Gw2 and ff14 may be not the best but it still on top of the list for me...Also I don't have any expectations for upcoming mmo at all.

I believe that the perfect mmorpg needs a realistic feel to it. The metaverse in all honestly I think is where it truly begins. I like the feel of an open world where u get rewarded by discovering places and the rewards are distinct to each and everyone, triggering random event exclusive to you in line with ur class in a way or perhaps a one of a kind item that took time and resources by following some lore hints in game. But this is also completely beyond what we can do now.

Ashes of creation will be my last shot at mmos. One last ride. If it doesn’t deliver I’ll be retiring from the MMO gente permanently.

My #1 request for MMOs is that mobs don't just run towards you and autoattack until dead. The only way to find interesting fights in MMOs is to PvP, or grind through trash to bosses (if you like pre-scripted fights). I'm waiting for one where the mobs have at least *some* intelligence. Most animals run away if attacked, or hide. Dogs fight in groups. Intelligent enemies should fight intelligently, not just be big sacks of HP that hit hard. Maybe one day...

sounds pretty amazing, not sure if it is possible unless maybe an AI that achieves singularity and decides to be a benevolent god that likes people to play in their sandbox

I'd love that. The main issue is, it would turn the game into a grind and become inaccessible to newer/less skilled/casual players. Say you want to be a commander? Well you need to raise an army. You need to find troops. You probably need to join an army and run through the ranks yourself. Look at player driven games today. Power gets concentrated around a few power houses in the world, with the other players being left to essence play a different game. It sounds like a ton of fun. But the main issue is simulating a world, would also simulate it's issues where most people would just end up being our own NPC's never actually being able to be anything more than a no named adventurer. And if mobs and PvE content has a realistic biome system, players would most likely farm creature and item to extinction.

One thing you failed to mention is the business model and how sustainable it would be, especially considering the future after release and content generation. Might be a hot take, but I think a sub model is the most fair and transparent model to go with. As much as people gripe and groan about the sub model, I think F2P is way worse for the player experience because there's no real incentive to cater to free players leading to things like artificially long grinds and a way to sell you a solution to that or cutting out the most powerful and/or best looking gear to be sold to you for way more than its really worth. B2P can be good too, but again it's not sustainable for a genre that needs continual development and content generation which leads back to either going with a sub model or a freemium style store.

Not quite sure id agree on such a wide array of subjects. What most mmos fail with is that they make it so single player and hub focused that it leaves out the interaction that you need to keep the game dynamic and engaging with the community. Yes that includes the good and the bad. The need to be designed such as everyone takes part in a large system like you said but not in a genre mixing way but systems that relate to eachover. Crafters help raiders and raiders helps the casuals. The pvpers lives of the players and keeps people on their toes. (A mix of open world areas for pvp and some semi protected ones where you may relax. I do believe you have heard of ashes of creation. If that game is anything that it proposes to be then it may be the game that you may enjoy. New world also has this guild controlled setup for areas. with guild versus guild castle fights. Sounds much like you mentioned in the video.

As a console player, I unfortunately haven’t had the experience of a great MMO. Hopefully that will change in the future

Yes, current mmo releases are beating a dead horse, it’s all been done. The things that made us fall in love with wow, eq, and ffxi are all done better else where now. From the social aspect to the dopamine hits, they have to evolve. I basically get my mmo vibe from a genre that really has nothing to do with any mmo. Yet……emergent gameplay with other players, hardcore pvp with palatable consequences, character growth, a massive variety of “classes” talent trees like classic wow, a massive world to explore with a multitude of secrets to find……sounds like a banger of an mmo yea? It’s not, you play as a dinosaur in a player driven ecosystem. They are going to/have evolved and I don’t think we will ever see another massively successful theme park mmo.

I still wait the mmorpg that will copy / the daoc rvr ranks. More than a title or some utilities but real exclusive impactful rvr new abilities that you can choose.

