@@speedyg2012 I think overall I prefer a pop up camera. I like the idea of the flip out camera, but im not sold on the real world use, also I fear that it could get snapped off or be open on a table and not be able to close.

The "selling point" of this phone isn't the camera's pictures. It's selling point is having a screen without a notch/holepunch etc...

To be fair the camera on the ZenFone 7pro did win the coveted camera of the year award on MKBHD's channel so it's a little difficult to agree it's a below average camera.

But to be fair the 8 Flip is NOT a direct successor to the 7 Pro either.. It's more a successor to the 7 but with a flip camera. So maybe the 8 Pro is coming later. And it IS a little velow average. I saw that test and tried it compared to a few others as well.. And I can woth no doubt say that ZenPhone 7 Pro did NOT have the best camera. It's only in some scenarios ot CAN give a better result. Everyone I showed the pictures and videos to agreed as well.

I have the Zenphone 7 Pro and I can totally agree with that except night time video and photos! I've had to add Gcam to make some improvements!

What I love about the Zenfone 8 Flip is that it HAS MicroSD along with an Snapdragon 888 what with this gen is pretty rare, I would heavily love if the Zenfone 8 would have as well (and I don’t see any reason why ROG phones don’t have it)

Don't mean to burst your bubble, but the Zenfone 7 Pro is definitely a better buy than the 8 Flip. The OIS is a real deal breaker in my opinion. Other than that it's basically a carbon copy aside from the newer chip and whatever upgrade they made to the hinge. I think the 7 series had a way better color as well, but to each their own. The Flip is still good, but I think you should look into the 7 series honestly if $200+ means anything to you Edit: Unless you meant the normal 8 lmao then yeah sounds like a good idea haha

I love how Asus gives their phones a charge limit feature. I wish this was standard on all android phones running android 10 and higher.

I own ZenFone 7 pro, first the os is very fluid just like google phones, the camera are very good let's not forget this phone won mb blind test. The icon you can change in ZenFone 7 pro . Cons the phone is big, heavy, and the buton on camera when you take picture and you have kids is slow ....

Most phones are fluid today. The button? You mean shutter lag? There is no "sport" mode etc for faster shutter speed for those scenarios that can help?

I was keen on this especially with the Sony lenses and actually being available (now) in Australia where most other great phones aren’t. We’re a land of Samsung and iPhone and I don’t want either. Shame about the missing stabilisation, cause that’s no from me ASUS…you shoulda put it in.

I'm so disappointed and sad... The compact ZenFone 8 could have been the perfect device. Only 3 things are missing: 1. Flip Up Camera 2. Support for GrapheneOS and CalyxOS 3. Removable battery Everything else is perfect... - It's compact - Has a headphone Jack - Expandable storage - Under screen Fingerprint scanner - A flat screen without curves I really hope ASUS will do better next time, they missed out on launching the best phone for consumers...

It's almost a ZenPhone 7 in a ZenPhone 7 Pro case with a new screen. Rather wait to see if there comes a 8 Pro model that would actually be a direct follow up to the 7 Pro.

Better soft like true photos looks than oversharpening in almost every other new phones even from 4 years back .

Rather correct true to life photos than too soft unrealistic ones.. These don't look realistic at all since several was way to soft. That is not what we see in reality. In reality we see things sharper. But yes, some phones oversharpen a bit. But far from "almost everyone".

Uhm.. Well.. If it's for the camera you rather take the old model with OIS. Or just a phone with a better camera. But if it is for just watching YT then it's just dumb.

@@TechDunk Yeah, with just software EIS stabilization.. I would rather have OIS and in best case don't even have to use the EIS. In my experience almost all EIS does more or less somwthing weird sometimes with stability and judder si I prefer to not use it if I don't have to. OIS is just better. And FYI: The 8 Flip is NOT a direct follow up to the 7 Pro either.. That's probably why it lacks OIS. The Pro model maybe is coming later this year🤷‍♂️

Finally one reviewer said it. There's absolutely no reason to pick this up over the zenfone 7/7pro. I had my hopes up when the ROG5 brought back the 3.5mm jack with a DAC. The zenfone 8 flip is a huge disappointment with no OIS and no 3.5mm jack and a higher price.

