I've never seen a defense attorney be so unprepared when questioning flipping through all those pages on a legal pad. That bump on his head must have been a hard hit.
@Jimo She could have said that when her friend found out she spent the money, she attacked her and she had to defend herself. I'm not saying it would have worked.
Wow the defense clarified she bought the more expensive items in the store for what she was buying. Great point defense she had extra money because she stole it and the owner wasn’t coming back.
I have never seen as casual a murder trial as this one :) With all these talks about weather, snacks, etc you can almost forget why they are gathered together over there :)
IngaLeo4 the judge has disrespected the victim all over the place imo - in her rush to make sure the jury is comfy cozy not over-worked and fed well- pfft!! Show some deference to the process !!
Good judge in my opinion, making things comfy for everyone. Hence everyone, jury, prosecutor, defense etc can focus on their respective roles and ensure that justice is served.
Do not underestimate this Judge. As nice , as she can be , she will Drop The Hammer faster than you can blink your eyes. Furthermore, this is The South. They do things different down here. Not could and stuffy like the north where NO coffee is offered; no regard for comforts.Ppl will be fortunate to get a bean taco for lunch . Yankee ways.
@@laradesautel9251 She showed deference . Courtrooms do not have to be Draconian !!! A reasonable observer can feel the high regard lawyers , plaintiffs , defendant have for the court decorum. In fact , this Judge politely reminded people to observe ; no facial expressions or rolling of the eyes to show disdain ! To show more respect , witnesses should be wearing a Dress Shirt and tie. The professionals did. Given today's culture , the court is fortunate that witnesses wore dress shirts with open collar.
Rumor has it this dude is still flipping through his notes 🤦🏻♀️ Perhaps the trial wouldn’t take so long if this defense attorney would clean up his act and the judge would stop acting foolish!!! 🤷🏻♀️
I've watched a few cases now and why is it that prosecutions lawyers seem on point and good at their questioning yet defence lawyers seem more ponderous. I don't know whether they feel why bother the evidence is stacked against the client anyway, but even so "everyone" is entitled to a legal defence, and although thankfully I won't be up on a murder charge, I would like to feel my lawyer is at least fighting my corner.
I've done jury duty it is actually freezing and it's hard to die and sir and sir with no caffeine and stay awake. She's actually making it easier for the jury to do is best job for the benefit of the plentiful. thanks
I liked the young detective a lot. He was so young, but he was great and I maybe missed testimony from the older detective? At least In the interrogations I thought they were both awesome!
no brainer...cause her defense is screwing her. did not question the first discoverer (parks guy) what he noticed as the condition of the skull on initial viewing. She has no chance with this defense. So embarrassing. Both old n younger man say " may i have a moment" than ask no further questions.
Right?? Listening to Daddy Beroset bungle through his files/drop cr@p is beyond painful. And his earlier bonus courtroom comment: “I’m not good with numbers or names.” Probably not the most ideal time to hone the comedic skills. Johnny boy had to be thinking something like...uhhh Pops, that was your OUTSIDE voice.
after hearing kyle's mother's testimony about how they kept the property in tiptop condition for a wedding venue and then seeing these actual photos ... wow. even people who want a wedding/reception in a horse barn or mobile home porch wouldn't want this run-down looking place. wow. the barn needed paint badly. everything needed a lot of work.
No kidding. That place was a huge dump! Who would want to get married on a property with a run down trailer and unkept area. Then a poor girl was found dead there. Nope.
I think it's funny Ashley was writing the entire time. There is nothing to write.. she was diverting her attention because she was embarrassed.. so she wanted to look busy
@Steve G She is only asking if the witness is needed to be recalled later. If the witness needs to be recalled she will instruct them about how they need to be available; otherwise they are free to leave the building and go about their lives without concern for having to appear.
Right, so "free" means from any further questions on this call and "completely free" means from any further planned re-calls that the witness should be aware of.
The older defence lawyer can not keep his train of thought. Maybe time to retire. Feel sorry for the Home Depot guy, now knowing he was helping a murderer, unwittingly.
