This shoe is definitely expensive but I can see why they would go with this price so that they aren't too close to the novablast. But man I feel like a $180 price tag would've been a nice middle ground
Superblast is way to expensive for my liking but seeing what they did here makes me excited for future. Hope they can do something with Nimbus and Cumulus. Maybe its just me but Asics for me has too many different models that work as a daily trainer.
This Superblast sounds like something to keep in our collection going into 2023 Mike... All the best for your California Marathon... We just had our Singapore Standard Chartered Marathon on December 4th
Still using the Novablast 1 for Easy and Long Runs. Was planning to get the Novablast 3 as a replacement but I might holdmoff on that idea and wait for the SuperBlast to drop in the Philippines. Thanks for another informative and quality review!
Unfortunately Asics PH is really slow with releases. We still haven’t seen the new colorway of the Sky+ and Edge+ even if those shoes get sold out really fast. Just imagine, stores only have Novablast 2 and no signs of NB3. So getting these SuperBlast by January 2023 would really be surprising.
@@JeyPsCabero just came from Asics BGC and they have the Matrix green NB3 9.5 US being their largest size (i went 2 weeks ago and they had all sizes for that color) im waiting for the black orange red colorway . They are supposed to get new stock in a week or two (sales man said) but they are not sure what they are getting .
@@davidrosenthal5795true. The asics superblast are some of the best I've ever used.... Just ordered the metaspeed sky plus as my 2md running shoe. I'll just alternate between the 2 but if the sky plus are anything like the superblasts then I'm in for a treat
Its the only one non carbon plate competition shoes with high energy return on the market and the most comfortable on this segment price 👏 the price is reasonable for me
Just finished my first short run in the Superblast. So far so good! One key advantage over Nike is that the Superblast has a removable insole and my Protalus M100 orthotics fit nicely inside. I have been a Nike runner for years but lately have moved away because so many of their lightweight road shoes have the insole glued in, and in my old age I need an orthotic for a sensitive heel.
Try doing low heat with a heat gun or hair dryer for a minute or so to remove an insole that's been stepped and walked in. It should losen the glue for you to remove.
Anyone here remembers Jamison Michael? He was the founder of MAGA - a movement to Make Asics Great Again. And now Asics has found itself and is on top of the game but sadly Jamison is nowhere to be found
I’m also loving the Novablast 3, and last years version was the shoe I ran most in besides the Nike Invincible 1. I have been a subscribed follower for 4-5 years, and really enjoy your honest perspectives, reviews and vlogs. I also appreciate your emphasis on disclosing “where” the reviewed gear comes from, as well as potential bias, like in this case with Asics. When it comes to Nike, I’ve been missing your reviews of the new staples other then Pegasus 39 and Vomero 16, particularly the new Alphafly, Pegasus Turbo, Zoom Fly and Invincible, all of which you previously have reviewed. Is there any reason for that?
A lot of people have already reviewed those shoes, and sometimes we want a new review to come out saying something different when maybe there’s nothing to add. I’ve noticed that too, but on the bright side there are some great reviews here of shoes that other people have just lightly brushed over, and I say lightly brushed over because they haven’t really given them an honest try before writing the review. 25-30 miles isn’t great testing and even for someone who has put a lot of shoes on their feet. There’s nothing special about reviewing shoes that seem to be meh and don’t have a foreseeable upside just because of brand loyalty and I’d rather see a shoe model recognized over a shoe line or a brand, as they have changed so much recently.
Holy moly thats a tall shoe. I wear my Fresh Foam More v3s and feel super tall in them. I wonder what the Superblast feels like :) I really wanna try this shoe. Hoping to add a couple more hundred miles on my new-to-me v3s before I think of any other shoe for the fall/winter. Great review
On first sight of the 'studio' shots my thoughts were: what an odd colour choice, but out in the autumnal backdrop they look great......they've got to look good...I'm so vein 🙂
Wow! Another exciting shoe from Asics entering this new category of super stack height shoes. The price is a bit shocking but I guess it’s all relative to other shoes in this new category such as the Adidas Prime. The Superblast is almost a bargain in comparison which sounds crazy.
