In the movie "12 Monkeys" they use Piazzolla's music as a soundtrack.

His father bought him a bandoneon when he was 6 years old. He even played with Carlos Gardel, the king of tango in Buenos Aires. He was so good at such a young age that Gardel invited him to play with him but his father wouldn't let him. On that tour that was to be carried out, Gardel's plane crashed and him and the all band died. That "no" from the father allowed us to enjoy Piazzolla

Adios Nonino was the music of the wedding of the King of Holland with Maxima Zorreguieta, she cries because her father was not authorized to attend the ceremony

It's not called Accordion, it's called Bandoneon and it sounds different, I'm glad you heard it, it's a magnificent piece of tango that revolutionized it.

Bandoneon is originally a German instrument, brought here by the immigrants and became one of the centerpieces and trademark of Argentine tango. Piazzolla was a very precocious master bandoneonists, and played for many, many years in the Pichuco Troilo's orchestra. Troilo is possibly the peak of traditional tango bandoneonists. He was to bandoneon what Pugliese (another great monster of traditional tango) was to piano. They had some of the most powerful orchestras from tango's golden age. Piazzola broke apart from traditional tango, which he thought had become stagnated, and stsrted experimenting and opening new ways. He was much reviled, hated by the traditional crowd, they said he wasn't playing or making tangos anymore. I think he gave tango a new deep and texture. There is this whole dancing tango, the tangos you listen to, because their lyrics are powerful pieces of poetry or show a Buenos Aires long gone, which is no more, or even those with powerful social message that can still address present day issues. Piazzolla gave tango a new dimension, a new life. My father and grandfather listened to the old school tango orchestras, my mother preferred Piazzolla, so I grew up listening both (we listened a lot more music than tango! From classical jazz bands to Gershwin, Edith Piaf, Joan Manuel Serrat (catalá singer), Barbara Streisand, etc). I absolutely love Piazzolla, and some of the old school tango too.

Si Buenos Aires fuera una película, esta sería la música de fondo. La escucho siento el ritmo de la ciudad.

Ástor Pantaleón Piazzolla was an Argentine bandoneonist and composer considered one of the most important musicians of the 20th century and one of the most important tango composers in the world. He was born on March 11, 1921, Mar del Plata and died on July 4, 1992, Buenos Aires. From a very young age he grew up in the metropolis of New York, where his father gave him a bandoneon, which he began to play at an early age. He took classes with Alberto Ginastera and won the Fabien Sevitzky Contest, with which he was able to finance a trip to Europe to study harmony, classical and contemporary music with the French composer and conductor Nadia Boulange In his youth he played and performed orchestral arrangements for the bandoneonist, composer and conductor Aníbal Troilo. When he began to make innovations in tango in terms of rhythm, timbre and harmony, he was highly criticized by the tangueros of the «old guard», orthodox in terms of rhythm, melody and orchestration.
