"The Woman Who Lived" received universal critical acclaim, with many critics labeling it the best of the current series. It currently holds a score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes with an average score of 9.0, being beaten by Heaven Sent. The site's consensus reads: "The Woman Who Lived" concludes a Doctor Who story for the ages, with a performance by Maisie Williams that is both fun and thought-provoking". Elements of the episode especially praised by critics included the performances of Capaldi and Williams, the episode's dark visual tone and the dialogue between the Doctor and Me. - Wikipedia Who hijacked the article?

'You're an extraordinary woman, Ashildr. I mean, you saved the world, which you wouldn't have needed to do had you not made a rather ill-informed decision to form an alliance with a malevolent lion from outer space and showed little remorse in exploiting a man's suffering to fracture the delicate skin of reality itself, which ultimately resulted in a planetary bombardment by an entire fleet of space lions, not forgetting the body count of people who did die in the time it took for you to realise your mist-actually, no, on second thoughts, I don't think you're that great to be honest. I seriously worry what's going to happen the next time we meet. Better not let you meet Clara again. That could be really bad. Okay, bye. P.S You're insane."

If you only consider the physical manifestation the threat, yes, but the true threat was her attitude, her way of seeing the world, her lack of coping with her immortality. Mayo Tango131 Actually some of her episodes for Torchwood were the best that show produced. "Out of Time" is a classic in my view. I think the issue is that her style doesn't fit well with Doctor Who. It's as though someone tapped her on the shoulder and reminded her to include an alien threat.

Danny O'Gara If you look at the RTD, they managed to do so much in 45 minutes, and it doesn't feel rushed at all, in fact it feels like an hour. Sleep No More was so rushed it didn't have a conclusuion, even Before the Flood, the 2nd part, was rushed, because so much time was wasted on useless character "development" drabble.

Yeah more or less. The Ashildr/Me storyline was always stupid and thankfully didn't progress beyond that season. I was never really a fan of Peter Capaldi but Jodie Whitaker seems better at least in comparison. 12's time had two really redeeming qualities: 1 we finally got a proper resolution to the River Song storyline. That was pretty much the perfect ending ever for that character and if they bring her back again I'm gonna be REALLY pissed. And 2 we finally got a resolution on the Harold Saxon Master. For most of 12's tenure we had a female Master called Missy. If you've watched this far you know all about her. For most of her tenure on the show we knew nothing about what caused the Master to become Missy with the most likely explanation being that the Master's condition in the End of Time caused him to regenerate. A big theme of series 10 was the Doctor trying to turn an imprisoned Missy to good. His companions in that series were Bill Potts a university student of his and Nardole a former aid to River Song who she basically ordered to keep an eye on the Doctor after their last night together. Last 24 year long night together that is. After Missy seemed to turn good, the Doctor tested it by having her reply to a distress call from a 400 mile long colony ship experiencing time dilation due to proximity to a black hole. The lowest floor was where the people were converting themselves into Cybermen to survive as it was Mondasian colony ship. The mastermind behind the plot was the Harold Saxon Master in disguise from after the End of Time. The Doctor determined that after getting back to Gallifrey the Time Lords fixed the Master's condition and kicked him off the planet. The Master eventually landed on the colony ship but got stuck after he tried to go too fast while leaving and burned out his dematerialization circuit. The Doctor commented that the Master never could drive. At the end of the adventure, the Doctor blew up an entire floor to stop most of the Cybermen to give the survivors time to find a more long term solution with Nardole's help. The battle caused the Doctor to regenerate, but not before he had one more adventure with the First Doctor and an ancestor of the Brigadier. Missy provided the Master with a new dematerialization circuit decided to stand with the Doctor and stabbed her past self in the back in order to force his regeneration into her, but made it so that he would have enough time to leave in his TARDIS before regenerating. Unwilling to stand with the Doctor in any of his lives, the Master killed Missy with his Laser Screwdriver (from Series 3), supposedly disabling her regeneration and Missy died redeemed more or less. However, the new showrunner has ruined this perfect ending for the character of the Master and brought him back in Series 12 in a new male even more insane incarnation. The ONLY redeeming thing I think the guy can do about that one is to make this Master a previously unseen incarnation between the Saxon and Missy incarnations. We never saw the Saxon Master regenerate, we just knew that he was gonna and we have no explanation as of yet for how Missy supposedly survived to become this new Master.

