I've wrestled with God, for 53 years. I thought I was an atheist, I headed a large secular organisation. Despite my arguments, something always nagged at me. In 2010 my son was seriously ill, he started having focal seizures and ended up on life support. The child in the bed next to him died the third night he was in hospital. Our son was in a coma, they told us he might not make the next 24 hours. I remember being alone and begging God to save my son, I prayed hard , I mean really hard, it was overwhelming. As I was praying I found solace, I found something that told me everything was going to be alright. This went on for 6 hours, I was utterly exhausted. The next day the doctors told us they were going to start transferring his breathing from the machine to my son, the process took 6 hours. On the 5th hour he took over the breathing despite the doctors believing he wouldn't. He came out the coma, he was blind in one eye and lost his ability to speak but over the next few months he completely recovered. I've prayed every night since. My son is now 16, he's 6ft4" and super smart. I mean really smart, confident and unbelievably fit and healthy. I believe he is meant to be here for a reason. Everyone who meets my son is fascinated by him for some reason, he's magnetic. He commands the room. We hear people say "that boy is going to change things" and "that boy can do whatever he wants" I believe God listened that day, he gave us such a gift.

Peterson’s self reflection and slowness to give an answer to a deep question is something I truly respect. “There’s a lot of things worse than death.”

This is my first time watching this show and I must say the host is a great interviewer! Personable, curious, intelligent, and asking real questions

I've been following Peterson for 6 years and recently converted to Catholism in March. It's really interesting to see these 2 parts come together since it has been reflected in my life

"I LOVE HOW HONEST YOU'RE, ARE YOU AFRAID OF DEATH?" What an smart way to extract the truth from someone.

Dr. Peterson sounds so angry, frustrated, with the brokenness of the human race, there's a sadness in his heart, his awareness seems heavy on his inner peace, he needs a break for his peace of mind, he is so interesting, intelligent, he has a great wisdom, I don't know what I am seeing, but he seems like he needs a break, live, love with his family, I pray that God brings him peace of mind. God bless you and mother Mary hold your heart.

The catholic church is in fact experiencing a rennaisance. It is heartening to see so many great minds and people of good conscience saying yes to God.

The ability to pause, to leave silence is so rare... but Matt has it. There's a moment when he asks a question about death and the pause is a few seconds long. The temptation to fill it with an um, an aha or even a further question or softener would be great... and Matt lets it sit. Exactly what Jordan needed to put the right words he needed to convey in place. One of the best interviews by either I've seen.

Dr. Peterson’s answer concerning him having faith or not is brilliant, because he explains EXACTLY what the council of Trent states when it condemns Sola Fide. Dr. Peterson is arguing that faith cannot be a mere thought or pronunciation, it must be lived and enacted, this is precisely why Saint James says “faith without works is dead”

Personally - as a big Peterson fan - this has to be the best podcast conversation I've listened to with him 100%

When it comes to God and Scripture and faith, I've never heard someone so completely get it and so completely miss it at the same time.

I really respect how you kept pushing Dr. Peterson to clarify not only your questions answers, but also what he means.

Newly baptized Roman Catholic here (just this past Easter Vigil -- thanks be to God 🙏), and I have to say this might be my favourite interview of all time. Both PwA and JBP have really helped me to get my head (and, even more importantly, my heart and soul) straight after years of depression, anxiety and addiction (+ leftism 😜) in the Orwellian hellscape that Canada tragically seems to be falling into, and I truly thank everyone involved in this production from the bottom of my heart. ❤ In particular, I found Dr. Peterson's explanation of the staff of Moses very helpful, as I have struggled with witnessing the Passion (the more I come to know and love Jesus, the more it hurts to see Him suffer even as a reenactment, a sentiment to which I expect many fellow viewers can relate...?). Tying it back into the Old Testament was an inspired stroke of genius, and I feel like I deeply understand for the first time why God sometimes calls us to face the worst of the worst. I can't speak for anyone else of course, but this is my testimony at least and, as I continue to grow in the faith, I'll be praying for everyone listening and for the conversion of all souls to our Lord Jesus Christ. I was a student at the University of Toronto in 2016 when all this kicked off. My admiration for Peterson and his moral bravery is very deep. Thank you for standing up for truth. It's truly inspiring.

