@ROBINSONREX1 It was fairly close to the end, relatively, but warfare and the general situation would change a lot over the next couple decades. The English ultimately lost the hundred years war. If you're trying to gauge when the battle took place, if there are a few cannons it's early on, if the French battle line is fronted by hundreds of cannons then it's late. Also a bad time to be English. Also I just straight up don't believe that she could fire a bow as big as her. The draw strength on longbows is so much you could tell who was an archer back home because one arm would be average and one would be massive. It was an occupation that literally deformed people. Be smart and use a crossbow. Much easier.
@KenS1267

@@KenS1267 The longbow is literally taller than her. She talks about being effectively a badass warrior. Do you really think after the first few attempts she's going to be able to "help end the hundred years war"? Something being doable doesn't mean you're able to do it repeatedly and effectively while being charged by knights or under crossbow fire. For the record, six arrows a minute is about half the rate a normal longbowman would be firing at.

+heinekencobra Age is something of a private joke for the Doctor and the writers, since it's virtually impossible to keep track of. He's a time traveller, after all. The War Doctor fought in the Time War for a very long time indeed, enough to age considerably, but how do you measure age in a Time War? The Eleventh Doctor embraced the joke fully by claiming he'd aged two hundred years over the time he'd known Amy and Rory, while the Twelfth Doctor completely gave up. The whole thing on Trenzalore is a solid amount of time, no matter how you slice it, so he simply adds that to his old estimate and says "I'm over 2000 years old," without ever bothering to try and calculate it properly.

+DarthRushy How? She was a prior example of the Doctor trying to defy death, as he would later do with Clara, and why it's better to sometimes let time just take its course. She was a foil to this Doctor's ideals of trying to control time itself, which would come into play in Hell Bent. Such subtleties are something that often goes amiss on television shows. Hardly pointless.

I always was a bit bothered that the Doctor didn't make a focused effort to help her; instead leaving her to travel through humanity's history the long way 'round. I held out hope he'd take her to some place in the future to be fitted with some minor cybernetic augmentation for her memory. Even if it could simply double or triple her memory banks, it would be a quality of life improvement and her personal development might be positively effected if she can actually remember meaningful emotional events.
@jennosyde709
@jennosyde709 Год назад
The thing is, I think the Doctor probably did have the capacity to augment her memory (potentially even to that of his own), but I think he deliberately chose not to. Knowing his character, he tends to equate longevity with great suffering, and in his mind, he likely thought he was giving her mercy by allowing her to forget. He understands what it is like to see countless close relationships end in death, and he probably projected his negative experiences onto her, thinking that he knew what was best for her, rather than letting her determine that for herself. While I am not sure if it is intentional or not, it would indeed fit the Doctor's character quite well and highlight one of his critical flaws.

