For those of you familiar with a guy called Buildzoid, he gives an excellent breakdown and analysis of the power stages and VRM design of this board. I decided to buy this board just because the VRMs and other components were considered "overkill", and simply will not overheat if you know what you are doing. His channel is Actually Hardcore Overclocking but the video was done over at Gamer Nexus: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A4PEgofGfz4.html p.s. Don't mean to step on the toes of Level1Techs. Just thought I'd add in how much this board seems to be appreciated by the tech and/or OC community. But yes, it's really expensive!

I have this board, and everything runs smooth and stable. I'm very happy with it, super easy overclocking. It doesn't support my crappy designated RAM speed though (GSkill CL16 3200 4x8 32GB), but that's more on me for not doing enough compatibility research.
@SohamMondal
@SohamMondal 6 лет назад
Hethos Deus what speed are you able to run the ram at?
@hethosdeus3504
@hethosdeus3504 6 лет назад
I can get them to run 2933 without issues. Anything higher at least with XMP profiles and up to 1.45V has been unstable. I haven't tried to manually tweak timings. These sticks from what I understand are Hynix M-dies.
@leexgx
@leexgx 6 лет назад
same with my corsair LPX 3200 ram can only get 2933 (my mistake with getting that ram)
@Numenor76
@Numenor76 6 лет назад
Does that mean that something like G.SKILL F4-3200C16D-16GTZRX 16GB would be a better option, or perhaps a G.Skill Flare X 16GB DDR4-3200MHz (F4-3200C14D-16GFX) ?

Nice belated review. My ASUS X470 Crosshair VII Hero Wi-Fi and Ryzen 2700X arrived on the 19th April 2018. Running at Stock but very happy with this systems performance, found no real notable gains from overclocking CPU, I'm also able to get another 166MHZ out of RAM but does not really improve performance much. I mainly use my system for running a few VMs, compiling code, general use such as browsing and some casual gaming. I have two Nvme Samsung 950 Pro SSDs installed for the Windows 10 Pro System and 4TB Raid 1 spinning rust for data. Videocard ASUS GTX 1070 Strix RAM 3000Mhz LPX Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) Memory Would have liked 32GB but memory prices are insane in Oz. Corsair RM750i PSU. All mounted in a ThermalTake Core P3 White Case. I'm very happy with this system which replaced my ASRock Taichi X99 6800K system with almost similar performance but it was time for a change ;-) and a slight boost in performance with extra features such as an upgrade path until 2020. Thanks AMD & ASUS for the smooth ride. Running a Stock with no overclocking my system has been as stable as a rock (after updating the BIOS, which I did on the first day of use lol).

REA Electric I have this board on a 2700X too. Same ram as you as well. I have been running on stock too but I am not comfortable with the stock vcore. I have been getting about 1.4V and it is taking its toll on temps (lucky it is watercooled). What voltage do you get? I have been thinking of working out a negative offset for the vcore but every time I try I get post error :s
@RoyAntaw
@RoyAntaw 6 лет назад
I would like to upgrade to higher speed RAM (Samsung B die) but the price is just too high and Corsair LPX Hynix RAM at 3000MHZ is fine, this run at 3166Mhz without changing the timings. Not really a fan of Steve's videos from Hardware Unboxed.
@RoyAntaw
@RoyAntaw 6 лет назад
No your pricing is way too high. I paid $469.00 AUD which is around $348 USD and I have seen them listed as low as $449 AUD ($333 USD) Running multiple Virtual Machines so more memory the better, I'm not a gamer ;-) Dual PCIx4 Nvme Drives with RAID support worth every cent..
@RoyAntaw
@RoyAntaw 6 лет назад
WHY? Dual PCIex4 Nvme Drives with RAID support worth every cent.. More memory the better for VM.s. NO OC required for 2700X performance and Stability is more important than pure clock speed.

caRn He literally just said it was for the PCIe X4 lanes. It is the only X470 board to have 2 slots native gen3. Good for raid0. Wendell discusses this in the video. I would like some B-die memory modules as well but at the moment just using my old DDR4 cannot justify the current price of DDR4 it is absolutely insane.

Ali Irtaza Bhatti what made you do not choose a X570 for that cpu? I’m asking cause I just bought a gigabyte X570 aorus pro WiFi, and I’m thinking to exchange for that ASUS x470, the difference in price for me is going to be only $17 dollars, does it still make sense? Ps: I’m NOT going to use PCIe 4.0 m.2. Thanks

I have got the Crosshair 7 with a 3900x. It's a perfect match. Extremely stable. The most recent bios Asus released back in Dec of 2019, is pretty darned solid. If you enjoy a good time overclocking, this is the board you want. Every parameter is adjustable. The VRM's are more than stable enough to tolerate LN2 with out breaking a sweat. Right now Micro Center has them for 220$.

Really happy with this board. i was able to get my 2700X to 4.3Ghz, at 1.35v stable. Oh, and forgot to mention, only with SMT disabled. its strictly a gaming rig, so i really dont need the 16 threads. battlefield 1 really puts the 8 cores to work man! great video man!