@@jda4111 No it's good. The River Song wrap up was particularly perfect 😁😁😁. Especially since it fulfilled River's last prophecy before she died: their final night on Darillium at the Singing Towers. The episode gave us a stark look at River's character when the Doctor isn't around because for most of the adventure she had no idea it was him as River thought that 11 was his final incarnation. Revealed that she had a lot of husbands (the episode was called The Husbands of River Song) and she pretended to fall in love with men to manipulate them. Left in question her true feelings for the Doctor until this one incredible scene where she admitted she really did love him 🤩🤩🤩 but thought that he didn't love her back which she was fine with 😭😭😭. She gave a really great speech about loving the Doctor only to realize right afterwards that he was standing right next to her 😂😂😂. The episode revealed that the Doctor kept putting off their night on Darillium to avoid the end of their time together. After they crashed in front of the Singing Towers he finally gave into the inevitable. However they still got a happy ending: turns out a night on Darillium equals 24 years and they were there all night long.

@@jda4111 One of the best moments was in Peter's last episode Twice Upon a Time. It featured an adventure with both the First and Twelfth Doctors as they both refused to regenerate and got caught up in an adventure together. In one scene, the Doctor's companion Bill Potts asked the First Doctor the real reason he left Gallifrey in the first place. He explained that the true reason is he was seeking an answer to a question of his own: the universe is filled with both good and evil. Under all of the circumstances evil should always win and good should always lose but its the other way around. The Doctor wanted to know why, if there was some force or being out there that maintained the balance. Bill realized that none of the Doctors ever realized the truth: that it was them that kept evil from prevailing.

People prefer watching Rose whine about her mum while pining over a 900 year old alien rather than actual Doctor Who for some reason.

Speak for yourself, I found it tedious and poorly written. Buffy did that sort of thing better.

Not to mention that the same RTD commented that was inspired by Buffy and Smallville for his "Story Arcs"

+Mayo Tango131 I knew about the Buffy one, didn't know Smallville was an inspiration too. Makes sense, though.

Ok Doctor. RU-vid is about NEW. Most of the videos going up are just the clips of the show. How about some BTS, Set design, buildings, interviews with the actors and crew. Not the Doctor and companion. This channel could be so much more. That is why there are only 768,451. How many Doctor who fans are there in the world? Step it up BBC. I think you need some pointers from actual Top RU-vidrs.

Uploading clips from the previous seasons has been a thing since this channel started. Besides, they upload scenes that many people love (not this one though) which gets them millions of views and thousands of subscribers each time (just look at the most popular videos on this channel. All famous scenes from past episodes). So you want them to take away what increases their channel's popularity.

MaddoxProductions1 I don't think the BBC are aloud to advertise Big Finish. BBC is publicly founded (or something like that) and the law says they can't advertise stuff that is not owned specifically by them (or something like that) and Big Finish is an independent company. I have not explain this well enough, I hope somebody out there can explain it better, but it's the reason you don't see audio dramas on this channel or any audio drama stuff (like gadgets) being advertise by the BBC.

MaddoxProductions1 As I said, I don't really know. I hope somebody will explain it better. But I do know for certain that they can't do it with Big Finish.

I never liked 12 but 13 seems okay at least compared to 12. I didn't like 11 at first either but he really grew on me as time went on. Did you know that Peter Capaldi played 3 different characters across the various Doctor Who TV shows. One is obviously the Doctor.
@WarGrowlmon18
@WarGrowlmon18 4 года назад
PS: the one redeeming thing I can think of for 12 is that the writers gave us true closure on the River Song storyline and the Harold Saxon Master storyline. For 12's reign most of the time we were dealing with a female incarnation of the Master called Missy but the Saxon Master did return for 2 episodes from AFTER the last time we saw him. It actually seemed like the perfect conclusion for the Master/Missy character too but the new showrunner went and ruined it with an even more insane incarnation of the Master in the new series. The only POSSIBLE way the showrunner guy can redeem that one is by making this new Master between the Saxon incarnation and the Missy one instead of after Missy. We do know how and why the Saxon Master regenerated now but it never happened on-screen so its really only an assumption that he became Missy.

@jamesx6247
@jamesx6247 8 лет назад
You preferred this to the Zygon invasion? Seriously?
@thejellyfisha
@thejellyfisha 8 лет назад
The Zygon two parter annoys me as it feels like a really poor imitation of a global urban thriller and it was so forced and pointless, the bits that worked in those episodes is just the core conceptual elements - good zygons living among us, splinter group rebelling, what do we do. part 2 is better because it shrugged off most of that faux thriller and was just propelled by ideas and questions. RTD era was much better with this genre. Woman Who Lived was supposed to be a quieter contemplative episode about two characters, the villain plot was obviously secondary and i didnt mind that. This climax was a little weak but I can forgive it because its clearly not the point of the episode. It was a fun episode to watch without trying and failing to be something more
