I've been flying GA and airliners for years in X-Plane & MSFS but this one has me stumped. I'm really struggling with this plane. Surely they can't have been this twitchy or hard to fly ? I'm having a hard time just taxying let alone take off and landing.
@mrstyles9999
@mrstyles9999 6 месяцев назад
@@paulthurston2883they were. They required such skill in every phase of flight. Pilots of the spitfire have described the flight surfaces as so different from one another as to say. In order to fly the spitfire well, one has to perform an Irish gig on the rudders, arms wrestle the ailerons and gently caress the elevators. They were very twitchy because they were designed that way. They were highly manoeverable. Which made them twitchy and difficult to fly. In terms of ground handling they are very similar to a lot of heavy tail draggers like the p51. They can be difficult because of the high moment of inertia you have to overcome to start a turn

I'm now Spitfire pilot, but have heard from real world pilots that you've got to be really careful on the takeoff roll when you bring the tail up not to bring it too high. From what they were telling me you don't want to bring it right the way up as you might in a lot of tail draggers, but rather just get the tail wheel off the ground, but hold it low, so you've still got a nose up attitude. The reason for this is prop clearance, or rather lack of prop clearance. The spit has very little clearance between the bottom of the prop and the ground, and in a tail high position, when you factor in the travel on the suspension, you can theoretically catch the prop on the ground, hence staying tail low gives you just a little more clearance to reduce that risk. But anyways, great stuff, always love watching your videos!
@cgaviator
@cgaviator Год назад
Makes sense. This model is very tricky in takeoff which I guess must be accurate! Though if the prop hits the ground it bends… I’ve… tested it! 😂
@Streaky100001
@Streaky100001 Год назад
@@cgaviator Yeah, I've flown the flyingiron spit a fair bit myself (the spit literally got me into aviation in the first place, so how could I not??) I have heard the real world spit is pretty lively for anything on the ground. Those who've flown the real thing must have some serious skill! (If anyone wants to sponsor me to go learn to fly the real thing I'll happily confirm that definitively :P) Yeah, I've bent a few props myself..... it's great fun in a computer generated spitfire, but I hate to think what that'd cost if you did that to the real thing. I just know it'd be an eye wateringly expensive repair.

Great video - it's always very interesting to hear a real life fast-jet pilot's views and opinions on such things. Can there be anything more stirring than flying this Spitfire over Chico Mick's Duxford ? It's like being at the last night of the Proms. The latest update's flight model caught me out, however, particularly with the engine torque. It led to a perfect two-point take off - left wheel, left wing tip. " This is where it's won or lost..." I know that feeling, particularly with the Spitfire. Lovely stuff.

I love that it does that, and things like not starting if it's not primed right!

So they changed the flight model then because if not the DCS model and even the IL-2 GB were much closer to reality because when they released this, you could take off with almost no right rudder when the real thing had the rudder trim fully to the right and almost full right rudder to take off. Great starting sound though.
@cgaviator
@cgaviator 5 месяцев назад
True, probably made it easier so it was too difficult for the masses. The blackbird sims Corsair is much harder I find
@matydrum
@matydrum 5 месяцев назад
@@cgaviator modified to right rudder but I have a doubt now, haven't played in a while. A few months, and last time I did I played a few planes that have the torque spinning opposite, like the typhoon with the sabre engine and the griffon spitfires and now I can't remember which one needs left or right. 😅But both need full rudder trim on TO plus almost full rudder opposite the torque to go straight.
@matydrum
@matydrum 5 месяцев назад
@@cgaviatorlooked it up to feel better. 😅It's right for Merlin engines like on the hurricane, p-51,most spitfires, and left for the typhoon and late war griffon engine spitfires.😁 I feel better!
@matydrum
@matydrum 5 месяцев назад
@@cgaviatorCorsair also had a hell of a torque. Pilots who found themselves too low and slow when landing on carriers and tried to correct by applying a lot of power suddenly often flipped the aircraft completely and fell to their death behind the ship a few meters from it!

@@rymdskrotet just 2 engines. You can bind both throttles to a single axis/control. You can also start with the engines running if preferred but they are fairly detailed in the start sequence.

Are you in vr?? and how to get graphics / How to use vr without horrendous lag. How to get people watching too?

This is TrackIR. Graphics are set to High not Ultra. There’s a VR flight simmer channel that may have your answers. You can upload videos to RU-vid or stream it live to any number of platforms (Facebook, twitch etc). I use OBS Studios for recording but it can also stream. My PC specs are at a link in description.