From what I can see here, the problem a lot of people have with Ashildr is how simply her immortality came about yet how long it lasted, how inconsistent her character seemed and how pointless her character seemed in the grand scheme of things. I disagree. The Mire chip was expected to last forever barring a huge accident. By the end of The Woman Who Lived, we got that Ashildr was extremely smart. That she had learned which battles to get involved in and who to trust (i.e. next to no one). By Face the Raven we saw that to what lengths she was willing to go to protect her own life and those around her (i.e. forming a contract with a quantum shade in order to deliver unavoidable death to anyone she chose and making a deal with the Time Lords). Ashildr is like a smarter, even more dangerous form of the Tivolians. If necessary, everyone is expendable. Most other races, it can be seen, are warrior races that needlessly endanger their lives which would cancel out any healing factor they may have. Other than that, the Daleks can be blamed for killing everyone else. Her character seemed inconsistent because it was supposed to be. She started out as a proud Viking girl who, even in the face of powers she didn't understand, was not afraid to pick a fight. There was also an element of fear and humility to her where she was willing to admit when she was wrong and when she needed help. This all came from a fear of death and a lack of understanding of the wider universe. The Doctor ultimately took those away from her. Eventually, she was no longer afraid to die and saw everyone else who died as fleeting shadows in her own endless existence, so her pride went up tenfold. She learned to be the best at everything she needed to be so she didn't have to ask anyone for help. And, she didn't have anyone to answer to. She eventually surpassed every authority figure she had ever known in lifespan and skill and she there would never be anyone to tell her she was wrong and get away with it. She had a fleeting compassion for everything around her, even those things she liked. Hers is a case of someone who live longer than she can love. Imagine reaching 80 years old and looking back on your life and realizing how young and stupid you had been and laughing at those memories. Imagine telling your grandkids how you used to to be when you were there age and how much you had changed. Now imagine being 800 years old and looking back on your life and finding a gaping hole. You can't remember a single detail from your childhood and even having your children is a complete blank. Imagine Being over a thousand and forgetting what it was like to be 800 when you tried to remember what it was like being 'young' and coming up blank. Ashildr's character is inconsistent because she can't remember being any other way. It's those small things in our personalities that change as we get older times ten. Her character was certainly not pointless. As one commenter pointed out, she was another result of the Doctor's meddling. The Doctor has always had a problem with authority, even when he himself is the authority (Time Heist). The Tenth Doctor was most notable for trying to break one of his sacred rules and changing a fixed point in time. The thing is, this always worked out for him. The fixed point would correct itself, whatever monstrosity he created would die or he would eventually destroy it (The Metal-crisis Tenth Doctor and the Doctor Donna), or something else would happen that basically leaves the universe unharmed. Ashildr is the exception. She was there to show that the Doctor had gone too far and that some mistakes wouldn't simply go away. She goes on to surpass the Doctor in character development by Hell Bent because, while the Doctor never learns to leave well enough alone, she does. The Doctor even aids in her teaching by letting her know who not to piss off and, I would assume, she took the lesson to heart (for as long as she could remember it anyway). In fact, all of season 9 was about the Doctor facing judgment for his meddling. From rescuing Davros to rescuing Clara, all in the name of, I would call it, selfishness. Ashildr was there at the end of the universe as the one person who could lecture the Doctor. By Hell Bent, the Doctor had lived out over 4.5 billion years, which essentially made everyone around him a child and subject to his whims. Ashildr, on the other hand, had lived... frankly I don't even know but it was way longer than he had, essentially making the Doctor a child to her. The Doctor likes to claim that he is an x year old Time Lord from Gallifrey, but Ashildr can claim that she is an xx year old human from Earth and she has lived, loved and lost more than she or anyone can remember and has absolutely earned the right to be angry at anyone she wants to. While the Doctor zips from one even to another, she has to live those boring parts in the middle and, in a figurative sense, it killed her. The most heartbreaking thing I always saw about her character was that every time she met the Doctor, he would call her by her name and she would be confused. Imagine living to the point where you can't remember your own name. So, yeah. After all that, Ashildr is dangerous but careful which sustains her immortality (sidenote: even though the Time Vortex is what brought back Captain Jack, it was established that he would continue to age as well as his penchant for danger which would ensure that would die sooner or later), she is inconsistent because she can't remember being anyway else and she is the perfect example of the Doctor's meddling getting out of hand.

He made someone immortal then left her to figure out the world herself and when she asked if she could come with him because humans life span are to short. He rejected her even tho he knows exactly how she feels. He didn’t want to take responsibility he didn’t want to live with someone who could possibly out live him and be stuck with one person forever someone smarter than him who won’t look to him in a sort of god complex. She’s lived so long emotions began fading that’s not ok.

The English were finally kicked out and started a 30 years civil war (two roses war). The civil war was ended thanks to the expeditionary corps sent by Anne de Beaujeu, French regent, another decisive woman. Agincourt was by no way decisive, except in english primary school history books.

Where you expecting her to assume you walked? A being who could restructure time and space on a whim and walk through the centuries would hardly have needed to put a piece of technology in her to save her life. It's perfectly reasonable for her to assume you use some sort of conveyance to travel with, and ship would be the logical term. That suspicion was oddly placed in the scene.

I hate that so much. I mean, I can understand that thing would be capable of making a mere human not die of old age, but as the Doctor said, she's not immortal. How does she not die after all those battles? How does that thing keep running for 800 years?
@wea1117
@wea1117 8 лет назад
No the Doctor said she is immortal. She has biological immortality which is where something cannot die without something external to cause it. What she is not is indestructible. She could still die if someone killed her, if she fell off a cliff or if she caught the right disease. The thing that keeps her alive is likely taking the energy to keep itself functional from her own body meaning that as long as she's alive it can continue to run and as its function is to keep her alive she'll survive as long as something doesn't kill her in a way the device can't fix. As to how she's not been killed in a war or something. Practise. Like she says with enough practise she could become the best at anything she set her mind to. Anyone could. It's just most don't put in enough time for them to achieve that level before their bodies begin to slow. But in her case that'll never happen so she's had as much time as she wants to get skilled enough that she can outfight anyone..

