It's been a hell of a rough past several months. But since my Achilles Tendon surgery, I've been managing very well and recovering rapidly to make it back out to world exploration. I've gone from two crutches with 25% weight bearing, to one crutch weight bearing as tolerated, two zero crutches full weight bearing to losing the boot and being back in my shoes. One thing I've been looking forward to doing is walking again. And although I've gota while to go to be back to normalcy, I'm super happy to at least walk again.
Stay safe people and happy travels.

Thanks for the updates, I had my surgery Dec 4 and it's no fun. Going from 2 crutches to 1 and finally to just the boot has been a very eye opening experience. The positive I found was really appreciating the normal things I missed...walking, carrying a drink, getting out and socializing, etc. Your videos are really great at breaking up the stages and putting true emotion on each. Great stuff, hope your travels are fantastic!

Thank you so much for these inspirational videos, I love your positivity! I’m in week 3 post surgery (had two weeks in a cast before surgery). What struck a chord for me was when you said you felt down because it’s exhausting using crutches and constantly asking for help. I was really active before this happened (running and gym) and being stuck at home with limited mobility is affecting my mood. Watching your videos has changed my attitude and I’m focusing on each day at a time and celebrating small victories like having stitches removed! Thanks again for showing that there is life after an Achilles injury! 👍

+Vicki Hedger ah man what a huge pleasure and blessing to share and keep your motivation going! It was my intention to document and share as I was seeking the same and barely could find just that on RU-vid. Keep your positivity up because you'll need all of that to push through this injury. Let me know if you need anything or have concern🙏🏾

How you all got through it. With out being in depression 😪😔 Am in my 5th week post surgery. But man. A lot of people telling me to take my time. But they don't know how the heck I feel about being partially immobilized. When I was working on going down the ramp or stairs on day by day at work. Be doing what I love driving truck 🚚.

I know exactly how you feel Rudy. But the key thing to have in recovery is patience. Lots and lots of patience! I wasn’t able to do what I love and that is the travel for many months. But I knew and understood that the only way I could travel west to have patience and take it day by day. It was definitely the hardest thing about the injury other than the injury itself.

Thank you so much for sharing your recovery. I had the exact surgery about 4 weeks ago, and going through almost the same processes. My PT would come soon, but I’d like to know what I’m expecting. Your journey gives me clear roadmap to full recovery. Thanks again.

An absolute pleasure man! This injury is more psychological than physical and the journey is dreadful believe me. But this will be a good time to reflect on everything while you get back on your feet slowly but surely. Have any questions just send me a comment/message! Aloha brother

I am 4 weeks post surgery and have started wearing my aircast boot. It has been a struggle staying positive - but as I am told conflicting information at the Chinese hospital - I have read the manual and instead of the short cast have opted to wear the boot! And for the first time in 4 weeks have i been able to move. So happy days. :)

Good choice on the boot. It makes a hell of a difference. So happy you pushed past the hardest and trying part of recovery. First month sucks and will test your patience! Bravo 🥳

5 years ago I raptured left achilles tendon, had several splint changes for 4 weeks, then boot for almost 4 weeks. After 8 weeks I was walking in normal shoes with sight hump. Started pt after 6th week, pt lasted 2 months. Here I am with second achilles tendon rupture, this time its my right achilles tendon. Since I have experience before, after rapturing it, didnt touch my leg at all, went straight to the hospital where I had my first repair. I had my surgery after one day. Now I am 3 weeks post op, my doctor removed split after 13 days post op and started wearing boots. The doctor also said that I must weight bear around 20 percent of my weight. I have been doing rom after 1 week post op, now my foot is around 90 degree angle, and I can stand straight. This time, my doctor trying different method, which is weight bearing as soon as possible, and I think that works great for me. Also, my doctor said after 4 or 5 weeks I will be starting full weight bearing with one crutch. I am hoping that everything to go as planned without any complications. Fingeres crossed for now Thank you for sharing your experience.

Yea each step forward is a major accomplishment it seems, pun intended too lol. Was your injury rugby related. When I arrived with my cane in Auckland and visited one physio doctor, he said Achilles patients came in every week from Rugby related injuries 🏉 . NZ treated me so well my brother. Still wear my pounamu close to my chest every single day.

Where did you get your surgery done? Queens or Kuakini Hospital? Looks like you live around the Kapahulu area. I ruptured my left achilles back in 2016.

I used to live in that area at the time! I had my surgery done at Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) Hawaii Surgery Center with Dr Harpstrite. Solid surgeon

+Mychal Turner as long as you are cleared for full weight bearing you can walk on it and adjust. You will have discomfort since you're not used to it but will be fine in no time

I'm getting better but this nerve regeneration is killing me. It's like fire lol

JESSICA Hi. I'm just curious what does it mean like fire? I'm 2 week post operation and having Walker boot. In the night I have like burning feeling on the bottom of my heel. Is it related with some nerve issue?it is killing me :( terrible and so painful...
@jessicacrosby72
@jessicacrosby72 6 лет назад
Tomasz W yes it your nerves trying to heal. What I do is use an ice pack at night to ease it. Omega3 helps with the healing process as well.
@wilq84
@wilq84 6 лет назад
HI JESSICA. Many thanks for response and advice. I will try to use it, however without boot it will be bit risky to put an ice pack during sleeping time. Do you know more less how long it takes for nerves to be regenerated?or it rather depends individually? Yes I'm eating a lot of fishes and omega3 in capsules as well. I'm also eating supplement called cignon. It is for joint and tendons regeneration. Take care
@jessicacrosby72
@jessicacrosby72 6 лет назад
Tomasz W My doctor said it depends on the individual. However ,I'm getting ready to be on week eight and I noticed that the burning sensation is only in my toes. I use the ice pack that the hospital sent home with me. Propped my foot up laying side ways with a pillow in between my knees. Then laid the ice pack on my ankle (which was basically a quart ziplock bag) horizontal. The Percocets I was prescribed at night and ibuprofen through the day.