I think what most Christians who hear JP talking about Christianity fear is that he speaks of our faith in a patronizing manner. You hear it especially when he speaks of his wife’s faith - “it has really worked for her”. That is not what we are talking about as Christians. I’m not saying anything about what JP actually believes and I pray for him. All I am saying is that Christians are not mere pragmatists. We do not believe Christianity because it works. It works because it is true.

Faith is LOYALTY. It isn’t always a feeling. It is LOYALTY to Christ and trying to pick up your cross and He picks it up for you.

Matt, you did an incredible job composing yourself so humbly, calming, and peacefully throughout this interview!

This was, by far, the best interview with Peterson to date. He clearly expressed here views with which he'd often struggled in the past, showing a phenomenal cristallization of knowledge, all on extremely important topics, one after another. I'd been very sceptical of his cooperation with Daily Wire in the past but it seems to have done him good. Thank you for this.

OMG, Matt you are such a kind, artful interviewer. Jordan was so stressed, stiff and non-comfortable at the beginning and he started relaxing as he went on. I am a fan of both of you, Jordan, you have a blessed mind, i always learn so much from you. I will keep you both on my prayers.

I am praying that Dr Peterson will someday have that personal, transforming meeting with Jesus Christ. It is hard to listen to him trying to plumb the depths of Scripture but overlooking Jesus' call to "believe in him whom [God] has sent". It's like watching a thirsty man measuring the depth of a well but refusing to drink the water.

I’ve been following Jordan Peterson since I was an adolescent. As such, I’ve become intimately knowledgeable of his material and it has certainly produced many fruits in my life. It was Jordan Peterson who set me on a path which eventually led to the Catholic Church. I have much to thank him for. All this is to say that you, Matt Fradd, have produced one of the greatest, most insightful interviews with Jordan Peterson. It was so great, I almost lament the fact that this video will likely circulate among mostly Catholics as the larger audience could greatly benefit. I really felt as if my understanding of my moral hero was greatly elevated through seeing this interview. Your skills as an interviewer should certainly be commended and I hope you are a name which Jordan remembers for future prospects.

I do love how Jordan stops and thinks before he answers if he has any doubt about the answer.

Grateful for Matt to ask the hard but relatable questions, the “I really want to believe and know conceptually that I ought and should believe, but cannot commit to belief” type of questioning so many of his viewers can relate with, and for Dr. Peterson to meet us with his perspicacious and hardy answers 🙏

I love how freedom of speech flows out of his mouth. I feel so stifled and censored all the time and listening to him talk about removing lies from your life as your first step away from hell is fantastic advice.

I was happy to see him smile, he was very stern throughout. Discouraged to see him squelch the levity and revert back to being somewhat tense. I hope he is well. Still, happy to catch up. Both Pints and JP have been edifying.

Why is he so angry? 😂😂😂 I like Peterson but to paraphrase something you once said “Peterson will have a great complex interpretation of scripture except what it actually means.” I do have to give credit to Peterson for me being Catholic. A few years ago as an agnostic, I heard him say one should live as if God exists. That made sense. I grew to actually believe in God, to ultimately being here as a Catholic.

Jordan Peterson is a good man. He has and is continually bringing people to the church, whether intentional or not. Someone I admire greatly. I am glad he hasn't 'picked a side', it is better that the Holy Spirit guides people. Jordan will find home ❤ Thank you Dr Peterson, for being you. Cool video, My relationship of 5 years ended a month ago. The love of my life decided to move on, I really loved her so much i can't stop thinking about her and the memories we shared. I've tried my very best to get her back in my life, but to no avail. I'm frustrated, and i don't see my life with anyone else. I've done my best to get rid of the thoughts, but i can't. I don't know why I'm saying this here, but i really miss her and i wish i could get her back.

