck with that tho. Better the chicken than your children tho. Be safe and leave bear country if you're scared to coexist. Banning the use of dogs for hunting mountain lions caused a mountain biker to be killed by one. He was attacked and killed on Tiger Mountain bike trail. Several years ago in Enumclaw a mountain lion killed a residents goat. It happened in a well populated area. How many years will it take for a hiker or fisherman to be killed by a Grizzly bear. It will happen! Bears are called wild animals for a reason. They are very unpredictable no matter what the "tree huggers say".
@mikefitz6837
@mikefitz6837 8 месяцев назад
It's more a matter of learning to recognize the ways in which bears express their mood. In this way, bears are not unpredictable. During an encounter, a bear will let you know what on its mind and how it is feeling (such as curious or defensive). It's the surprise encounters when a bear a reacts so quickly that a person hardly has time to react that gives us the impression that it is unpredictable when, in contrast, the bear is reacting quite predictably to something it deems to be a possible threat.

I have studied the BC population records for Tweedsmuir Provincial park. Guess what, no grizzlies occupy the park which is right on the border with the NCNP in Washington. The food sources don't exist. If they plant bears they will end up down in the river valleys where a few salmon and steelhead return to spawn. That is where the people live. Yea there were tons of bears there before the dams were built. The best habitat for grizzlies is west of the cascade crest where all the people live. It is going to be a hell of a show if they put them in the NCNP. Grizzlies move hundreds of miles when there is not enough food.

You have some facts incorrect….Tweedsmuir Provincial Park in no way shares any border with Washington……it’s a prime grizzly habitat in central BC with Bella Coola BC bring one of the best places to venture out from into the park to see grizzly…..the only BC park that comes close to NC NP is Cathedral provincial park with unknown population of Grizzly that could cross the border…..so your premise is pretty flawed….
