Is my pigeon unhappy alone? I can't find an aviary or someone to take her/him. (can't release them back into the wild , as it would be cruel) they hunker down into an arrow shape, when I stroke them and puff up their neck ruff feathers.. 🤔I 've had it about six weeks now...

I have an 8 month old male that is extremely bonded to me and attacks my cats and people that get near me. I can't be with him all the time. During the day he is in my aviary with 5 chickens and 8 paired pigeons. He was odd man out. So since I could not find a suitable rescue I decided to let a pair of my pigeons give birth to a companion for him. The baby is. 26 days old, I don't know if it is a boy or girl yet but hoping they will be mates regardless. My male is jealous of it and I have to keep a very close eye on him or he tries to peck the baby. The little baby is so sweet and mellow and my male is all upset. How can I get him to accept the new baby? Is there anything I can do? I still make sure they both get lots of love and affection. Thank you

Thanks for this as always.... What about your view on difficulty in bonding/interacting with pigeon when I have a pair as compared to having just 1 pigeon? I find it very difficult when I had a pair.

Hi, its certainly possible to be friendly with a pigeon couple but it depends very much on their individual temperament. Since theyre often monogamous their instinct would be to dislike 'intruders' but some folks have pigeon couples who are quite chill. You may find a hen would be placid but the male would be mean! A single pigeon would definitely be more amenable to you but it depends on several factors. I hope to cover this topic in ep 10 of my pets series :-)

Please can you help? My much loved male DNA-tested dove has started laying eggs.? I only wanted a male and feel I was deceived when I bought him/her. But I love her. How can I stop or help with egg-laying. 4 in the last month. Does she need supplements? Can I stop it? Will it kill her if she keeps doing this? Will, she get ill.?
