This video is a deep dive on Ashes of Creation's controversial past and a look at how it's come along since the rocky beginning. Asmongold even makes an appearance (as a meme). In light of Josh Strife Hayes recent comments on AoC and Narc's response, I put in a solid 10 hours to get this video out today. It had half the script and some research done already, but had to be moved up for this. For the record, after my research I believe AoC's team has things well in hand, although WHEN we see Ashes release is anyone's guess. xQc.

I've heard so much from both sides of the debate on this game that I am sure there's a ton I missed. But I feel pretty good with their progress so far. Thank you for watching, please subscribe and let me know what you think of Ashes of Creation. Are you looking forward to Alpha 2?

Looking forward to alpha 2 for sure, but wished it came out years ago when I had more free time :) You definitely approached the topic fairly by playing devil's advocate and presented solid in game evidence to prove some viability. I have blinders on when it comes to Ashes (high on copium/hopium as the zoomers say) so it's good to see the skeptics' side of things.

@@hxdcm I think that's what Josh was trying to get across. Yeah the taming thing didn't go well but.. @AngersGG Thanks for the more thoughtful video. Most of the videos and commentaries that I have seen so far have been by..... over-enthusiastic (trying to be nice) future players. As one of the people below posted this past year has had great strides and I am optimistic that Intrepid will have a good product and at bare minimum will push the genre forward.

I completely forgot about the original 2018 release aim. You'd think 4 years after that date they would have a little more to show for it than what we currently have.

Just like the One Piece Live Action adaptation. What I've seen so far looks good and keeps getting better. So I'm being cautiously optimistic.

11/10. Nice to see an honest, thorough and balanced appraisal over time. Even if I do think you are nit picking about personally funding to the tune of 30-40 million. My argument would be, the initial 3 million from the kickstarter must have been long spent by now. ;)

You're right, because ultimately it doesn't matter where the money comes from as long as the product releases.

I don't need to be skeptic because they have everything to succeed. Having been already paid to complete and beyond gives me a lot of hope and also they don't have shareholders. Shareholders is the most destructive thing for a game.They only see profit..not a name not a brand not a game.. I'm not cautiously optimistic I think too many people are copying this from when Asmolgold started saying it all the time. I bought 3 packs of skins because I have a good job and I believe in this project. I never give money to a game I see is just bollocks..

Doesn't 'feel' scam. Has a pretty basic but cool idea [nodes]. Even if poorly implemented would be a nice addition. I guess Alpha 2 will be the real test/proof.

The same could be said for Star Citizen.. It's been in development for years. I see videos of both games online being played so it's best to have patience. Any project can fail, it's not like he got all the crowd funding etc and ran.

Good on you. Pointing out how some push games. It's really a big chunk of RU-vid now and it's more than just games. The whole thing is commercialized pretty much. However, more power to you as it's actually not a bad thing. If you're a cute chick and start a gaming channel it's nearly a guaranteed 100k subs lol. That there is beautiful. 🤠

You dont gotta hope or dismiss anything, time will pass and game comes out or not. I would be very glad if it turned out great as portrayed, if not, oh well, life goes on jeeez. And those people that invested in the project, everyone knows it might not be what they hoped for so they are aware what they went into. This whole discussion back and forth is a waste of time -.- not for content creators tho, got something to do alright

I am skeptical of this game, but not for a lot of the reasons I keep hearing from others. For me, the core of an mmo is how fun the PVE is. Right now the combat and PVE looks like dog shit to me. The players who participated in the alpha said they disliked the majority of the quests that sent them running really far across the map to slay a couple mobs using a combat system that felt unrewarding. I wouldn't even bother getting hyped about PVP or the node system until they really polish the basic combat and PVE. Not everyone is going to be able to join the top guilds on the server, so if you're going to keep the game alive you're going to need a rewarding end game for them that isn't player driven (pvp/raids) as well. I feel like they're going to fall into the same mistakes as Archeage, where the top guilds immediately claimed the best end game territories and you couldn't really participate in end game raid content unless you were a member of one. This kind of game design leads smaller guilds or solo players to quit. Being able to maintain these smaller players is super important for an mmo to feel "alive" or populated outside of the top players. Smaller guilds need to be able to run fun PVE content to help them get better gear so they can possibly take on the big established guilds in the PVP sieges. If they can't nail this aspect, I do not think we will see the node system function the way they claim it will, "transforming" the world and having established nodes be downgraded to unlock nearby nodes for other player groups. It will be a more static game if no one wants to do PVE and in turn no one feels like they can take on the bigger guilds. Albion online has the best comparison to the node system I've seen, where guilds can lose their territories to other guilds and it's quite brutal. My large guild mostly quit the game after we lost our territory and all of our equipment that was stored there. The thing was, even if it sucked to lose your territory and equipment, at least the game really did have a world that was constantly changing and you were always at risk of being challenged by someone at a level equal to you. I'm skeptical that Ashes of Creation will be able to overcome the loss of players that will want to quit after such an event, or that the game will have enough long term players that these events will even happen on a regular basis.