Laura Thompson do too anyone ... evil and just don’t get how she can live with herself ... at all ! Fooled everyone and somewhere in her childhood had to show this side as well! Well bye bye Ashley ! Off to Prison til death !
I can't believe she buried the body on her families farm, why drag them into this. Especially when you're aunt is trying to start a wedding venue business there.
It’s the family’s business.. not the families business. The family owns the business so ‘s shows ownership .. just like this// it’s (this time ‘s is short for it is) the defendant’s family. Who’s family ? Her family. Shows ownership though you can’t own a family it shows that the family of whom we speak is the family that belongs to the defendant or that the defendant belongs to that family. So.. it’s the defendant’s family - not - the defendants family (which would mean there were two or more defendants And who is the family ?? Doesn’t make sense that way, just like - the families business doesn’t make sense because families is a plural noun meaning there are two or more families and not one family who owns a business and it is their business. Ok.. just trying to help explain ‘s versus s .. the first shows possession and the second shows plural, or more than one of something.
@@laradesautel9251 I know some comments can be hard to understand if not written correctly but I think most people would make sense of the one you commented on. I notice the odd grammatical error but I don't feel the need to correct people on it, unlike you, and you didn't even get your grammar correct in the lesson you gave.
Molly Chamberlain yes i guess they couldnt say it in court. But she thought shed be out in 5 years if not convicted this. But her audacity is crazy she is delusional
I haven't watched too many murder trials but this has to be the most heartless one I've watched. No emotion AT ALL from anyone! They breezed right through those photos of the poor girls skeletal remains.
What should they do, stop and give a memorial service? This is not a Dr. Phil show. These people testifying and the listeners are already sucked into Ashley’s deviant world. Give them a break.
@@suestone6156 They removed her body about 6 weeks after her death. The last day Ashley is being interrogated by the police they tell her near the end that a 'search warrant' was being executed on the farm 'right now.' The necklace was located beneath her skeleton and shown in the photos above. I think that was 10/19/17.
@@suestone6156 The witness who did the autopsy said it decayed faster because of the humidity, heat and water/rain, etc that occurs in Florida. the body was not down six feet in a grave.
The FDLE crime analysist was very impressive and I liked the way she addressed each answer directly to the jurors. And I liked the young man from "Home Depot"!👍👍
I’m sure many judges are control freaks, but this one...wow. Obsessed down to the snack tray, the thermostat, the coffeepot. Ten bucks says at some point she has pitched a fit over staplers or paper clips.
I know I’m two years late here but the judge was just trying to being accommodating to the jury. I commend her for trying so hard to make sure the jury was comfortable and taken care of. HOWEVER, it infuriated me watching her try to rush things along so intensely. I understand they “made a promise” to the jury to be completed by a certain date but everyone deserves a fair trial. Not a trial that’s rushed, so everyone can get to their Labor Day plans. I’ve watched many trials and I must say, this judge is not my favorite. She could learn a lot from the judge in the Chandler Halderson case. He was a dream.
Jan Shakleford became a judge because she was a terrible trial attorney. I know her and what you're seeing is her playing for the camera. She's never this polite. She's a horror show.
You know all these people testifying are thinking why am I even here, ALL the evidence points to Ashley, we ALL know she did it LOL. The defense is NOT poking any holes into prosecutors evidence! Mr Martinez looks like he could have played on the Sopranos...I cant help sit here and watch how she nonchalantly checked out at Home Depot while using her victims money to pay for the victims grave accommodations, WOW. Defense attorney "excuse me Home Depot sir, did my client EVER mention once that this concrete was to be used to bury Taylor Wright ?" "NO sir" CASE CLOSED my client is innocent! LMAO I bet this home depot dude is like "that's it I'm never assisting anyone with concrete again" LOL
I bet the judge hates the older defense attorney, he shuffles papers for minutes and minutes before coming up with a question. And the judge wants everyone to hurry it up. He takes forever to ask anything.