This is why I auto-grouping, class balance but also classes that complement each other. Systems like classes that Buff, Heal, Crowd Control, DPS and Tanking. Along with crafting skills that let you alter and puff your characters states to suit your play style. Just because two Druids have Rejuvenation. Those should be able to be altered for your preference of play style. Secondly the auto-grouping that teleports straight to the dungeon, it does two things MMORPG’S should never do. One, it stops you from talking to other players and friends to see if they would like to group and do “X” dungeon. Because what mmorpgs need are what solo games can’t give you. Community, interactive guilds that help you learn to play an excel at your character. A tank should die holding every job on him. Why? Because dodging and blocking become harder as 4-6 mobs beat on you.

I don't know what's wrong with me, but I like vanilla WoW the most and believe me if you liked modern MMOs more, then it's more of a case that you will enjoy every new mmo at least little bit, but I can't... Be grateful that's all I am saying...

I don’t think the content of an mmo matters. The community and purpose of that community matters… Because like you said at the end of the day an MMO is meant to be explored and shared with other players. The MMO you describe is possible with current technology… a more dynamic and ever changing and expanding world that reacts to player input is not and that is what I believe the best mmo we will never play will be… because at the end of the day static worlds are what we get. Give A.I. and machine learning 50 years and I bet we can have a world that can actually evolve, expand, and change rather than exist as static entities with some small measure of rng and randomness

Disagree with your pvp take, battlegrounds and arenas kill world pvp & similar types of instanced battles can be organized by players in the open world regardless (instead of having instances).

The thing a MMO needs is a system that doesn't make you feel pissed when you try something, like upgrading a gear and that having a chance to break, it would be better if that was a difficult process instead of RNG. The leveling must be slow and instead of farming the nonsense GS where you drop the same piece of gear over and over again, actually feel the progression of equiping a new gear, a totally different and redesigned armor or weapon. I'm tired of mmos where the armor you drop at level 1 is the same at max level, tired of this "endgame content" where you spam dungeons to have a chance to drop something good because if you dont, guess what, you get crushed in PvP or you're not capable of doing better dungeons.

If you want an mmo to be everything.. Its gotta be ready player one level. Portals to different game genres a hub for it.

I dislike the narrative of "ashes will never come out". MMOs can take 5-8 years to develop. They are a new dev team. The only reason it feels like it will never release is due to their honesty. Monthly stream where you can literally see the game looking closer to done. They also switched to UE5 which I would gladly wait for. I will wait years for ashes if it is a great MMO. For too long the best MMOs look like shit and are old or they are P2W.

The perfect MMO will playout entirely in bullet time, where an AI controlled, camera system constantly circles the player.

it CAN be made, is just needs to be small and compact, not too big of a server and remove monetary transaction between players, instead use a true trade, item by item (crafted) exchange system

The best mmo is guild wars 2 bc you don't have to do any of that crap. You can just log on and casually pvp. Throwing your time into an mmo seemed like a great idea when I was in my teens and early 20s and didn't care about wasting my youth. But it's a really stupid thing to throw away on something that in the long run doesn't matter. They will just shut the mmo down one day and you have nothing to show for it but useless memories from a pointless game

yes, GW2 is the greatest mmo at the moment … but for me the whole asia kind look is just too much and a big turn off.

Oh boy you were doing so good until you got to PVP. 😣 First off, NO ONE wants to do concensual PVP in the overworld, its too inconvenient and time consuming which is why in open world games with opt in PVP, you see pvp almost entirely in instances. Secondly, not everyone who wants forced PVP is a griefer, I don't want to grief but I want it. Grouls are not so simple as being a monolith. Thirdly, griefers are NOT bad for the game, they create dynamic encounters that keep the game interesting and varied with player interactions. Not to mention if done right which, it hadn't, it can be great for the economy of the server. Fourthly, a world with no danger is no world at all and MMOs need to be worlds. Lastly, people keep saying we should get rid of leveling but never propose anything to replace it. Thus its not going to work. Leveling isn't a bad system, its not a one size fits all but it works in most cases so it should still exist in games of the caliber you're talking about. There is room for multiple types of progression in the genre which includes leveling.

The most "perfect" MMO is the one you were showing, GW2. The rest of ones are pure mediocre and overrated games.

Except the fact that the player models look like potatoes and the combat is clunky.
