Marie, I'm with you on the caltrops. I've been fascinated with them since I was in junior high school and first read the book 'Simple Heraldry, Cheerfully Illustrated' by Iain Moncreiffe, who (I believe) was Lord Lyon at the time of its writing. In the section about badges, there is an illustration entitled 'How Drummond Got the Caltrop for his Badge'. It depicts a knight strewing caltrops on the ground, with a very sad-looking horse rearing up with a caltrop in his hoof. While the reality is very sad, it's really a charming little picture. The stop-sticks and similar devices used by the police today owe their inspiration to the caltrop. Jew's harps (or jaw harps). had a strip of springy metal fastened at the top of the loop and stretching past the two arms. This is what made the sound when flicked by a finger. They are still made today. dictionary.onmusic.org/terms/1826-jews_harp They've been around for centuries, if not millennia.

32:00- That piece resembles the bolt (shot) from a Parrott Rifle Circa U.S. Civil War 1860-1865 typically. The cruciform piece of metal could be the upper part of a large tap just before the threads and under where the tap wrench would have attached. Calthrops were also used in WW2 with sharper points to damage tires of vehicles. I read an article where the partisans used them against the Germans. Possibly those could have been used to lame the horses and mules of the German army also, as they used a tremendous amount of horses and mules in WW1 and WW2. (My friends father was a veterinarian in the German Army- Unwillingly. One of those "join & we won't kill you & your family" situations). Good haul. The calthrops are very cool.

Glen and Marie, at 31:04 here in America we have something similar to that and it’s a sewer drain clean out cap. We have a special flat piece of metal with the square hole that removes the cap from the drain in the garage and also outside the house. We use it to remove any clogs in the plumbing pipes that go under the house. So I believe that it is a drain cap.

I think the caltrops are actually iron stars made in the foundries and used to clean the burnt on sand of the castings by putting them in machines that spun round so they rubbed against the castings.

The j*w's ( more like jaw's) harp is still played in Bavaria. I actually have a modern day one. Nothing special. I bought two in Afghanistan in 1972. Sadly I managed to lose both. They would be something special, I suppose, 'cause the form was straight instead of rounded.

i guess you know this, not trying to teach granny how to suck eggs here, but you could prob go back to the factory time and time over, you will likely have an oily industrial dereliction layer down their, the metal will bond together over the century, and form a crusty layer under the mud, against the factory side away from the dredging, obviously our magnets, even our evo1800's havent the weight to sink quick enough into that thick gloupe to grab and crack the lumps off the bottom, before we start to pull in. a few weeks dredging the area with heavy magnets and grapples, then boats floating the lose mud, and youll start getting those out of reach finds against the wall /dock (if you found it) i wouldn't give up on the place if it was local it looked like you were only getting those single light weight geod's that hadn't sank to deep, once you hit that honey hole, and you can start cracking lumps from that bottom layer you will find allsorts,,, see if from the old picks and info if you can find out where the loading crane was sited ... ;-) btw those tick tacks were used on roads and tracks, in early ww1, to slow munition resupply when retreating, but the war obviously became far more static, with no ability to deliver them to disrupt the ammo resupply line on any hard standing . never seen precast moulding like that, but i doubt they produced them for ww2, (though ww2 is my grey area of knowledge, i can imagine them being used to burst troop / resupply TRUCK tyres in ambush area's) so they were likely just those single mud floating geods like the mills plugs, big stuff will be deeper in the mud and encrusted and you will see where it has broken away from the bottom or other things encrusted in that layer.. rounded heavy things sink deep into the mud over time... GL guys
