Treason is an act. Not something you can be charged for. The legal charges that are treasonous are generally under the espionage act. Like trumps documents case. He is not changed with Treason but the act is treasonous. Capital punishment is a possibility in extreme cases of sharing documents. The last Americans that were executed for espionage or being treasonous was the couple who sold nuclear secrets to the soviet union.
