I have my ally for about 6 months and never had a problem with it same with even my brother-in law's Ally has no issues.

Why these handhelds ship with one USB-C port baffles me.

I’m disappointed massively if there’s no extra I/0 or USB ports, I want to use it as a portable computer as well as gaming.

The only thing the ally needs to do is to put the biggest battery it can hold in it, make the os more power/battery effecient, no more sdcard troubles and a better screen. The screen I thought was excellent, until you compare it to the switch oled and the steam deck oled. The only problem I had with the ally was the battery life and sdcard issues. Truthfully, Asus was better of making a more powerful handheld instead of just upgrading the battery and moving around the sdcard slot, and thry have the nerve to charge 800 for the same console lol.

Yeah I'm not interested in anything regarding Asus anymore.

This argument is flawed because it generalizes a few negative experiences to everyone. Just because some people had bad experiences with Asus doesn't mean their customer service is universally bad. If I tell you I had a great warranty claim experience, does that suddenly make Asus a great company again? We shouldn't base our opinions on a handful of cases when there are millions of customers who may have had different experiences.

I agree with this 💯, I had the deck and was like "hey I can play a bunch of indie games" the moment I put in BG3 the thing looked horrible. Ally allows me to use Xbox game pass and stream my Xbox while also playing PS5 games via steam. Not to mention the fact that it runs AAA games amazingly. The battery life sucks but I'm always near an outlet so it's not that big of a factor. Perfect to game on when you have kids.

It's fine for things up until the start of the PS4 gen. So about 2013/14 or so. After that it starts to struggle.

@@young-blk-investor1059 I have the Steam Deck OLED, it's not a lie. I can run Horizon Zero Dawn at like 720p low, but it often struggles and stutters. That came out in 2017, so no, my statement is 100% accurate. It's a nice device, but let's not oversell it.

They have already hinted it will have a bigger battery. The Ally non extreme is a complete failure as I've seen them at Sam's Club for $375. I believe they are stopping the production of the non extreme and instead Ally X with more ram and bigger battery will be the second option. From their hints it will at least be a 60 wh battery which will be a little heavier. I agree 100% with you that I want my wireless devices including PC handheld to be wireless while I'm using them.

It won't. The only handheld PC with good battery is the Deck OLED. Otherwise get an Android handheld which offer amazing battery life but you are limited to emulation (yarr!...especially Switch), Android games, and streaming PC games. Don't know if it can stream console games but I don't care about consoles

I mean, if you're on a sofa, you're probably fairly easily able to just use an plug socket. In the kitchen, I doubt you need 3 hours. It's game-dependent.

@@user-ds8rj2vc4v I can understand what you mean but I don’t want to be tethered to the wall to use a portable device or have to go plug it in after every short gaming session. While it is rare that my gaming sessions are more than 30-90mins at a time. I want to be able to move around my house without bringing my charger from room to room. I’d like to be able to take it with me when I take my kids to practice, speech therapy or while I am waiting to pick them from school or other events. In my case, I don’t own or currently play many light weight indie games but I have somewhat of an extensive library of AAA games over the past 10+yrs. If I have to plug it in everywhere I go, that usb port is going to wear out somewhat quickly. I currently use a Nintendo switch oled and it’s 3-4hrs is acceptable but its performance and frame rate leave something to be desired in the more graphically intensive games. Everyone is going to have their preferences with how they want to use their device and that’s ok. My preference is to have a portable device that I can pick up and set down multiple times a day without having to return it to a charger each time that plays AAA game for 3hrs or more. If ASUS can deliver close to the 3hr mark for AAA games with the ally x then I will most likely buy it.

Suspending is a deal breaker for handheld.

You can control things like FPS limit at the OS level, Linux has way, way less overhead than Windows, you don't need to hunt for drivers or updates, and you can sniff the fan.