@@bluemagic5829 a few months, if the shoe still has a lot of stock. But bear in mind that ASICS still hasn’t discounted their first Metaspeed Sky even after all this time, so depending on how many shoes are produced, there might not be a discount any time soon (although perhaps with Black Friday coming up there’s a small chance). I don’t foresee this selling in mass numbers due to the very high price (considering SC Trainer is 180, and Invincible is often on sale under 150) but if ASICS is your kind of shoe then I suppose that’s the price to pay
ASICS has a 20% off discount program for medical professionals, first responders, military personnels, teachers and students. For regular civilians, we’re out of luck unless there’s a slight chance of promotion going on during the holidays. Another way to save some money is to use credit cards that offer cash back for ASICS.
Many are complaining about the price but seems to me this shoe kinda does everything and leans towards faster miles. How many people buy other “super shoes” that are way over $200 and only lasts 200-300 miles. This shoe could be a cushy fast race shoe that you can also log a lot of miles.
If judging only by the look i would definitely buy one. Mushmelon, or Cantaloupe to be precise, is my favorite fruit. I wonder if Superblast is more close to NB supercomp or prime X from adidas ? Can't wait for a comparison test among these 3 " illegal shoes ".
Some thoughts since there are inevitably numerous comments about price in the comment columns of the reviews of this shoe: This shoe would not be for me-I’ll stick with the NovaBlast3. But first of all, why should the inclusion of a plate or not be necessarily linked to price anymore? Are plates really significant in cost or are we being manipulated because of the past novelty of it which isn’t really a novelty anymore? The point is whether a shoe works great for you and its use case, or not. Regardless, this one is indeed very pricey, but my next point: I recommend everyone who lives where there’s an independent running store (not part of a chain) with a run club look into whether they offer discounts. I have a favorite store in a city we visit several times a year and if I pay cash I not only get their club discount (as a regular and frequent customer over the years) but an additional one. If you get the get to know the owners & staff of such a store, you’re not only supporting brick and mortar indie business, but you get the try on and test the shoe first, and they might also even order it for you in the colorway of your choice. The more expensive the shoe, the more significant the discount as it’s a %. I’m sure not all stores can do this but I bet plenty do. They may also return the shoe for you even after wearing it if it doesn’t work for you.
Looks good but the price is a no go imo. You can get a higher stack Boston 11 which also has carbon rods for long run trainings for $170 and under (on sale). Alternatively you just get a much cheaper novablast. Not sure why they priced it so high.
👀 tempting, but with that price 😬. I will wait if they’re on a good sale like most of the shoes I buy 😆😆. I don’t mind waiting 🤷🏻♂️. Great review as always. Have a great day of travel to NY. Have fun Ko.
I went to my normal running shoe store recently to try on the NovaBlast 3. They told me they didn't carry them because Asics is not popular. Asics is their #6 selling brand. What a shame! NovaBlast 2 is excellent, and I cannot wait to get NovaBlast 3 and SuperBlast. I wanted to try these two shoes along with the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3.
It is an exciting shoe in that it's bridging the gap between max cushion longrun/recovery shoes that are heavier and intended for slower paces and the faster race/workout shoes - an interesting market. I'd personally lean towards just having two different shoes (which would be the same price as these 😂). The cost is just crazy though. A daily trainer reaching the monetary levels of marathon super shoes is ridiculous and a concerning precedent to set.
The disclosures are there for a reason. You are free to think what you want, but I stand by my opinions. Try on the shoe and let me know whether you stand by yours.
@@kofuzi not to disrespect your opinion but what lead me to this opinion is, your statement of Novablast 3 being shoe of the year where many other great shoes are around is exaggerating because there are many people I see bought them and not happy at all due to poor outsole grip. A shoe of the year should be able to handle roads in different conditions.
I got really excited about this shoe.......until I noticed the pricetag 😔 It's a NO for me, not because I couldn't afford it, but because at that price I can get a tried and true shoe, like the endorphine Pro 3 (much cheaper)
I appreciate the overview as always…but that is an absolute brutal price point ☹️. The SC Trainer and Nike Invincible are priced significantly lower. An argument could be made that the Endo Pro 3 has that same level of cush versatility but with superior speed attributes at the same cost.