I really appreciate how I always feel like Jordan is being honest. He's not playing a role and it is hard to not be a hypocrite when talking about the what is highest

This has to be my favorite Jordan Peterson talk of all time (I am 79 yr old woman) and so glad it’s on Pints With Aquinas! I listen to both these men frequently and got to see Jordan Peterson in upstate Ny in February, a highlight in my life. Will definitely watch this again and share with many. Fantastic interview!!!! Peterson is the great Platonist of our scientific age, cast in the language of modern psychological analysis. Great witness to the convergence of true science and true faith!

My father agreed with Mr Peterson’s estimation of “science”. He had 4 degrees and a photographic memory. He talked about entropy quite a bit . He often said we were already 25 years too late starting to do something about the energy problem. My dad passed away in 2003.

I love Mr Peterson and I know he’s tired of hearing it but he needs to put on Christ’s yoke. It is light and easy and it would help him dealing with these things that so perturb, sadden and anger him. God bless you JP, may the Holy Spirit dwell in you always.

I’m about as tired of Christians trying to pin JP down on his faith as he is. You did a great job with this one. Wait for the comment section to light up with suggestions for trying to box him in with faith questions.

I’ve seen very few podcasts where the interviewer gives so much time for some of the deeper questions and actively questions the interviewee’s answers. This is one of them- great interview.