@@GreaterPhenom hmm the overall compatibility being 100% and then all of the other stores being also available absolutely trump sniffing the exhaust for me. I love using game pass and Fortnite on mine. Don’t get me wrong I have a steam deck too, but as some one who knows how to use computers, the ally smokes it.

@@jaffaman99Biggest issue for me is how poor quality the Asus feels like. The sticks are way to loose, not easily user serviceable, and Asus kind of just sucks at RMA ( Gamers Nexus ). It pretty hit or miss if your unit is good. I’m also super tech savvy and don’t mind thinking with things.

Pretty much every competitive online game or MMO doesn't work on Steam Deck. And it's not just games, lauchers like GOG, Epic, Ubisoft, EA, etc, none of them work on Steam Deck.

@@sophieedel6324 This is false. I've personally have played games from other launchers , GOG and Epic. It's the anti-cheat software that doesn't allow you to play game using Linux so while the games are playable on the Steam Deck but you must duel boot Windows which is a shame since Microsoft recently reveal how much they care about gamers.

At least usb 4 but I think it's not even USB 4. I know usb 4 isn't as good as occulink or thunderbolt but usb4 would've at least provided more options

No you haven't. ChimeraOS is not SteamOS. You don't get features of SteamOS like quick resume from sleep.

@@Unicornpirate I've installed Bazzite and resume works exactly the same as it does on Steam Deck. Same with plugins and every other thing you can do on Deck. Sure it's not "SteamOS" but tomato tomato

Bad Customer Service ≠ Bad Products Sorry buddy. I’ve had devices from companies that people always complain about their customer service (Razer, Scuf) and I have 0 issues with their devices. The small noise of the few won’t do anything. You people are a minority.

Microsoft recently gave gamers the middle finger closing down studios and basically killing Xbox.

Ally was so bad with battery life they had to make this one to compensate because running AAA games your lucky to get an hour, they moved the SD Card so the thing doesn't fry itself and enjoy the extremely crappy support where Asus will hold your device hostage until you pay stupid amounts of money, and if you don't expect to get a box of scraps back to so you can assemble it yourself, plus no trackpads, no sale from me. So I'd rather stick with Valve because at least their support is good.

Yes if you increase performance, outperforming the Steam Deck, it will use more battery, faster CPU and GPU use more wattage, duuuuh. Why are you Steam Deck users such simpletons.

@@sophieedel6324 One of the main complaint of the Steam Deck from the beginning is it's terrible battery life. The fact you admit it's the same means you agree with Steam Deck owners. Valve listened and greatly improved the battery life with the OLED Deck. Also note the LCD Deck running at 15 TDP is not efficient just like Ally at 25 tdp on battery. Set the tdp to 10-12 improves the battery life over the Ally with little performance loss (often less than 10%). Thus is practice the LCD Deck battery still last longer while the ally performance drops hard lower than 15 tdp.

I feel the same way of Ally fans bashing laptops which can outperform the Ally. Even my 7 year old laptop can outperform the ally in the majority of games. Ally fans tells me laptop weighs a ton , I can't play games in bed on a laptop which I've done for years before the Ally or the Steam Deck. I have to explain to Ally fans I don't have to have my laptop actually in my lap to game on it.

Valve pave the way for PC handhelds like the Ally to be released at which price point needed to be reach. Asus was no doubt looking to get into the handheld market but Valve reveal there was a market for PC handhelds if you can get the price low enough.

I feel the same with jealous Ally owners trashing laptops as if they weighs a ton, not portable , they claim you can't game in bed on a laptop which I've done for years. Even my 7 year old laptop can outperform the Ally in the majority of games.

not just the ROG Ally that is better than steamdeck, all windows handheld are better than steamdeck... so instead of being a fanboy in one brand, try to keep sceptical instead, no brand is offering the "best" experience. The GN drama wasn't a fluke either, thousands of Asus product user are getting dissapointed, actually the Real User experienced it, not the fanboy... so if you're having a great time with the product, good on you. Because other users are having issues whether it's on sofware or hardware level
