This time I'm taking a look at the 2018 and 2019 AtGames Legends Flashbacks! I've always passed these up since I wasn't really sure what to expect, but as always you guys recommended I pick one up so here we are! Both models are great systems (after upgrading the firmware) and are a STEAL at around $20-$30! **Complete Games list at the bottom of the description**

Just to clarify, only the 2019 model is compatible with the Legends Ultimate Arcade. If this changes in the future I'll keep you guys in the loop!

Watched this video yesterday. Went to Walmart and picked up the last 2 for $11 each! Such a great find. 🤗 Bought this mainly for the Star Wars games i was never able to play. But a personal bonus, i didn't know there was Colecovision games on it. That was my 1st gaming console! And it has 3 games i had as a kid, Cosmic Adventure, Venture and Zaxxon. Plus some other games like Jumpman, which i remember playing but not sure on what system. Most of the arcade games of i have on my Genesis mini already thanks to your previous videos. So keep up the great work. 😎

Solid review! The 2019 Legends Flashback is surprisingly great; I picked it up specifically for Fix It Felix, Jr. I actually have the Deluxe version from Sam's Club, which has black buttons, not gray, and an extra 10 games.

Based on my experience with the 50 game version, I'd definitely recommend this one. With the caveat that the arcade emulation isn't perfect. Mostly sound distortions occasionally, maybe a bit of lag. But the Genesis emulation is spot on, just load up an SD card with the unlocked roms from the Steam collection.

Oh, also if you do the SD card emulation, NEVER backup your saves. It destroys your existing saves from the Genesis roms.

Worth giving a shout out to Retro-Bit's officially licensed 6 button Sega Genesis gamepad. Bought one to replace the poor AtGames gamepad on my 2018 Legends Flashback and it worked perfectly (Not all 6 button Genesis controllers work as they should on the AtGames system). The shoulder menu button on the controller even works on the Legends Flashback, with as I recall one press of it bringing up the menu screen seen at 15:07 and two quick taps loading a credit. You can of course do both commands with controller shortcuts, but it's nice to have a dedicated button for it.

Hey, your Blast! consoles, do any of them contain the arcade ROM, rather than the NES version? Remember that bing a bit of drama on YT for a while a few years back.

As far as I know, only the Namco Arcade Blast! has arcade games included.

Hey Patton, I'm a fan of yours, and like you, am also a fan of these AtGames systems. I have the Genesis portable and the Genesis Flashback 2018 (the good one). Well until I conducted an experiment. I installed the legends firmware on my Sega and now my pre loaded games have vanished and in their place are the thumbnails for the legends pre loaded games. Weird but true. So I thought I'd fix it by reinstalling the proper firmware, didn't work. Familiar with this issue, and would you know how to do a factory restore? Sorry to trouble you, but Google doesn't work. Thanks pal.

Like you J.P., I was not sure what these systems were all about. Roughly six months ago at my local Walmart, I found both 2018/19 units on clearance for $11 each. What the hell I said to myself and took the plunge. Oh boy, so glad I did. Both units worked surprisingly well and (Walmart seems to no longer have these in stock) you can order off of amazon.com for roughly $30. Just don't pay some crazy amount (like $80) for the 110 games model. The additional ten games can be added via sd card slot. One last note for J.P. Be careful with Betty... She's one sharp bitch!!!

It’s kind of ironic and to be expected, isn’t it? AtGames products used to be everywhere and terribly overpriced for the crap they were. Now, apparently, they’re stepping up their game and making better consoles, but either no one knows or no one trusts the company any longer, so those consoles pass by with little notice, allowing most to be purchased at ridiculously cheap clearance prices, only to have eBay scalpers profit off the reputation AtGames created for itself.

I got the 1st legends and the Atari fb 9 for $11 a piece. Keep your eye open when the new models go on clearance at walmart! I was able to mod the legends a bit and gave them as Christmas gifts. I wonder if you can flash the original legends to the new version....

I was told the 2018 version has less memory but there's a custom firmware available which will allow that version to run arcade ROMs among others

Does the 2018 version hook up to the Legends Ultimate or just the 2019 version? I ask because in the APL menu on the Legends Ultimate the 2018 version is not listed.

Just checked and it does not. Looks like that it is compatible with the 2019 version only.

AtGames has definitely stepped up their game and been producing quality for cheap. Firmware updates and ease of adding more games as well. The PS Classic, Genesis mini and TurboGrafx mini all have games out of the box that run terrible, having sound and input issues. Big name companies should take note. 😂

I'd have to disagree about the TG-16 mini. Mine finally arrived recently from my US Amazon reservation, and they've fixed the controller lag, especially on Lord's Of Thunder. All of the games run absolutely great! I feel bad for the people that bought it early off of Amazon Japan, and paid for the first run of them. It seems like they would have received the better product for their money, if they would have only waited.