I am amazed at how this interview went, and very grateful. Matt has been intelligent, respectful, and certainly inspired in the way he asked questions. I've never seen Jordan so exposed, close to the core of what he truly believes (because, even if he says he doesn't believe, but instead he commits, well he believes in his commitment without belief...). For quite a long time I've been confused about Jordan, I didn't know what to make of what he says about christianism. And this interview made it a lot clearer. In my case, I knew him before I converted, and he has been a great help. Sure he is a blessing for all those who stepped out of chaos and even converted. He is so clever, articulate and deep about a lot of things christians didn't saw themselves in their own tradition, or forgot. He is a mine of gold, and a rather good father figure. But, but, but. He is not a christian, and his posture doesn't get to the heart of the christian faith, and for someone who wants to follow Christ, not saying clearly "I believe Jesus is God, my God and Savior" makes all the difference. This tells with certainty that something, somewhere, is not entirely true in Jordan's way of thinking. Being so categorical about the "fact" his mode of apprehension is correct is a threat to the faith of christians who maybe listen to him too devoutly, as if he were a priest. He is not. Don't forget, the more you approach the truth, the slightest deviation makes an abismal and potentially seriously dangerous difference, that's what heresy is. Matt insisted on this with delicacy many times, put it on the table again and again, without success, Jordan always dodged it, and it's that you can't really commit to what you don't believe in in the first place, what you didn't accepted. It's not simultaneous, you can't act out pure evidence. That's just not how human condition his, and all the philosophical tradition of christianism is formal about that, reality as we experience it is not self-evident, we are believers. You have to believe, unless you are God, or already in heaven and God took all the place in you. Especially you have to believe in someone, in his existence, in order to enter in relationship and commit with him, otherwise it's all impersonal interaction between two objects, you don't really meet. Believing in someone is considering and accepting his existence, is saying "I recognize you are a real person as I recognize I am a real person", it's a leap of faith that demands you to accept reality, what and who's in it along with you. As you do that your idea of reality includes another one who is like yourself but not yourself, a person you consider as a mystery you can't conceptualize just as you can't conceptualize yourself, you can't grasp what is "me" and "you", you can't make a representation of the other in your mind, you just can encounter him as he is. Then, after you've believed that, you have to decide, if you don't love, you don't meet, you don't encounter, you don't enter in relationship. Relationship is the accomplishment of belief, the entering door of the Kingdom of God, the second leap of faith that permits God to enter your heart and make you what you are meant to be : first a friend to Him, and inside your friendship with Him, inside Him, you become a friend to all, that's communion. The notion of relationship never appears in the way Jordan talks about God, it's all about "the spirit" of something, "the Logos", even "Christ", it's all conceptual, it's not a person you have to believe in. Notice he doesn't often say "Jesus", instead he says "Christ", and that's true of many others who stayed at the edge of christian faith, but with a lot of "christian wisdom" like Simone Weil. Christianism is primarily about believing in God, believing Jesus is God, and then enter in a loving relationship with Him, encounter Him. There are no tricks, it's a meeting with someone in the simplest way you can apprehend it. Jesus is not just another "manifestation of the spirit of God" or a simple "embodiment of the Logos" that calls us to adventure, shows us the best possible model of virtue, teaches us the right thing to do and leaves us with the symbol of the Cross to stare at our own malevolence and cure from it. He is God himself, who died for us, because of our lack of goodness, and forgave us, not as an abstract spirit, but as a person, as a friend, our best friend waiting for us to receive his Life as an undeserved free gift, a pure grace. His Life being, well, Being itself, or I should say Being himself ! Jordan is right to insist on our own responsability, and yes people, especially young men, terribly lack of that these days. But as christians it has to be clear for us that Jesus didn't suffered his Passion and died just to show us we have to take our cross and do the same for the sake of cosmic order. Above all, he saved us because he loves us, we, his children. That's his name, God's holy Name, Jesus, "God saves" (by the way, that's why the "God damn" got censored as a blasphemy, because it's a lie, God does not damn, creatures damn themselves refusing God, that's what Jesus came to reveal, he calls us friends, you don't damn a friend, even if he is the worst). You can do all the effort in the world, set things right, go for the adventure, clean your room, get married, conquer your fears, tell the truth, and those are all good thing. But good things are not the Good. And at the end, if you lack the Good, Jesus himself, the Way, the Truth, the Life, well... It's all in vain. We can win little battles, but the war against death has already been won by the only one who could do it, God, and true humility is accepting it. We don't conquer our salvation, we receive it. We are beggars, we can be kind of heroic sometimes, but first of all we are beggars, as children are, completely dependent on their parents to stay alive and grow. Voilà, that's my take on it. Jordan Peterson cited liberation theology as an objection to Catholicism. But in 1984, the Church (through Cardinal Ratzinger, as head of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith) strictly taught against this theology. I encourage everyone to read the Church’s lengthy and beautiful statement on this. “The present Instruction has a much more limited and precise purpose: to draw the attention of pastors, theologians, and all the faithful to the deviations, and risks of deviation, damaging to the faith and to Christian living, that are brought about by certain forms of liberation theology which use, in an insufficiently critical manner, concepts borrowed from various currents of Marxist thought.” And, lastly: “The intense concern of the Church, the bride of Christ, for the needs of mankind, their joys and their hopes, their pains and their struggles, is nothing other than the great desire to be present to them in order to enlighten them with the light of Christ, and join them all to Him, their only Savior. It can never mean that the Church is conforming to the things of this world, nor that she is lessening the earnestness with which she awaits her Lord and the eternal Kingdom.’”

I love the distinction between arguing your position and merely trying to be right

This is hands down one of the best interviews with JP I watched. And I watched many! There was nothing really new in there but the context, the setting and your loving style to almost never interfere made this so valuable for me. Like I believe the world hasn’t ended yet because places like mount Athos still exist the existence of JP is a proof of God in itself!

I was reading an old New England newspaper from 1885 and a doctor noted that he was told eating all vegetables was a healthier way to eat, so he tried eating both an all vegetable foods and and then he tried all protein food and felt that the all protein food was a better and a healthier way to eat and that he felt better and that people needed more protein more than the vegetable's. He would be canceled today.