Why would be wanna be hire by ASICS? He could consult or contract for them while still being able to be free to do whatever he wants and review other shoe brands with his platform
Followup on my Superblast experience=not good:( I am 66 years old, 6ft 2inches and 195 lbs. Big old runner. Was doing an easy run in these shoes, 2nd run with them, and at about 3.5 miles my left hamstring had a strain and I had to walk home. Took a week off and did a 3.7 mile easy run in my regular Hoka Tecton X shoes and no problems. Tried the Superblast again today and had the hamstring strain again. So these shoes basically injure me. A shame because I love the fit and they feel great. I think they are letting my heel drop too far with each stride because the foam is too soft for my weight. I am not dissing the shoe. Wonderful shoe but did not work for me in a big way. I have not had any hamstring issues in probably 30 years and these days I still try and do 3x400 at 5:40ish pace and never any problems, so it is definitely the shoes.
Thanks, KOach! I’m glad you don’t lead with the price for viewer retention purposes 😂. Do you think training in a shoe with no plate is good practice/training so that when you lace up the Sky+ it feels more effortless?
Cumulus, Nimbus, Nimbus Lite, Novablast, Glideride, Magic Speed, and now Superblast. Asics offers too many versatile training shoes that are actually similar to one another.
Some use cases overlap, with each shoe featuring certain elements over others. It’s a good time to be a runner, we have many options suited to individual preferences
Agree. True that this brings more options for everyone, but flooding the market with too many models can also be confusing for most runners. For me this a transversal problem of many brands. For me ASICS used to have more clear view/different levels in their line-up, but now maybe this release came too soon considering the other existent models like Novablast.
I’m looking really hard at buying this shoe 😅 just not 100% sure yet. Will make my decision later this week. I’m certainly open to hear any more pros and cons on it!
Interesting shoe, but even more interesting is the use of a marathon 4 weeks prior to your A race in December. You’re not the only one to do that (like Welch runner). Is this a new trend in training or just happenstance?
$220 for a shoe thats not quite a daily trainer, race shoe, work out shoe, or any specific purpose. I’ve watched your channel for years, Mike, but this video may be the definitive video that shows your association with ASICS has definitely altered your reviews of their shoes over other manufacturers.
Sounds to me it's gonna be rather similar to the NB3, with a firmer feel. But gotta try it on in the stores first of course. All these foams, both the Turbo and Plus, are PEBA based. Of course so are many other shoes, so.... Unfortunately the real test would not only be to try these on in the stores and even running in the them there (best if there is a treadmill lol), sadly that is easier said than done. AHAR+ in the SB is cool, luckily the NB3 has TR version with approx double the AHAR thickness + slightly improved wet traction, which i have tested out before on wet outdoor tiles with dull surfaces no less (asphalt is totally no issue). Probably aimed @ those with the budget and/or elites/pros, the naunces and differences might be very small for the normies. That said, good for ASICS for pushing out products like this, next Xmas season might get a pair on discount! lol
I like the Novablast 3, but not everyday as too much squish over time seems to causes issues with body mechanics (for me personally anyway. ) even more stack sounds awesome at first but I’m noticing the higher I go in stack height, the more odd issues I suddenly develop. Granted shoes will affect runners differently, but I found that do much better overall the closer I stay to a natural lower stack and offset. That being said I think these super blast are getting totally ridiculous, but a home run for the marketing team as I’m sure sooner or later I’ll break down and try a pair… just because…
Ah, just when you start feeling that you have everything you needed or even *wanted*... Tempting but $220 is definitely too much for what seems to be a specialized show. But, heck, the same can be said of the Prime X. Already have the Novablast 3 and the GlideRide 3 so I know what FF Blast+ is like but haven't tried any of the ASISC shoes with the FF Turbo. Intriguing but I'll probably wait for a good while after it's been out before considering it.
THIS IS THE SECOND PAIR OF SHOES I BOUGHT BECAUSE OF YOU. Can you please start providing affiliate links in your vids. I feel guilty not giving you some sort of credit!