Love all mini consoles, buy i don't see the need to buy them cause i own a Sega Megadrive mini already. The only one i would buy, a descent zx spectrum mini, not the ones out now, there crap, i returned them. AT games stepped up there game and going in thé right direction, next a handheld mini? Would love a Sega game gear Mini that you can connect to tv with controllers 😇

It’s very hard to sell me on an AtGames product. I have both Atari Flashback X consoles as part of my ongoing complete, NIB mini console collection but they’ve had such a horrible reputations for many years. I believe they have tried to step up their game over the last two years, and I hope so, but it’s not easy to win over customers quickly.

@@SumDumGy Outside of RU-vidrs courting views and likes, I'd guess the At Games products were deemed to be good enough for most people who just wanted a quick and easy way to play old games. The quieter voices are starting to come out now. Most people didn't have the original carts running on an original system side by side on two TV's with the At Games systems in order to compare and trigger their own collective meltdowns. Picky people looking for problems will often find problems. It's still going on to this day. Even the official PC Engine, T16, Coregrafx mini is getting abuse from some corners just because it hasn't be hacked yet. Says more about those people than it ever does about any company's products.

@@bigbabatunde1218 I disagree with everything you said here. That entire “good enough for...” premise is why a substandard merchandise market thrives today. It’s apparent people can and will pay for quality products that are presented to them, even in the face of mediocrity. If you’re okay with “good enough,” that says more about you than any company’s products. Companies like AtGames and Hyperkin would thrive if they put in half the effort to produce quality the way Analogue and RetroUSB do.

@@SumDumGy Quality come with an increase in price. I and many others ain't going to pay £400 upwards for a device with preloaded games unless we can get to pick the games. Plug and play devices going for under £100 that genuinely play good enough are where the market was and still is.

Have you played the Sega Genesis games on PC (Steam) yet? I played Streets of Rage 3 and Golden Axe 3 last night with my Sega 6 button controller and it was awesome! 99 cents per game was well spent! I'm going to try Toe Jam and Earl 2 tonight. I'm interested in games I can get that aren't on the Sega Genesis mini because I'm not interested in hacking mine. I leave my PS classic for hacking.

Beware of the UK 2022 model if you're looking for Mega Man games, Street Fighter 2 or EDF as those games have been removed on the 2022 UK available version.

2018 version Stock is Genesis, NES, 2019 version Stock is Genesis, NES, SNES and the Sams club version plays Atari 2600 2018 version with custom firmware is Genesis, Sega cd, master system, gamegear, sg1000, NES, SNES, Mame 2000 arcade, neogeo

The 2018 legend's can be modded with custom firmware to play Sega sg 1000, master, Genesis, cd, gamegear, NES, SNES, older Mame arcade, it's good for what it is

Press Up on the D pad and the Start button at the same time it should take you to a menu where you can save, exit, or add more coins for arcade games

Can anyone test original sega genesis controllers on this and let me know how they function. I own a 2019 model and my original genesis controllers only work in port 2, malfunctions on port 1.

You should get a Pi4 and Retropie. Yes, it's more expensive, but, after setting it up, it it way better than these atgames consoles. Pi4 adds support for better N64, PS1, and Dreamcast emulation.

I have a pi3b+ and odroid xu4, so I am familiar with how they work. I don't think they are everyone though. Some people want the simplify of "plug n play" especially if they are buying for their kids.

@@PattonPlays Agreed. Plug and play is nice and easy, and it is best for most people. I was more so just suggesting that you get the pi4 (4gb model) to install the latest version of retropie for a review. It's a great device that is much better than the 3b+ and ODroid. You'd love it

I Bought a Pi Last week over getting the TurboGraphics Mini. Im very happy with my choice Got the 256g Image and It has all the Turbographics games! plus tons of other stuff.

I think the proliferation of official mini consoles has forced AtGames into making some half decent products nowadays, which is a good thing really. They really did make some dreadful garbage a few years back.

@@PattonPlays I like it. It's pretty easy to add to it. I'm a big gamer and I do like tthe value for the money but I did notice the console ports are mostly sega genesis. Plus I want one of at games legends ultimate but the price tag. Just gotta wait a bit longer

You're actually a FAN of AtGames? Man, I stopped buying their products after constantly being disappointed with the quality. Not to mention the lousy wireless controllers that rarely respond. Though this Legends Flashback definitely looks more promising than any of the ones I own.

@@PattonPlays These are obviously roms played on an emulator, and some of the games are SNES or NES games. Keeping in mind that Nintendo sued two roms sites and won, how can this not be?

Can you do a video that shows the game lists for the 50 games and 100 games, and also what games are not on the cabinet game? BTW are there games on the 50 not on the 100? And with the card slot can't you pretty much have all the games from the 100 on the 50? What I'm asking is at this point would a 50 unit be just as good as the 100, or is there a significant reason you'd get a 100? (I'm assuming the 100 cost twice as much as the 50) I'm trying to figure out which one to get, and I'm also tempted to get the cabinet.