Wanting to drop a Ryzen 9 3900X into this board. Sacrificing some X570 features, but PCI 3.0 is more than enough to drive all of the components the board will use for ~8 years.

A happy owner here and so far so good. I run it with a Ryzen 1700 OCed to 3.736Ghz @ 1.237v. 24h+ Prime95 stable. I didn't take any chances with RAM and got G.Skill FlareX 3200Mhz CL14. I haven't OCed the RAM and the stock frequency seems to be 100% stable. 3600Mhz would give me a rounding error in Prime95. However, games and general OS tasks would run OK. Maybe I have to tweak it a little more, I just raised the voltage to 1.45v. I would definitely recommend getting AMD compatible RAM and FlareX Samsung B-side seems to be a very safe bet. I would go as far as to saying that most stability issues will be RAM related. VRMs on this MB are an absolute overkill for any Zen / Zen+ Ryzen and that makes one wonder whether this board was designed with possibly more power hungry higher core count Ryzen 2 CPUs in mind? AMD has made a commitment to keep AM4 alive at least until 2020 so I'm hoping to be able to hold on to this board with the next gen AMD CPUs. The next thing to test is StoreMI. For storage, I use Optane 900p 280GB (M.2). The issue here is the weird capacity as the free version supports only 256GB for the fast tier. I talked to Enmotus and was told that I would have to install the OS on the slow tier first otherwise StoreMI wouldn't be able to transform the drive so be careful if your NVMe drive is over that limit. No such limitation with the paid FuzeDrive Plus but backup is a must! Also, the free version doesn't support pinning (to be able to keep selected data always in the fast tier) but neither does the paid Plus. But they're planning a Premium version with this feature. My advice with StoreMI is to wait. I've also read a few stories about data being corrupted so the whole thing is either sensitive to how you set it up or generally unstable.

I have this board and while I am satisfied with good stuff, no one has mentioned the problems. First one is EXTREMELY SENSITIVE pressure sensor somewhere around cpu socket - if you screw your water cooler a bit more, board will become unusable. It will show dreaded error 8 and at that point you will have to return it. That happened to some people and me as well. Second problem are sound drivers - if you are listening to music while changing some of the sound settings, sound apps will crash. Last software problem is half-stable ASUS Grid - sometimes it won’t find drivers at all, sometimes it will find newer versions, but it wouldn’t want to update them. Everything is mostly good, but the bad stuff is extremely annoying.

I have my mind made up for this MB after days of research, the CPU of choice will be a 6 Core Ryzen 5 3rd Gen or the Ryzen 8 Core 3900x. The PSU will be a DeepCool DQ750m. Im only a bit uncertain about the RAM of choice since this MB uses Daisy-Topology, not sure on that one though. I read that the T- Topology in the C7H was actually faded out, whatever that means ? From my understanding it depends on the CPU, 3rd. Gen are daisies. :) Can somebody help out which RAM is best, for Gaming with high frequencies and which for the ECC side although not really needed with DDR4? Thatll be awesome!

I been trying to figure out some freezing issues with this board. To this point i have tested all from my SSD and HD also graphics card memory mostly all i can think off to test. I have even reinstall my windows 10 pro 3 times to check if is a issue with windows. The problem i get is a freeze that will last 8 to 9 seconds before going back to normal. At this freezing point my monitor and all will freeze and can't do nothing till the freeze stop. I notice the hard disk led (hd _led) light will stay on solid till the freeze ends then goes back to normal blinking. I try all to try to determined the issue but nothing has work. At this point i don't know if is the board or hd or ssd which i know it can't be cause i have tested them and all has come out okay. This is a great board i just wish mine didn't have this issues when i bought it. The computer i build is a brand new build just build it at the ends of june of this year and been using it since then. It seems like a lot of people are having issues with the wifi version. but then again I dunno why spend more money on the wifi version. You can just buy the normal version and then just buy a cheap wifi module connected via usb that does not need drivers. Also, Team Group's Dark Pro series of Memory that uses Samsung B-Die (Rare nowadays) seems to be very compatible with Ryzen and easily gets 3200MHz at CL 14, 3466 at CL16, 3866 at CL18 if my memory serves me right. Just search : Team Group Dark Pro 8Pack edition 3200MHz CL 14 and you will see all of his Ram modules that utilizes the very rare Samsung B-Die Memory which apparently is the best memory you can ever find/use versus other Memory manufactures like Hynix etc. But then again, 16GB of said ram cost £218 lol £199 with the discount that they had 3 days ago.

Can this board underclock Noctua fans? I run my NF-F12 at about 130RPM with a Gigabyte board. Is that possible with this one? The Gigabyte board is a bit buggy on this, and the underclock only works, after a calibration using the windows fan tool provided by Gigabyte. After that, all that is needed is to the bios. But can Asus do the same?

