It's kind of odd. Aside from a couple forum posts and RU-vid videos these are really flying under the radar. Even AtGames site is still showing the Atari Flashback 9 and last year's Legends Flashback instead of this year's models. None of the usual retailers seem to have them (Walmart, Gamestop, Best Buy, Dollar General, etc.) on their websites.

I agree that’s strange. These new ones are Sams Club exclusives. But I’m not sure why we’re not seeing regular editions in Walmarts yet...

Fantastic video Mur! : ) I bought the previous version last year and I really enjoyed it. Super Burger Time was on the one from last year and was probably my favorite title from that version. If this version can be upgraded like last years version...this system will be pure GOLD! Looking forward to your live stream video of this unit and any future upgrade/update videos of this unit! Like yourself I collect these plug and play units, and always seem to get them as gifts for Christmas etc... And I always enjoy seeing your take as which ones are the best ones to get! Fantastic video once again!

Ah, the feeling when its that ONE game. But there will inevitably be other insta-faves discovered. I’ve got 10,000 ROMs on this thing between 2 sd cards. Life is good!

There is a file on the downloadable update file that you can get to without updating the unit. Just unpack it to get to the pdf. It gives you info on why they use certain versions of a game. There is even rom files on it for the games as well as the file that does the updating.Supposedly the rom files that are there have bug fixes of games that didn't run right on it.

Ahhhh this is why I got the old one for $11 last week.... From the looks of things this may be one of the best at games products. Would be cool to get a portable version of this series someday.

Nice review! Ok these are not necessary "Legends" status games but the line up is quite good! And just the fact that it has an SD card slot is definitely a bonus! I have to try The Immortal game... it looks awesome! Great video and keep up the good work!

It’s every bit as punishing as AVGN claims, but back in the day, we didn’t really look at it that way. Back when those same EA games were better and often more popular on computer. It blurs a few lines in the genre department and was just one of the many treasures from the REAL Electronic Arts era. So many masterpieces.

Game selection looks varied and interesting. Personally I’m just not big on these products especially with their last East Ms Pac-Man issues. However I recognize these aren’t made for folks like me and have their place to make the right people happy. Good review.

I actually am really curious about this one because of Fix It Felix Jr. Aside from these Legends releases I don't think there's any commercial release of the official arcade game! And if the emulation quality holds up, and you can add all different kinds of ROMs to it, this may be the one to get. It looks even easier to work with than my Retropie for streaming!

Last year’s model definitely performed well. But the newest update wouldn’t take so only Genesis ROMs could be added. This revised update should allow this one to have it all and imo the emulation is just fine. I’m sure some tech wizard could slow it down to another dimension and find the sound is off by an eighth of a nanosecond and make a faux outrage clickbait video about it. But if we’re being real, the emulation is just fine and the unit was great for streaming. Yet the Atari ones are not because the elgato can’t detect sound coming from them. Very strange.

@@Emceemur Oh, good reminder about the sound issue on the Atari device. I was considering getting one of those for streaming too, and that's kind of a problem. I'm sure it's something weird about the HDCP or other hi-tech acronym. I look forward to more videos delving into this device more! Thanks, as always, for bringing this stuff to our attention.

I have the previous version, 50 games and used sd card with Name only roms which got lucky and got the ROM pack with fully working only roms with their cover art. I'm hoping this newer version has the ability of putting more emulated roms. I'll wait till you do a follow up on an update.

It’s a neat console and Ive added almost 10,000 ROM files to it between 2 SD cards so far. It’s basically a cheaper option to a Retropie.

They published Atari Flashback Classics for current gen which included 5200 games on vol 3. So it’s technically on their radar. The controller build may prove challenging but name your price. I’d pay it!

Does anyone have an older firmware for the special edition of the Legends Flashback Deluxe, (MODEL NO: FB8660S)? Perhaps before November 20th? I am still missing four games from mine since the November 26th and the Nov. 28th version does not appear to have fixed it.

Yes, it was Sega wherever it could be as far as the versions. I haven’t played the Star Wars games since the 90s but this didn’t feel wrong. You can play dang near anything with the Sega-6 button.

Mad little pixel tried pairing this with the arcade 1up cabinet and he couldn't get the fight stick to register properly. Looking at the included games, it is a great system. I recently picked up all the Johnny Turbo arcade games on the switch eshop. They are surprisingly good. It's good to see them all on here as well. Also retro bit sells Genesis 6 button controllers with the included port attachment for this system. I came across it looking for Genesis mini controllers. I settled with the Sega Saturn six button controller for my Genesis mini.

I really want one of those blue 6 button controllers. I’ve just been running crazy and haven’t been able to pick one up. I still wanna do another SFGE episode like we talked about. A cutting room floor kinda thing. I filmed that funko pop footage and forgot to use it. Interesting about MLP. I’m surprised he bought one of these as much as he hates the company. I wonder if he likes this unit any better?

@@Emceemur In his review video MLP was reviewing his friends unit. He was surprised with how AtGames was able to get the licenses for all those games. I think he liked the unit as a standalone especially with the solid games list. He did not like that it didn't sync with the Atari arcade 1up machine properly.

Hi everyone. I managed to get one "Legends Flashback DELUXE (110 games)" delivered to my country (France) from the USA. But sadly, I got no manual in it..... I can see that manual can be found online as a PDF file for standard version (FB8660) but I cannot find it for DELUXE version (FB8660S). Please anyone, post a link for it. Thanks a lot. Cheers.

