Wow. Just Wow!!! Today’s introduction to the White Mountains was a rugged 8.2 miles up and over Mt. Moosilauke (4,802’). We hiked it southbound so we could climb the steepest part rather than descend, but it was a tough hike no matter which way you would choose to go. On the way up we paralleled Beaver Brook which featured the tallest waterfalls we’ve seen yet. The views from the top were unparalleled while they lasted, but clouds came in while we were snacking.

If you are a fan of waterfalls, there are 4 in Crawford Notch. Two are right on the road as you head toward the AMC Highland Center from the trailhead where you reach/cross Route 302. The other 2 can be reached by EASY walks to them; .06 to Ripley Falls (between Ethan Pond and Route 302) and an easy 1.0 walk (children do it) to Arethusa Falls which is NH's tallest falls at 200 feet. BOTH these falls are dependent (as they always are) on how dry a summer we're having.
