Tutorial: Flashing EmuTOS onto DFB1 with the DFBFLASH tool.
DFB1 has a footprint for an 29F400 512k flash ROM chip and the 221018 firmware (current as of December 2022) has support for booting from this in the normal TOS4.04 address space (0x00E00000).
In this video I'll flash an image I've been sent by a user to test that it's Falcon compatible & discuss the jumper configurations necessary to do this.
The DFB1 is an open source booster card for the Atari Falcon 030. More information at: github.com/dh2...
All source published under the terms of the GPL v2.

Great video!!! I forget, is the DFB1 open source - I might have a go at building one at some point next year!

Thanks, Gadget! Yes. It's all open source. If you don't hold too much of a candle for the FPU then it's pretty reliable. We've been working through some issues with the top speed not quite matching some CPUs capabilities and different FPUs being a bit temperamental, but I'd be tempted not to even bother with the FPU and run at 40 MHz, to be honest. :)

I think I need one. I was trying to set up my Alt Falcon (as in the one that is closest to stock, as I haven't quite figured out how to get the top on my other bird with the SV in it...) and well, I loaded up Papyrus X on it, and since it requires 640x480@256 colors, it is crazy slow... though maybe that was because it was before I remembered to install SpeedoGDOs... but still, going from a 16mhz 030 to a 40 or 50 would be a massive improvement.

can you do a short video how you make your jumper extension cable for switching between Bank 0 (TOS) and Bank 1 (EMUTOS) ?

My DFB1 only has a 512k flash, so no bank 1. My jumper lead extends the configuration switches at the top right. The third of which (from the left) controls if flash is active (EmuTOS) or not (onboard TOS4.04).