They say the ‘eyes are the window to the soul’. The defendant is so obviously guilty just by the devious look in her eyes and how guilty she looks throughout the trial. Plus, I agree about the defense.. He needs to retire. Extremely ineffective. However, he didn’t have much to defend.
This Judge needs to be more professional. This is someone's daughter & mother this is a murder trial not a circus. Worrying about turning the coffee pot off. That could have been said behind closed doors. Taylor's poor family.
You must be an over sensitive Leftie. The courtroom doesn’t have to be all sullen. Some normalcy should be be there for the jury who has to sit through and listen to Ashley’s evil deeds!
She's not performing for the camera. She's doing her job, and you're watching her doing her job because it's your legal right to do so. Her main goal is to keep everything running smoothly for the trial, so that a correct verdict will be found. If the pot was left on, it could have set off a smoke alarm or something and that would have disrupted the trial.
Mlle V. auxiliaire sexuelle I wonder how many times he has been interviewed? When the prosecutor mentioned he’d been interviewed many times, he had a huge smile. I suspect he’s been interviewed A LOT! thank goodness he has a good memory.
1:11:30 "is he free to go? Is he free to go? You are free to go. I thought you'd flash me that smile! You better hurry before they think of something else!" 🤣🤣 loved this! What a sweet handsome young man!
and then she wasted it all on her ignorant felon boy toy. Bought him motorcycles, guns, and a boat. Plus paid a lot of his bills. I don't get it, he was NOT all that!
Could you imagine that? You can make more that 34 thousand per year just working but now she gonna spend her life in prison. Why they make that to themselves?
Someone asked, why is there no DNA in this case? The question should be, "Why is there no DNA left on a body after a corpse is left to decay for 6 weeks, wrapped in plastic and placed under a humid/wet mix of potting soil and concrete, in late Autumn?" Ummmm... that's because DNA degrades rapidly when exposed to heat and moisture for even a few weeks. There is nothing left to sample. Here, the corpse was degraded for almost two months down to bones, and those bones were cooked... with the DNA degrading completely. The murderer, a former police crime scene tech, knew that DNA would degrade under those conditions, and would therefore leave no DNA evidence, if the body were so exposed. Does that help?! --- At least the rest of the evidence was clear, from the video of Ashley's buying of potting soil and concrete, the pings of her (and the victim's) cell phone, the eyewitness testimony of Ashley wanting Taylor Wright killed, the money links, and the false testimony given to the cops during the interrogation.
Exactly!! I just posted a comment on the previous video that circumstantial evidence is still enough to get a conviction. DNA evidence is preferred because you can't argue with DNA, but a lot of people have been convicted on circumstantial evidence alone.
Brassy green hair, too dark lipstick, and frosted eyeshadow with no contrasting mascara and/or eyeliner 🤦🏻♀️. Judge Possum-story needs a serious makeover
Filling her brows in would make a huge difference, but if she feels great then who cares what I think?🤷🏻♀️ I’m sure she would have thoughts about my makeup too.🙃
For context, this trial took place August 26 - 30, 2019. The storm she's talking about is hurricane Dorian, which eventually became a category 5 hurricane and absolutely devastated the Bahamas. So it's not like she's making a big deal about nothing. At this point, nobody knew where it would hit the US and it was a very tense situation. If anything, the trial should have been postponed altogether.
After every trial Ive watched, the same question comes up over and over in my mind. These criminals always get caught because their cell phones literally lead to the crime scene. Ashley of all people should have known this! Dont bring a cell phone with you when committing a crime.
True, but I think her expertise was in crime scene evidence. She was probably not as proficient with detective work, which takes you well away from the scene. If She did this, she actually did a solid job of not leaving physical evidence at the scene. The case against her was built on circumstantial evidence away from the crime scene...gps, Home Depot, testimony, etc. The detectives did a great job investigating this crime. I'm sure she thought if there was no physical evidence at the scene, they had no case.
