Heck if you look at the Advanced Generation Anime itself, the chemistry between Ash and May can hint at something maybe romantic (Well, they definitely gave me that vibe). - From the tag battle against Oscar and Andy (who kept calling Ash and May a couple) - May seeming to root for Ash more than her own father during Ash and Norman's Gym Battle while Max was ill-bent on rooting for their father. - The way Ash saved may in that forest of Grass-Types and when May finds her Bulbasaur, he mentions his own Bulbasaur). And I could go on, with the rest or even the AG Movies (Temple of the Sea is my personal favourite Pokemon Movie).
