good instructional video... this will come in handy. I'm currently waiting on the paint to dry on all of my parts before I assemble our shutters. one question for you. did you mill your own shutter stock, or purchase the pre-filled material? I milled ours out of poplar, and found that the process was quite labor intensive when it comes to sanding. if you did buy the pre-filled stuff, how was the surface finish?
Thanks, Robert. I did mill my own shutters out of cherry using the Rockler router bits on a router table. It did consume a lot of time to mill them and the sanding took some time too. But well worth the effort. The router bit left a reasonably smooth surface, so I didn't have to do that much extra sanding.
How did you fasten the stiles and rails? Glue or screws? Your shutter looks great and the assembly tips will help me out a ton I'm sure. I'm looking at making these for 34 windows for out house that is being built now. I'm working on a prototype or proof of concept at the moment before I commit. Thanks.
Nathan, you are building a lot of shutters. I used loose tenon joinery as you can see if you look closely Would probably use Dominoes now that I can. Dowelmax would be a high quality and less expensive solution.