She only lasted a year. She was from a wealthy family and didn't treat the job seriously I'd say. All these newfangled phones you can't take the batteries out of ,regardless of Aeroplane mode.. they are making murder as a full time occupation too risky for me. Tim F.
She's trying to keep the jury comfortable and happy so that they'll do their jobs. Judges are usually very kind to their jurors. If jurors are resentful or miserable or bored, they might not render the correct verdict. So she works hard to keep things a little light so that people will stay awake.
She is not respected or liked in Pensacola's legal community. I worked in that field, as an investigator for a law firm for many years and never met anyone who had any respect for her.
She’s extremely self-indulgent but trying to come across as otherwise… it’s irritating. If I didn’t pay attention closely I would think this was a trial about SNACKS
I wanna be the jury of this judge to get snacks and hot coffee ] Judge: Do you want more snacks? Me: yes Judge With hot coffee? Me: yes Judge: do you want a blanket with that? Me: yes but not one that makes me..... Judge: YOU MAY ONLY ANSWER WITH YES OR NO ANSWERS!!!! Me: Yes ma'am
Wonder if they are instructed to take notes so that they can argue against anyone's interpretation of the crime, etc when someone makes a movie of this case, writes a book, files a case supporting a cause, etc.
Why this defendant didn’t jump at the chance of a plea deal I’ll never know. The evidence against her is an overwhelming slam dunk. Defence council should have been realistic with her and advised to age a deal.
Not every case is offered "a deal." From what I know, when the Prosecution is having trouble proving their case, but the defendant is guilty, a deal may be offered. In this case, the Prosecution case was so overwhelming that what SHOULD have happened was the defendant pleading guilty from the get-go. At least then, her admitting her guilt (along with her contrition) would have at least begun to heal over this tragedy. But no. Ashley McArthur is a monster. Never showed one bit of emotion during the entire trial and even afterwards, when she was sentenced to life in prison. A monster.
Wouldn’t one know that a random slab of concrete in the woods would be suspicious? Also why did she try to bury the body on her own property? Without the body she could have gotten away with it. Criminals are clearly dumb.
It is an attempt to stop the inevitable slump that occurs in a grave over time - if you lay soil over the top the concrete is not obvious. It was flat ground so nothing should wash out. This woman was an amateur. NJ Mafia could have shown her stuff to keep her out of the JUg. Best thing with a body is to empty out the gut cavity, shackel it in stainless steel chain using proper shackles, not iron wire, and dump it in the ocean in not too deep water so crabs and crayfish will find it. Remove all teeth and dental work first. Every time a winner.
Pretty obvious what her initial idea was. Bury the victim deep enough that she'd be able to THEN concrete over top the body so no dogs could detect it. THEN replace the dirt with some potting soil to make it look halfway decent. And yet she failed, burying a body deep was harder than Ashley thought
her back hurts. But she used one of their vehicles to move the body, I think, so why not use a little digger too? Thanks for explaining the use of concrete, I didn't know. Did the concrete also burn away the flesh so fast?
the concrete is to stop the grave from settling as the body decomposes. A depression in the ground can be suspicious. It won't keep the dogs away. But where would the initial dirt go ? I presume into the lake. ?? or it was just spread all over. The potting mix was presumably to make the grass grow faster over the grave area.
Any time I feel bad about my life, job or day, I like to watch the defense attorney's try this case and all of a sudden I don't feel so bad anymore because I'm not defending a killer and getting my tail handed to me on a platter.
I've watched almost all the uploads regarding this case and I've reached the conclusion that the defense attorneys did not have a game plan at all. They sounded quite half-hearted and unprofessional; like sheer novices.
"Better for the attorneys, and yes, for the jury...." Doesn't mention the woman on trial for her life, as the judge tries to hurry through this so that she doesn't have to walk to her car in the rain on Friday.
One thing I'll admit I'm curious about is that I'm not sure if we'll ever know if someone helped Ashley at least with the disposal that remains. She has documented back problems, several people have said that she has trouble lifting heavy things, she obviously needed help in Home Depot putting the bags in her cart and taking them out to her vehicle, so it surprises me that she was able to unload them at the farm, mix concrete, carry the buckets which are extremely heavy (if you've ever worked with it), and pour it over the body on her own.