Well yes but Doctor is 2000+ years old and if it wan't for the Time Lords giving him extra regenerations he would be dead. The Universe is going to die in trillions and trillions of years , a number we can't even think of , in all of that time , she hasn't had a life stopping accident? She would also forget these skills given a normal size brain as well as at the end of the Universe , she would have forgot the Doctor. I know he is important but she has had trillions of years isolated from life at the end of the universe. She would have forgot how to talk and gone mentally insane. I know I have thought to far into this but oh well .
@wea1117
@wea1117 8 лет назад
TheZebbga The Doctor was going to die from old age. The Doctor does NOT have biological immortality, The Time Lords are long lived but they are not immortal. And remember he was dying from old age after being trapped on a planet for over 1000 years with one of the most dangerous races in the galaxy trying to kill him for all that time. If anything this is proof that she would be able to survive for that time with the practise to back it up especially when she only has to contend with Humans whereas the Doctor has to contend with Daleks. As for her being able to survive all that time. The Average lifespan of a human nowdays is 76 years old. And a great deal of this is because of the weakening immune system and body due to old age if not a direct death by old age itself. If you rewind to the time when she was born then it was around 40 HOWEVER that reduction was mainly because of the frequent deaths at infancy and if you survived that time then you could easily reach 70 years old if you were lucky. You'll notice that with both of these the loss of life is when you are far beyond your prime and thus much weaker to outside causes. However she does not have that problem as she'll never age beyond her prime and simply has more and more time to accumulate skills and experience that reduces the chances of her dying even further. When augmented by access to increased technology and the time and experience to learn how to use and enhance it she can further reduce the risk of death to the point where it is just about null especially when taking into account the wealth that she would accumulate over that time. Basically the longer a biological immortal lives the less chance there is dying and the chance of one dying in the first place is rather low. As to the going insane part. There are other very long lived races in the universe and they survived almost as long as she did as she herself stated when the Doctor found her at the end of the universe so she wouldn't be starved for conversation. And even after that in a few trillion years we did manage to figure out AI (That's canon. We've seen them) and she's more than rich enough to have some in her "Panic Room" so even then she'd have someone to speak to.

stramayne yea, the first time we met her she was this wonderful woman, but after the doctor made her immortal she became more detached cold hearted, and became more arrogant, she didn’t share half her lifetime anymore. She didn’t turn out like the doctor, the doctor copes and heals but he also breaks and gets damaged but he knows himself the doctor knows he shouldn’t be isolated his companions bring out the best of him, meanwhile ashildr lost a lot of people in her lifetime she, lost it. She didn’t think about anyone but herself, but the good thing is in the woman who lived, she began to care more but after that in face the raven she didn’t show much expression in care I guess she did help a lot of aliens but I feel it’s kind of a selfish kind of way like just to keep her feeling good. Yea she’s smart but I think she flaunts it too much it becomes annoying, and the fact that she thinks the doctor has an obligation to her to take her to the tardis. Also the fact she bamed herself “me” I really think that’s a bit too self centered and selfish. She started to value human lives less which I really think disturbes the doctor, if she’s in the new season I personally don’t want her, not unless she learns and develops more as a character If you read this, thanks. Typing is hard My opinion only, but if you want to correct me in some point go ahead but don’t give me death threats please guys, chill

^ that is not very accurate. Saracen archery is basically holding 3 arrows and firing those 3 arrows rapidly. To fire 6 arrows would take you 10 seconds and the velocity is limited because of the burden of holding extra items with the firing arm.

Remember the nanites that kept turning people into zombies wearing gas masks in the episode where they introduced the Doctor and Rose to Jack Harkness... Jack's spaceship also had similar medical nanites though his nanites wasn't set to infinitely heal like the alien ones which was causing the gas mask wearing zombies.

I couldn't understand why the doctor was so reluctant to take her with him, or at the very least, help her obtain the means to travel the galaxy. Even without time travel, the universe is still a big place that an immortal will never run out of things to see, do, and learn. 11 gave a crew of 18th century pirates a spaceship to travel the stars, why couldn't 12 have helped her get a ship of her own to adventure in, would have made for a nice spin-off series.