ok so 1. They had sped up node progression for Alpha 1 and capped them to a level 3 node from what I remember so within the first five minutes of the video there's some misinformation. 2. everything you went over with the marketing side is pretty accurate and I even as an alpha key holder agree their marketing is concerning. 3. I can tell you are not someone who has followed the project closely, just now reacting to the siege battle from alpha 1, just now finding out there's a mini-map and a guild system ect. It seems like you spent a couple hours researching the negative spotlight of their marketing but didn't put much effort into researching the development of the game itself and it shows because of those minor things that surprised you like the minimap and guild system. To my surprise at the end of the video your stance and perception of the project is not far from my own. Overall you are very well spoken and put together a decent video, but I hope you take more time to research the game itself in the future. keep up the hard work.
@angersgg
@angersgg Год назад
There is no misinformation. I was quoting a PCGamer article from 2017, that quoted the lead game designer who said they hadn't figured out how to show Node progression. That was HIS words and why it was concerning at the time. This video is definitely intended to address the negative spotlight and hopefully put it to rest. Thanks for taking the time.
@TheBoggledMind
@TheBoggledMind Год назад
@@angersgg sigh... Like you mentioned in the very start of the video it's an article published in 2017, yet when you dive deeper into that article a few minutes later you speak about it like it is current information. 4:08 to 5:00 It is how you are saying things, "your team can't do this, it's no wonder why people are skeptical" ... "are skeptical" referring to the present, then proceed to say this is something you could accomplish in minutes right now also referring to the present. This specific topic of not showing off the node system is something people "were" skeptical about in 2017, they have since shown off a glimpse in how nodes will work in alpha 1 ( a glimpse because they sped up the process and capped the node level at 3 ). Again its how you are saying it, and the lack of stating the topic is past tense. Which guess what...is misleading... very next topic, the referral program... you say " this generated a lot of controversy at the time"... "at the time" clearly making it known the topic is past tense... you do this throughout the video, taking old information and choosing a verbiage/diction that makes it seem like current information. which is again.....misleading. I'm not trying to be mean here but when you take old information and talk about it like it is current information, which is misleading, that is considered misinformation because you are falsely providing old information as current information. ergo misinformation...

@@TheBoggledMind As you say, it was explicitly mentioned in the video. You, as the viewer, are assumed to be capable of processing that comment and applying its implications to segment that follows. The entire video was a discussion of initial concerns and questionable business practices--which still affect the game/company's reputation today--and of the proof of progress shown ever since. Doesn't seem like too difficult a concept to grasp to be honest.
@TheBoggledMind
@TheBoggledMind Год назад
@@LH_Vagrant so if there's proof of progress, where in this video did you see anything about progress made with the node system? There isn't any he provided old information and whether he meant to or not used diction that could mislead people into thinking its a current problem, all I'm trying to point out is that in some areas of the video he did a great job and makes it clear, very clear and in others he doesn't. reacting to a video a year and a half old, and again presents it as current information still not showing where development is at now. 12:37 "lets take a look at what we've seen so far" completely disregarding a year and a half of progress. He shows off some footage towards the end from the weather effects update which is in UE5 and still doesn't mention anything about current progress. I didn't think the concept of present/past tense was something difficult to grasp. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@TheBoggledMind
@TheBoggledMind Год назад
@AngersGG Please don't take what I am saying personally, take it with a grain of salt. My intent here is not to put you down but to show you that how you present things depending on how its presented, can and will be misleading for some viewers. Don't be like @L H who assumes everyone who watches will make that connection. Imagine you're a viewer who has never heard of ashes and your video is the first video they watched. Do you really think this video clearly shows some initial issues? yes, do you think it properly goes over where development is at now or even where the marketing is at currently? Your answer should be no, and that's ok because it means you have room to grow and improve as a creator. By no means am I a professional content creator and if you go to my channel and watch videos I've made in the past you will see mistakes nobody is perfect. But a little constructive criticism is not a bad thing. Take what I'm saying and do with it what you want with it. Just keep up the hard work and I can see you turning into the Nixxiom of Ashes.