@@TM-ly9gy I realize the side-by-side would have helped her carry everything out there, but that doesn't help her get everything to the actual spot she dug, over the fence etc. I feel like at some point, she would have had to have been carrying something really heavy, even if it was only for a short distance, and if she was so incapable of doing that, I am afraid that someone who was an accomplice got away with murder.
@@TM-ly9gy The only thing I can think is that maybe she was just feigning how bad her back problems actually are, which wouldn't surprise me, since she's such a prolific liar. If somebody did help her, and got away with murder, we'll just have to hope that karma catches up with them someday.
I like this judge. She has a calmness about her that’s appealing. Her mannerisms are pleasant and it’s obvious she knows her job well. I realize she has to give explicit instruction, but it’s not uninteresting.
She's a self-centered bully and your whipped by her mind control tactics. Im sure you wouldnt mind if she rattled on about snacks and coffee pots when your life is on the line.
Love Pet please!! Those were either fake tears or for her own damn self guaranteed! No one who did what she did and behaved the way she behaved afterward calling consoling joking and lying her ass off all over town to all who would listen has any empathy or genuine remorse! She is only sad that she lost.. that she wasn’t believed despite the truth because the truth doesn’t matter since she’s decided she was a freaking victim of domestic violence and some sort of survivor. It’s really gross and she doesn’t deserve anyone’s time or attention imo.
Cant believe how quickly the body got stripped down to the skeleton. You get the feeling she would not think twice of murdering again if you happen to get in the way. Seemed very calm going about her gathering of various items.
Ashley had already been found guilty of swindling her family businesses clients. She have been found guilty of embezzling from her family's business too if there hadn't been a mysterious fire that destroyed the paper trail. Her family probably enabled her psychopathy.
What is she writing... her book on how she should have planned to hide the murder better? I swear I don’t know how people think they are going to get away with this... ex cop/detective or not... you gonna have to pay for the life that you take.
I'm a lesbian, but I would still hop on a flight from the UK to America, just to go home depot and see that gorgeous boy! He has such a lovely smile....
This judge should just cancel the trial because all she cares about what's the weather and what she promised the jury. I've never seen anything like this
John Gibbons : Mr. Tipton, I see you wear glasses. Mr. Tipton : Yes I do. John Gibbons : Could you show those glasses to the court, please? Okay, now were you wearing them that day? Mr. Tipton : No. John Gibbons : Uh huh. You see? You were fifty feet away, you made a positive eyewitness identification and-and-and-and-and-and-and YET, you were not wearing your necessary, prescription eye glasses. Mr. Tipton : They're reading glasses.
If Ashley had spent the girl's money, why didn't she just go take out a loan and pay her? This was such a stupid reason to take her life. The family evidently had some money or at least credit. Very poor problem solving skills to say the least.
I feel like Ashley McArthur had two prosecutors, both the prosecutor and her own defense attorney! What an unprepared mess. The guy looks like he's puffing on the ganja too often to be a good lawyer. What was the defense's case?! Wow!
She thought by paying with cash and throwing the recipes away there would be no evidence. . She wasn't that smart even though she worked for a crime division..must have not been very good at her job. Otherwise she would have known there are other ways to find her out..I am just wondering what's going through her mind as she watches the pictures of the body and video of her buying the cement and potting soil..her defense team is no defense at all they are pathetic
The reason ashley is writing so much is because she's taking notes on all the things she did wrong. She went through 3 packages of pens and a pallet of paper.
I really enjoy a judge who has a good balance of keeping a trial running smoothly, be able to give serious warnings, and overall treats the jury with respect and friendship. She's warm, friendly and easy to communicate with. I wish more judges were like her, like Judge Knox and Judge Bruce. Having them seem a bit more human makes it easier to go through a trial which otherwise would be very boring or in some cases very sad and depressing situations.