@mtvillongco
@mtvillongco 4 года назад
Just did the same as well for $180, still worth it today. I'm keeping mine because by the time PCIe 4.0 is widespread, AMD will have moved on from the AM4 socket and I'd need a new motherboard regardless. GPUs aren't close to saturating PCIe 3.0 x16. For some reason people on the internet are misinformed regarding the addition of a second NVME SSD (FYI the bottom slot is the primary slot and the heatsink can be transferred). As the video mentions the second NVME slot will run at PCIe 3.0 x4, however the drop in bandwidth occurs with the second PCIe x16 slot, not the first one. This is stated in the manual (RTFM folks). This would affect dual GPU users as with only one NVME SSD the GPUs would run at 8x/8x, then at 8x/4x with a second NVME SSD. For single GPU users, the first PCIe x16 slot would still run at PCIe 3.0 x16.

Sean Broodryk what do you think about 2600 and an 1060 instead? You probably don't need more than 12 cores on average, and in gaming like barely any difference in 2600 over clocked VS 2700x over clocked, but 1050 and 1060 sure

It might need a BIOS update depending of how old the version you are buying is. Though it is rather easy to update this motherboard with a USB stick without having a compatible CPU with the BIOS Flashback feature.

Need building advice! I’m an artist that will be doing both 4k video and 3D rendering. I know the best stuff is going to give me the best performance but I don’t know if anything would be considered overkill. I will be using Maya, Adobe Suite, and Unity mostly.

It depends how far you want to push it. If you think a card or two will be enough rendering power or a 16 core CPU enough CPU grunt then I think this is the finest board you'll come across for hammering it 24/7. But the people I know that do GPU rendering in 3D software are all using boards a step up from this that allow many GPU's to be strapped to them but the power supply and cooling requirements start to become scary expensive. Not advisable if the rendering PC is in the same room you live and work but in the sub couple of grand range I don't think there's better than this. One guy I know uses the server board for threadripper with 4 1080Ti's and a massive power/cooling rig that sounds like a fighter jet coming into land plus another PC with 3 GPU's. He says the heat is not tolerable. So you'd need some kind of super air conditioning for that much heat getting pumped into a room that fast. I use 1 GPU and have no issues lol As an aside there's also the benefit that you get two NVME slots so you can have one for OS and one for StoreMI. Say you have a 4/6/10TB texture/model/project drive. You can use StoreMI to to devote an NVME drive to accelerating that slow mechanical drive so it feels like an SSD. Not going to work if you're throwing 4K video around in multiple clips all trying to work in real-time but for most everything else its kind of a miracle solution to getting massive amounts of very fast storage on the cheap. but you get that with any X470 board so don't specifically need this one for that feature. Just mentioning it because its been so awesome for my own 3D work. Huge projects just blip into the software I'm using now.
@ClayMann
@ClayMann 6 лет назад
el 01 if you want to do GPU rendering. Id suggest not recommending someone buys one GPU. Its torture trying to work on a real-time rendering scene when the UI itself is being drawn by the GPU you're also torturing to death to render the scene. You need 2 GPU's minimum or you can sly around it with 1 good GPU and onboard graphics to drive the UI but that comes with lots of caveats
@ClayMann
@ClayMann 6 лет назад
SLI is not used when you're GPU rendering with 3D software. Realistically it isn't fine using 1 GPU. It's like saying dual core is fine for gaming. You can do it but its not what you want to aim for.

Doing Maya, Adobe Suit and Unity and still on x470? I'd recommend you go on a Ryzen Threadripper, I'd recommend the 12 core 1920x, but if you can afford, go with 1950x, or if you have the patience, wait for the shelves release of Threadripper 2. Get fast ECC memory (2933 or faster), get 2 GPUs, one for your normal activity (if you don't do anything insane in your normal time, you can cheap out on something easier on your budget, like a GTX 1050 or RX 560) and one high-end for the rendering, like a 1080Ti, or if you can afford a Titan V (you really need CUDA for Maya and Adobe, not sure about Unity, but you still need CUDA). Since you are going to hammer the CPU quite a lot, I recommend you get a Noctua 120mm fan, don't get a watercooler if you will run the PC at full load most of the time without rest. Wendell did a nice testing with a saturated AIO vs Noctua coolers on TR, I think it's called "Noctua coolers for Threadripper". By going with TR instead of Ryzen 2, you get the benefit of more PCIe and you can get lots of benefits from more PCIe (like running both GPUs in x16 and still have enough lanes for NVME RAID and another NVME SSD for caching your spinning rust). Bonus: if you wait for Ryzen TR2, you might get StoreMI with the new motherboard refreshes (x499?), which could help you with big files on the spinning rust. If you still want to stay on x470 and don't *reap* the benefits of *Threadripper* (pun intended), this motherboard is assured to be future-proof, especially that AMD doesn't make old chipsets incompatible with new CPUs. What I said up still applies to Ryzen 2, minus the benefits of PCIe and no waiting time + some more cheaping out on CPU and mobo.
