This upload reflects upon my experiences preparing for ASIS International's test for the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification. It offers some cursory review about the study resources that were used (CPP Virtual Study, CPP Practice Test, flashcards, etc.) to achieve this professional security management designation and reflections about the test, itself.

I am just starting the process, I have the flash cards, and and the full study material (Books). 28 years in law enforcement, currently command staff with a west coast agency. I liked the idea from one of your other videos that 70 percent of what we need to know, we already know. That will help in study focus.

With your private sector management experience AND a full LE career, you are well suited for a successful exam result. If by saying "Books", you mean the POA, I commend you on making the investment in yourself. The ASIS flash cards repeatedly provide source references to use for clarification. Well on your way.....

@@KevinBrayCPP Thank you, I have found it very difficult to find work outside of Law Enforcement. I have applied to hundreds of security jobs and most never reply, but the rest have been rejection, which is disheartening to say the least. I have decided to try this certification to better my chances, we will see what happens. I am not sure I will try the virtual study group, I have invested a lot already, but I do like the structure aspect of the group study. I'll give that some more thought.

I believe, if I remember correctly, you do not have to go to a testing site to take the test. It can be taken at home, unless I am mistaken.

YES! I forgot to mention this. Go to: www.asisonline.org/globalassets/certification/documents/asis-remote-proctoring-faqs.pdf and the "Remote Testing" video on this page: www.asisonline.org/certification/prepare-for-test-day/ It's a bunch of hoops to jump through, but it can be done.

I appreciate this simple but effective advice. I have decided to pursue this certification, though my management experience is only one year. I would ask if owning my own business as a estimation consultant for physical security would qualify this experience.

There are other certifications that ASIS provide, which would fit your experience. Perhaps you should focus on one of the others, prior to tackling the CPP.

That is a question better answered by ASIS International and, with your level of qualifications, I would agree with the other reply and suggest starting with the APP certification. It looks perfect for you, right now, and would set you up well for a CPP in a few years. Download the ASIS Certification Guide (www.asisonline.org/globalassets/certification/documents/certification-handbook_final.pdf) and go to Page 9, where it describes requirements for the APP. As far as "management experience" is concerned for later achieving the CPP, I took note that they require 3 years of being in a "responsible charge" and not necessarily management. "Responsible charge" is defined on Page 15 and I suggest measuring that definition against what you are doing as a business owner. Can't speak for ASIS on that, but, in my opinion, I am sure owning and running your own business would go toward that definition.