My first thought is that I'm surprised to see so many Disney properties on this--I would figure those to be locked tight by the big eared beast. Do they feel pretty good? Games like The Lion King and Super Star Wars, I feel any issues of control could be detrimental there.

No issues at all. It’s been since the 90s that I really wailed on those Star Wars games but the controls were plenty responsive and all the games look good. I was most amped for the Coleco cuts on here though! Probably because I’m older than Methuselah. Lol

Played great! Now, of course I’m using a real Sega 6 button on it but that goes without saying. But these Legends Flashbacks are on another level. The older Sega units from AtGames may have had issues but these definitely don’t. We’re gonna do big things with this’un!

Good job on this the look says cheap but its actually a good unit did they stop doing wireless controllers? i guess At games doesn't like the cost of it. I thought so too! But people have been telling me I am too loud and intense. And angry looking. I tried to dial it back a bit but if people would be more into my over-enthusiasm I’d just as soon not change. I’ve always been concerned people think it’s an act. So many fake tubers out there. Yep, NES is there too. Strangely though, last year’s firmware update didn’t recognize added NES ROMs. I seek to fix that on the follow up vid for this one. I hope it’ll do the SNES & NES ROMs and Sega too.

It would seem to some, oxymoronic, I know, given their track record on the old consoles but these really are good. Not in the physical sense, the controllers are cheap and the console housing is nothing special. But in the emulation. And since it accepts original Sega controllers, the included controllers aren’t an issue. I’ve noticed no sound issues or anything so far.

Hard to say, because I’ve yet to see a non Deluxe version for sale. But you can bet it’ll be only $10 less so this will be the version to get, regardless.

@Emceemur yes it is. Maybe it's my SD card type? It's a 32gb it that too big for the system?. I can't hight light on the sd card option in the menu screen? It's like there is no sd card in the slot or something.

Yeah, it has to be 16g or smaller. So that’s probably the issue.

Warning: the Firmware for Atgames on the Special Edition version of this dropped today - 11/26/19. It breaks the functionality of four games(no box art and games do not load). The Immortal, Brutal Sports Football, Eliminator Boat and Hostages. Already dropped an e-mail to At-games regarding this issue. More to follow.

@@Emceemur That indeed is a question. As ecmeyevideo indicated, his has Atari capability out of the box and the maker of the CFW for the older version reported that this newer model does indeed have Stella capability. AtGames seems to have opened up a world of possibility with their cabinet and as this device can be user with the cabinet, I wonder what's coming next.

Well, there will be a firmware update on their site that should correct it. But if you’re gonna add the ROMs, dont bother, since you’ll get the games anyway.

I just bought a 100 game 2019 legend flashback. Updated it with the custom firmware but when I put games on sd renamed with no spaces and .bin they show up on the console but don’t play. Help me!

Ok let’s run thru this. These are Genesis roms you marked .bin? And how many did you load? Are they in a folder named GAME ? Have you checked the files for any subfolders hidden in the rom list? Because it’s gotta be just rom files. 16g SD or smaller?

Alot of valuable information and I'm not one of these "aliens are coming" conspiracy theorists 😅 the masks are freaking me out. Anyway, I've been playing this all week and it's decent. Too many Colecovision games and 80s arcade games but a nice RPG in Brave Battle Saga. I say the system is worth 20 bucks to me.

Just picked up this today. I had the first gen if this for about a week and sold it to pick this up. The GBATemp CFw for the first does NOT work for this. Well, it does but it turns your device into the first gen and removes access to the newer games. Anyone know of a CFW for this version?

I contacted AtGames for a more up to date firmware update but there doesn’t seem to be one. It remains to be seen if I can get this thing to play 8bit NES, SNES & Genesis too.

@@Emceemur Mine came with access to the SD Card already installed and yes it does Genesis. The older version with the CFW allowed Genesis, SMS, Gamegear and MAME. I was kind of hoping the CFW would work the same and technically it does but I didn't like losing access to all the other built-ins. Luckily, on the AtGames site there is a 11/18/19 FW update and it allowed me to reset the system to factory and all the built in deliciousness.

So you played ROMs off an SD without updating the firmware? I did notice the SD option was already on screen.

@@Emceemur I did the most recently update and it didn't change anything. I didn't mod it. Also the super star war games needs a select button to play corectly but the Genesis style controller doesn't have one.

It sounds like running any update at all will brick some functionality. There’s another comment thread here from James McDermott where he explains a similar scenario and how to revert it back.

@@Emceemur I had the 100 games version instead of the 110 games version. From what I have seen online, the 110 games version seems to work better than the 100 games version.

Is this a legal and officially licensed product? They've used some big names, like Disney, to sell their product. I've never known Disney to throw their property around like this. Doesn't seem like it is on the up and up. DISNEY.....IS THIS LEGAL???

That’s a good question that many are asking. I assume they have the rights to the ROMs on the unit and nothing beyond that. But, they’re at Sams Club so scoop one up!

@@Emceemur at least one of the games wouldn't load. It would occasionally pop up the controller config menu when I know I didnt push it. My kids did enjoy playing it so maybe I should take back the sucks lol

Yeah if you didn’t update/modify it, all the games should work. And involuntary menu popups may be a bad controller or port. Id just exchange it.

Emceemur no sir, just the same. 4 games missing. Place marker is there for the game but no box art and the game doesn’t load. It’s weird.
