Astyanax (NES) - No Death Walkthrough 

I remember playing this so much as a child but I totally forgot its name and I tried desperately to find the youtube of this game to watch so I hummed the beginning music 0:01 to people so they can help me identify the game but nobody knew what the heck I was humming about. Finally I found this and can be at peace.

This is a classic that never got anywhere near the recognition it deserved.

A very well made game for its time. I remember noone knew about it and I was the only kid playing Astyanax while others where playing Punch Out, Zelda, Super Mario Bros., etc. lol

SPOILERS! I know this story is hokey and clumsily written by today, but I do remember as a kid being really upset when Cutie dies. It was even worse as it took a long time to finish the game and finally learn how it ends and having to relive her death over and over again. Seriously, I wish this game had more popularity. There were a number of NES games that were given novelizations (even bases loaded for crying out loud), and Astyanax really deserved one to fully flesh out the rushed story it got.

i don't know why this game never makes it into the top 10 hardest NES games, i played this ages ago and i still believe its up there in dificulty with Ninja Gaiden, Ghosts & Goblins and also, the music kicks all sorts of ass.

When I was 7 years old me and my best friend spent an entire weekend trying to beat this game. I remember we got to the final level, but no matter how hard we tried (for at least 6 hours) our poor little seven year old selves could not beat the giant golden dragon boss. Now I am here nearly 25 years later to watch that dragon get killed.

I would argue that this is one of the most or THE most underrated NES games of all time. The graphics, the music and the gameplay are 2nd to none, and yet I rarely hear about Astyanax when the NES is discussed.

Unbelievable. Somebody recorded a game movie in one go without deaths. My respect for such an epic playthrough. It was a good way to shake my old bones' memories up. You have my like :)

This game and Battle for Olympus are two games that have haunted my gaming history. I've been able to beat Ghosts and Goblins, but never these two. And man, the soundtrack for this game... best next to Castlevania in terms of 8 bit,

I graduated from Greenview High and have a good friend by the name of Astyanax. He was popular and a pretty cool guy. Hope he's doing OK with all that's going on. Which reminds me I should give him a call.

This game was one of my favs growing up. The lead knight is huge, as are the enemies.

This game had surprisingly good music despite the choppy controls and annoying difficulty.

So glad you posted a walk through. I've been stuck on the level 3 boss for good minute !!! The r'2 boss exactly.I guess I need to slow down , & not berserker.

I remember buying this for my birthday. My older brother was PISSED cause it wasn't a game anybody really knew. I never beat this as a kid so finally i get to see how this ends.

I found this game on a flea market and decided to buy it (after a quick check on ebay that I wouldn't pay too much). Tried it yesterday, couldn't even beat the first level, lol. But I didn't know that you could clear the whole screen from enemies at once. Makes life a bit easier on that jumping part at 5:17, haha.

Its basically an older Legendary Axe game. The TG-16 games by that name built on this exact formula.

The music,story , game everything it's good in this game , I don't no understand why it's not in the top of the line games of Nintendo

I remember I can’t even pass stage 1 when i was a child , but about 10 years ago i managed to watch the ending by abuse save and reload function on pc emulator

I played the hell out of this when I was a kid. Remember it getting very hard at the end. Great game. Wish I got a chance to try the arcade version. p.s. when the enemy blocks your attack, duck and hit his legs.

When i was a kid i got this game and it was called "prince of persia" when i played this i said "hey this isn't the prince of persia i know" then i thought astyanax? Maybe this game is the second game but from japan, you know like how Smb 2 is in japan and we got our own? There both different so i thought that's it and so i played the heck out of it

I played aladdin version of this in my childhood. I was very confused about those creatures which i never saw in aladdin series.

I used to read the text with the music and to be honest lots of parts go along with the tune.

Can anyone say DARK SOULS on NES? I mean god damn, I couldn't even get to through the first stage as a kid. Started replaying it last nite and am currently getting frustrated in the last level with the maze of doors because I kept dying on the skeleton bitches 2nd form and get sent all the way back to the beginning, its bullshit. I was convinced this stage was the end of the game. But no, theres a fucking boss rush mode right after this? FUCK THAT. 4 straight bosses in a row with no health pickups inbetween until the final boss which actually looks like the easiest bossfight in the game. Im not sure how many more times I can go all the way through this maze to get merked at the boss before i give up. thank god for the uploader, because if i cant do it, youtube can.

I played this a lot as a kid and I wish I could play it now I had to look up a list of nes games to find it it's strange but Axelay begins with an A too I had to look up a list of SNES games to find that of course that's when Konami made good games

I feel like I could take this game a bit more seriously if its characters didn't have names like Cutie and Thorndog, though that's part of the charm

Then funcoland appeared and I traded it away before finishing business......forgot the title until I finally found it today.....oh yeah going to buy it and got some unfinished business !!! Ах, да, в третьем этапе после уничтожения первой формы босса - вторая форма просто не видна глазу. Только с помощью супер ударов я смог определить, что игра не зависла и пройти босса.
