I like how compact the NX8 is. It would be sick with a larger exit pupil, but I don't find it too problematic. Mated to a 12" Grendel, it's a great combo. I have the Razor Gen III 1-10x, which is another great scope in this class. Looking forward to getting the Vortex AMG 1-10.
I have not used it yet, this is more of an unboxing/optical properties type video vs a review of functional use at this point. It is my opinion, however, that the NX8 and ATACR are similar for CQB until you introduce things like a VTAC barricade, etc. where the eyebox of the ATACR may (or may not, depending on the shooter) pay off. However, at distance, I very much prefer the ATACR's optical properties, as you can clearly observe 90-95% of the FOV whereas the NX8 outside of what NV guys call "Zone 1" is rather blurry due to the depth of the field of focus being so short. That was my original impetus to stomach the 5.2oz penalty and snag an ATACR.
I had the the opportunity to look through a nx8 a few months ago and I was not impressed. The vudu has a much flatter image that is sharper and overall just cleaner edge to edge IMO. The nx8 has a prominent fish bowling effect at low power. Still a good scope but for the price I think their are better options.
It does fish bowl, but the bright illumination plus being very nearly a real and true 1x make it awesome on 1x, dynamically. I prefer it to the atacr for those reasons on 1x. To me, where the nx8 functionally compromises is light transmission and depth of field at 6-8x.
If you adjust the diopter properly it will flatten out the 1x a bit. I still think it is a great option if you are looking for a small, lightweight LPVO.