Yeah.. But this is NOT a direct follow up to the 7 Pro either... The 8 Flip is more of a follow up to the 7 (non Pro) model with an added flip. The 8 Pro might come later🤷‍♂️

Same, it even has android 11, might even support the future upgrades. Also, if you feel that 6z lacks the optical zoom lens, you can get a quality optical 2x using the GCam apk. It just uses the full 48mpx to make a 12mpx 2x zoom, while the original camera app uses 12mpx from the start.

Ehh bit of a pity. Asus almost gets it right. Love the flip camera it's a great idea paired with (finally!) super amoled is almost a must buy combo- but not that amazing, no image stabilization camera and high price (I got my awesome Oppo Reno 2 for about 300£..) makes it most likely a pass/ waiting for the next Flip thing.

You mean the glass has a "2,5D" curve at the edges and not the display itself...? A little funny to think about ZenUI is kinda good now while it was a pile of crap awhile back😝 But it's not a negative thing that the display tops out at 90Hz.. Everything over 60Hz is useless on a phone unless you game. Yeah, It's smoother to scroll text etc but who reads while they scroll thru the text anyway?😅 I preffer battery life over more Hz. And if it has a hugher refresh rate then it MUST be adaptive (like on i.e Galaxy Note 20 etc) for me to even consider using a higher than 60Hz setting.

Gsmarena says it has an sd card, which i would expect given its basically a renamed zenfone 7. The zenfone 8 (non flip) doesn't have one though

ALL lithium batteries starts to get a noticable lower lifetime/health after about 400-500 charge cycles.. One full charge cycle is from 0-100%. So if you charge 2 times from 50-100% that is still just one full charge cycle. So after years I would expect the battery to drop faster and faster. That is 100% normal😉 Get a new battery. Or if the phone actually is "years" old then it's time to get a new one👌 Oh, and btw: Apple also did (or still do?) decrease the phones performance when battery health started to noticably drop to try and save battery and make you buy a new phone or atleast make a battery swap in their own stores. But why do you even ask a iPhone question on a Android channel annyway?🤷‍♂️😅

The problem with this phone is movable parts. That flip camera is probably what's going to break first. That's why Sonys way is better.

review of gadgetmatch is more constructive and surprisingly their camera take wd d zenfone flip can do toe to toe wd d iPhone 12 (mini i think) 👍 they showed side by side sample photos of both phones and that infinitely gives viewers a better perspective than this kinda rushed type take 🤔

SIde by side comparisons are so gimmicky. I'm not a graphics pro and I don't think any one set of photos can be objective enough and show enough difference. Take all reviews with a grain of salt but if everyone agrees a camera sucks, it probably does.

You can get 1tb sd cards for not too much (a lot less than a phone with 1tb internal anyway)

Uhm.. Yeah.. So the thing is that there excist something called SD cards.. Heard of them? I would rather save money on having 256GB internal for my camera (atleast the videos) files and apps and then just have everything else on a 512GB ++ memory card. And what do you mean 3 sim slots? There are just 2 sim slots.. The third slot is dedicated for an SD card..🤦‍♂️

Not if it wont work with the different lenses and modes as it should. That's the biggest problem with nom-stock apps. A better lens and sensor over a mediocre camera setup and relying on google software trickery any day. That always gives even better results.

@@Oystein87 zf7 has a working gcam version www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/p/gcam-asus-zenfone-7/ so zf8 will proly most likely have its gcam 👍 as for d output quality, gcam vastly improves over any stock cam softwares in photo mode. however, on video mode, stock cam sw usually are better.

If you have to modify the gcam app to make it work properly with this setup then the whole point of getting the phone would me gone for 99,9% of users...🤦‍♂️ Gcam can also wastly reduce the quality when it does not work properly with another calera setup so it can go both ways. I would rather take a better setup with less need for software tricks any day over a system that almost fully relies on software tricks to even give decent results from cheap hardware😉
