Man it looks like this shows was really awesome. I love how energetic and outgoing Tompa is! He just never stopped trying to get the crowd to go crazy and hyping them up, I love it! Hopefully one day I'll get to see them live :D I also liked how he sang together with the guitarist in The Book of Sand :D
2014 album is their best work by far! Saw them live in 1994 in Europe with Napalm Death tour... can’t believe 19 years later they recorded their best album! At War With Reality is 97% art and 95% pure metal... that’s a score of over 180% on my SCALE OF METAL... Peace ✌️
Yeah. I just listened to War With Reality yesterday, was great. I'd put it up there with Terminal Spirit Disease. Didn't realize there were 2 more albums since SOTS. The song Head of the Hydra was pretty sweet
I was never interested in At The Gates until I saw them at Sweden Rock Festical 2019. When they played To Drink From The Night Itself I was HOOKED! That is a REALLY good song!

Hell yeah man, I was there too! Of course Morbid Angel was the headliner, there was a lot of jocks there lmao!! ATG was godly AF, so was DIssection! Thirsty Whale was so damn small, but damn did it ever have the best shows back in the day!!
saw at the gates live with behemoth in november 24th 2018, amazing and then i saw them with amon amarth in 2019 October, absolutely fuckign amazing with both headliners, glad i got to see those bands before the pandemic, now i await opeth december 1st
Alf Svensson poured his heart and soul into those early releases, very experimental. Anders Björler especially is very much guilty of dismissing those early records as “immature” or “typical death metal” which I call BS because even at the time they sounded like no other metal band. I love SOTS and their current efforts but its by no means original or unique, they just reverted to adding more Hardcore/Thrash influences.
I don't get the voice thing people have. Saw them live twice in the last year, with Behemoth and with Amon Ameroth. Both times they were great and the vocals were on point. I didn't see them back in '95 but keep in mind recorded live tracks never sound like you are actually there. They are a force to be reckoned with live still.
Sick show! Tomas Lindberg sounds as wild & insane as he did in 1995. BUT, he needs to buy a better belt - so he doesn't have to keep lifting his pants up a bit every 2 minutes! Not the most "metal" of stage movements. ;)
Live sound engineer here (in no way affiliated with At the Gates though) so I'll weigh in and hopefully clear up what's *probably* going on. More than likely what happened is they took a feed directly from the Front-Of-House desk, so what we're hearing here is what's coming straight out of the desk before the PA is factored in. Most FOH engineers will "tune the room", which basically means they'll play some music they're familiar with and equalize everything so that we get to a flat starting point. When you don't play in the same room on the same system regularly, it's a great way to get to a neutral starting ground without having to mix everything from scratch night after night. As a result, since every PA, console, room, and mic has its own influence on the overall sound (not to mention humidity's effect on soundwaves), removing pieces of the signal chain can cause things to sound off. In this case, you're getting a feed directly off the board with the processing the engineer did to normalize his listening environment without any of the characteristics of the room or PA involved. If I were to guess, things were a little muddy so he had to remove a little bit of the low-to-mid midrange frequencies to compensate (if you listen carefully, you can hear at certain points that the lower, growly portion of his vocal IS there - it's just significantly quieter in relation). And that's not even considering RU-vid's compression algorithms, which in and of itself can definitely affect a mix as well. Very normal for things to sound completely different on recordings of shows then how the show actually sounded at the show - I can attest that they sounded much different when I caught them elsewhere on this same tour! Their mix is on point live, his vocal sounds absolutely BRUTAL and they definitely still have it as a band!
Not as good as anything on At War With Reality album! On To Drink album and song they tried to follow up on that sound... if you heard that album first this will make a lot of sense! That album they did after 19 years of absence

This band will always remain legends, I always thought the vocals were the weak link and now they are even worse. However the rest of the music especially from the 90' with Slaughter of the soul is the father of Melodic Death for me. As a whole I think when they broke up and The Haunted released their debut album (self titled) I got what I wanted , better vocals and still some of that "At The Gates sound". That was also a killer album with at least the drummer and bassist from At The Gates on it =)

that is false and true at the same time. just depends how you growl. Inhale vocals are dangerous the lead singer of Lamb of god use to do them but its dangerous so now all he does is exhale vocals which btw still sound great. Just depends how they sing.
Wow the audio just sucks!! What a horrible sounding concert. Listen to the Wacken concert which just so much better. It just struck me how empty this sounds.
At the 25 minute time line there is some voice talking about God this and God that. Lately I'm getting so bored with the hate for God bands and such... I was enjoying this band but after hearing another rant about how horrible God is it simply bummed me out. Na, I'm not a Christian and am a metal head but I also am simply tired hearing about how great Satan. Nobody even really knows what right or wrong is anymore. I'd be more concerned about Bill Gates wanting to reduce the population and how all manking rights may be taken away or the beginnings of Marshall Law. ALL LOCAL NEWS ARE BS AND PEOPLE DONT PUT EFFORT ON LEARNING ABOUT HOW TRUE EVIL PEOPLE LIKE BILL GATES ARE RISING TO WORLD CONTROL IS TAKING PLACE AS OF THIS MOMENT. And yeah, I heard the rest of the fkng band till the end. heavy but enough with the BS about Satan sht.
That is a quote from a book (Héroes y tumbas, Ernesto Sabato) all the songs in that album refer to different books, mainly from latin american writers. This specific quote is not worshiping satan or something, it just to criticize some of the God's atributes. There is a big difference between "worshiping satan" and "develop critical thinking through your songs on various topics"...