I appreciate the sentiment. It’s something I should probably revisit, but I have previously felt uncomfortable deriving commissions from something I’m trying to review
Thank you for the reply. Your videos have saved us viewers hundreds of dollars on wrong shoes and countless hours of researching. As a fellow dad, anyone that saves me time and money is worth appreciating. Affiliate links can also serve as a quick way get the product instead of finding it ourselves. A patreon page might also be a fun way for us thank you for all the educational content you make. All the best!!
An interesting if slightly puzzling shoe to me. It kind of looks like a beefed up Novablast 3 and yet the price has been beefed up massively as well. Are we just going to be paying nearly double for a bit of foam from the Metaspeed Sky+ & Edge+ or maybe the price hike is almost to keep the justification for the price of those racing shoes. Or are we actually paying more for a "better" shoe full stop. I note you mentioned you seem to go for your normal size and yet the Novablast 3 typically runs long for many runners including me. Is this a similar fit to them? Am also thinking the original Sky was the complete reverse and ran rather short so if it is blending both sizing seems a bit hard to be sure.
Another great review! Just curious if I already have Endorphin Speed 3 and Endorphin Pro 3 in my rotation, do you think it's worth getting Superblast? I'm a non elite runner and run 5km each day except Sunday and rainy days. I find Speed and Pro have not been aggressive or poppy enough for me. I want to improve my PB. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated 🙏🏼
It's been difficult for me to get into Asics shoes. Based on what I've seen so far I'll probably just stick to NB and Saucony until the Spring and see what happens.
I’ve felt the same way about NB. I cycle ASICS, Saucony and New Balance. The past two pairs of NB (Beacon and Rebel v2) were disappointing to me l, enough that I’ve decided I won’t buy another pair of NB unless they drastically improve. Had insole problems with Beacon, and durability issues with outsole. The Rebel v2 was OK, but felt flat and unresponsive compared to ASICSs Novablast and Saucony Endorphin Speed.
Im wondering if these would finally let me feel the Asics ‘magic’ so to speak. I’m a 185lb runner or so, and I bottom out in the novablast 2 for some reason. I try to give them multiple chances, but they always just feel soft and squishy with zero pop for me.
Prime X worked for me. Last time i checked the new version is already on sale. 200 lb runner....I have the old version and after running over the summer they are still bouncy. My previous favorite was Novablast but no comparison vs. X
this is so funny. I raced five marathons this year and have run almost 3,000 miles. if you were anywhere close to being correct, I wouldn't be able to do this.
@@kofuzi i never said you couldn't do anything fool. But once you start noticing your knees KILLing you, talk to me .. maybe when you're 60. It's like brushing your teeth. The more you ignore and the less you take care of your teeth the more yellow they get. I've only put running shoes on about 10,000 or more people. But you're the expert bro, you have a youtube. You got this, i'm nobody ;)
ASICS really need to do something about the grip on these shoes... I've got the Novablast 3 and it's VERY poor on wet surfaces. From reading, these Super blasts are no different
I literally ran in snowy slush for 18 miles with 10 of those at marathon pace. I raced a marathon after it had rained so the roads were wet the entire way. and I showed you footage. Some people just don't want to receive information that contradicts the stories they read from some other place on the internet.
I love Asics Gel Kayano, they give breathable shoes just like Hoka Bondi or Arahi. Only for Asics, in Indonesia they dont have size 11.5 or 45.5 or 45 1/3, so for my Gel Kayano I use 12 size and it is a lil bit too long for my feet 😔
I think it depends on what kind of pain in the knees. For example, I can say that I like the Bondi whenever I have what I believe is patellar tendonitis type symptoms. But shoes don’t make that knee pain go away. In my case, PT is what makes the pain go away.
Love the channel, a bit off topic but any recommendations for someone who just had nerve decompression surgery for Morton’s neuroma. I need large toe box, super squishy and a big rocker. I know your not a Dr but your definitely a subject matter expert. Any recommendations? Thanks 🙏
That’s up to you. Prime x is plated, which gives you a propulsive ride. We’ll have to find out when Superblast releases on 12-01 to unprivileged general public. 😅
