Two months post op and just about ready to live a normal life. Beginning week 9, I had already been walking in my own shoes but with a limp. Acheiving full dorsiflexion became the main goal, riding more scar tissue via therapy and self massage, and stretching the tendon back to it's normal length.
In these crucial two weeks, I've managed to minimize my limp with exercise and continuously walking. Also walking around the house barefoot to give the tendon more strength and better range of motion. Here I am in this video, back in my hammock and ready for travel once again. I was cleared by both my ortho and physio to do so. :) It's been a long journey! Cheers

Dude I watched like tens of post op videos on RU-vid. Yours are the best by far, relaxing. optimistic, and promising, no nagging and complaining like the others. I really enjoy the music that are typically being played on the back of your videos. I am week 2 post op now, and your videos are really great!

Hey man! I’m really glad you’ve enjoyed the vids and helpful in a way that’s as you put it, not complaining haha. I watched a ton at the time of injury and seemed pointless with nothing that benefited me really. So I hoped to provide more insight and positivity that I couldn’t find! 😊🤙🏽

Thanks brother! I hope you are doing well! Your videos have the zen-like vibe which is needed with ATR's! I am a day shy of week 7 and will be traveling to Maui with my wife and kids. I have been out of boot for one week and walking decent with slight limp. I will try to incorporate your marching technique! Thanks again for you vids! Trent

Hi Trent, I'll be traveling right at week 7 , hope to be walking without crutches , likely in-boot, but will take knee scooter to take load off my feet. Can you share your experience in Maui? Any tips or pain points etc? Was it hard to get around? Any pain etc.? Thanks! Imran

+Imran Refai awesome that you're cleared to travel at week 7. Do take care and don't push yourself harder than you can go all while allowing your foot to readjust to movement. :)

@aperezvoyages
@aperezvoyages 5 лет назад
+Daynor _ Hey man! Not a surprise to hear that you'll have to be in the boot for that long. I was in the boot for about that long too. It was 5-6 weeks before I removed a crutch. And two weeks later I was back in shoes. It still is all depending on injury, surgery and simply the person. Sounds like you're in good hands though! I'm two years since injury.

+Daniel Estrada You'll love Hawai'i island. So much to do and so much space in some places it doesn't feel like Hawai'i. White and black sand beaches to snow atop Mauna Kea. :)

Good to hear you are on the mend. Something I forgot to mention. When using backpackers get a bbh card. It's about $45, but you will save around $4 a night in all bbh backpackers and you will get a guide with ratings so you can see which ones work for you. I would have recommended Pentlands backpacker in mount Eden, but sadly it is no longer there. It was a great long term place and I made many friends and memories here. When I return I am looking at ponsonby backpackers. Not sure what it will be like. If bamber house is still going I would happily stay there as it was only a few blocks from Pentlands. Enjoy New Zealand :)

+Lionababe1 haha thank you! I'm outside of Whangarei in northland . Been camping ALOT! And love it, just not prepared for cold compared to Hawaii. Good quality Internet is hard to find here . You don't know how bad I've been wanting to upload some travel videos . :( haha
@Lionababe1
@Lionababe1 6 лет назад
Yes. I have been told the internet is bad.it's also expensive. It's New Zealand's winter or early spring I think. It rains a lot there. I went to Whangerai falls. I followed a photo I saw on the internet and was surprised it was in the middle of town, but I recreated the photo anyway:) if you can maybe a new Zealand sim card might help. I am considering getting one. Not sure what the prices are for one though. You are brave camping. Look forward to seeing New Zealand again.

+Lionababe1 I'm taking a chill day tomorrow. May even buy a motorcycle here. But will see the falls for sure before I continue. Camping has been wonderful, besides the cold at night! And I have an American plan good for three months.

Anthony Perez I am glad you are enjoying the camping. It's a shame I can't show you the few photos I did take while I was there. I have heard that cape reigna has changed a lot since I was there. I showed a girl at the airport who had recently been and she was amazed when I showed her what cape reigna used to look like. It will be interesting to see if you can still stand next to the lighthouse or not. It has also just come to me keri keri is on the way to cape reigna. There is a place called waitangi treaty grounds. It has a lot of Maori artefacts including a Maori meeting house and canoes. Enjoy your chill day you have plenty of time to explore :)

SOmeone just recently told me about the Waitangi treaty grounds. Something ill want to check out. Someone also told me that Cape Reinga looks entirely different now. Like built up more for tourism

Hey man. This video gives me hope to recover. This is my second week after surgery and removing my cast tomorrow. Do you happen to know how bad was your rupture? My tendons were about 3-4cm apart according to the MRI
@aperezvoyages
@aperezvoyages Год назад
I can’t recall the distance in the gap. But if I could put a percentage, like a 75-80 % tear that became like 90 up until surgery. 🥺

Hey buddy just checking in, I’m at week 6 post op and I’m walking barefoot and with Slippers on. Does this mean I’m recovering faster? How’s your scar tissue now? I feel like that the tissue is keeping me from fully walking.
@aperezvoyages
@aperezvoyages 4 года назад
I donʻt know what the extend of your injury is as it all depends on that. But I would be very careful with slippers that early on. Just my opinion. But if it was far less severe than my damage and your doc okʻd it, then all good. I was able to put on slippers on week 9 but still waited to wear them one I saw easy full flexibility. For me that was 2 months. It was important for me to be sure as should anyone. :D

Hey you mentioned that non-op didn't work for you after a month, how did that happen? I'm going non-op route and wasting time and energy with no results is my biggest fear at this point. Any pointers or pittfalls etc?
@aperezvoyages
@aperezvoyages 6 лет назад
+imranr hey man! Do you have a doctor or physio at the moment? If you do, you're in good hands. I didn't for that month and didn't follow the proper steps I needed because I had no guidance. Which led me to push for surgery. I was also in Hawaii with no one to help me other than one friend who just put a roof over my head. Other than that, I was on my own. Quite shitty but I ended up getting help and meeting people who helped me out in the end.

Hi again, at what week where you allowed to gently stretch your tendon and how did it feel once you started to stretch it?
@aperezvoyages
@aperezvoyages 3 года назад
I would say about 4-5 weeks post op I was able to move my tendon at a decent angle without fright. Granted I still had limited mobility which took more time to heal but that first month post op is crucial

@@aperezvoyages I just finished week 4 after my surgery for a 50% tear. Will get the boot in 2 days and start physio right away. I'm really hoping I can make it to my trip in May to drive down the PCH and Death Valley. I was wondering at what point you realized that you can basically do the exercises on your own and not need the supervision of the physiotherapist? My trip falls on week 9. Theoretically I can find a physio along the route I guess.
@aperezvoyages
@aperezvoyages 5 лет назад
+Roman Ivanenko hey brother! Glad my videos help with insight. You may have limitations on your foot flexibility making it hard or risky to drive. 50% though means a swifter recover than mine. Mine was like 90% by the time surgery came. I would tell your doctor and physio especially to see how you can speed up the recovery process as did mine. I left for travel on week 10 if I remember correctly backpacking with a cane for a few weeks.

@@aperezvoyages Thanks a lot for the replies! It's definitely been tough being stuck in one spot with this injury as I'm sure you you understand. I also try to explore the world as much as I can(45 counties so far). Maybe this was a little sign to slow down and chill out a bit. All the best in your travels!

+Roman Ivanenko Bro, you are literally the near reflection of me, my experiences, and my story as a traveler. I'm at 39 at the moment. But all I could think was " I messed up" "I can't travel now". But it's not the end and there is still a way! Btw, how did you rupture it?
