I loved the way Ian Botham ruthlessly played Thomson ! No matter what , he was never afraid to face any fast bowler and literally flattened the ego of Thomson & co. I was so fascinated by his cricket heroics during my childhood that i have nicknamed my son as " Botham " !
I was 14 when this match happened -I still remember the thunderous six Botham hit off Border to bring up his fifty, and saying 'Six ?! That should be TWELVE!' lol
I met and worked with Tim Robinson over a couple of years. Got to know him really well. Or so I thought. I just knew him as Tim. I had no idea he was a top international batsman. Had a lot of conversations about his umpiring after I found out who he really was

This was Thommo right at the end of his career. He wasn't picked for this tour but a raft of those rated higher than him went on a rebel tour to South Africa and we're either kicked off tour party or not available to replace those.
1985 Thommo as opposed to 1975 thommo. A bit like Kiss in 1985 vs 1975. Mind you still good enough to pick up 30 plus wickets in the 84/85 and 85/86 season each.
@@stuartfraser1856 He was 35 either before or during the tour and only played in two tests out of the six; this one and Edgbaston was the other I think...
Thommo was well past his prime, if I remember this series was his last international appearance & he retired after the series. Facing a fading star without a helmet is no big deal.
