Athing Mu: I'm Happy She Not Goin to the Olympics 

I'm a Brit, and so you might think that Athings non-selection would please me as it increases Keely's chances of winnjng that illusive gold medal...but I 'm not pleased. I am not pleased at all. With Athing missing in Paris the 800m final will be diminished. Athing's record is terrific. She has gold medals all over the place and only two athletes have run faster than her this century and one them was Caster Semenya. Athing is an American treasure...no, change that, she's a global treasure.

Mu is 22, which is young. What did you do with your God given talents at her age. From your live podcast and background not much even now. You never know what is happening in her life. What type of injuries she has sustained. She was clearly going after a record that should be removed from the records since it was done under East Germany state sponsored program. But here is the gag. She is 22. She will be on the scene for the next 12 years or more. Her only mistake was picking the wrong coach. Which at 19 or 20 is likely to happen.

Can see her going from 1.54.97 to 1.53.99 by the end of this yr for #3 all-time & then running 1.53.27 next yr for a new & long overdue WR! USATF will definitely try to get Athing to run all the rounds of the W4x4 & Mixed 4x4 (with Quincy Wilson) in Paris to get her 2 Gold Medals & possibly at least one WR in the process!

I firmly believe her biggest mistake was leaving her coach from Texas A&M. She seemed more happy and was racing more often. Instead, she let Allyson Felix and her sports agent brother convince her to move to Cali and train with Kersee.

Next time she gets on a plane will be vacation or World Championships. What? Is WC not considered the big stage for track and field. I do not understand why athletes are debuting at WC/Olympic Trials. Is this not serious to them? There are 16 yr and 18 yr old high schoolers wishing for a chance. I watched this race and do not understand why she did not take the lead. She has a long stride so she needs more room. I did not see her attempt to get up quickly or rejoin the group. I hope her and her coach regroup because the enthusiasm is gone.

Don't always agree with you, but this time I do. She wasn't prepared at all. First meet the Olympic Trials? The stars need to show up for the meets. Not have their pictures on the banners/posters for the meets and pull out. Sometimes she seems more interested in "fashion" and modeling. She can be one of millions of attractive women who want to be "fashionistas" or she can be in her own league as a world and olympic champion.

I’m happy it happened to Athing Mu, too. Just like I was happy it happened with Sha’Carri Richardson. Why? Because I’m rooting for them. I wanted Sha’Carri to get the hell off social media, quit worrying about responding to each and every person, get focused, and come out with that top end speed of hers and whoop @ss. When she was going through it, I was like, “this is good because she has the ego to come back angrier and shit people up!” I’m glad this happened to Athing Mu for the same reason. I am hoping this mishap makes her realize how talented she is, and get that hunger back, come back, and threaten that work record like she was on the trajectory to do!

Jamaica IS automatically the top 3 that makes it. Its even more strict than the US. Only exception is for a Top 3 world ranked athlete to get a medical exemption and later prove they are better than the 3rd placer. Years ago, it was just top 2 and 3rd discretionary like in the UK.

It’s funny people complain about entitlement in all aspects of their lives except when it comes to things they care about. Mu hardly ran all year and didn’t make top 3 in the trials, but the US should still put her on the team because she has won in the past?

As much as most on here saying this is harsh you have some good points . As mentioned she had been running since a young age and seemed content or burnt out . Not only do you mention the article but I recall Athing saying that since she had accomplished her goals she was considering not running and had other goals/dreams like modeling . She absolutely is blessed and it seemed once she won a medal she may have been unmotiveted/content. She has the kind of talent she can cement herself as goat 🐐 in this distance . Hopefully this will be a powerful lesson for her to not take any opportunity for granted and will motivate her .

I'm not going to lie brother. You're absolutely right. At first I was kind of taken back by the title I was kind of took him back by the first monologue that you said. But now I'm listening to it and in its entirety I fully agree with you. A lot of these track athletes are track athletes cuz they could not make it anywhere else. I was a track athlete. So I do understand but they could not do 3 months straight of activity. Maybe no allows. He's there from day one to the championships but other than that a lot of these people couldn't be athletic 3 months straight.

I can assure you that in Jamaica it's actually the first three who make the team. They adopted this policy quite a few years ago to avoid the controversy that came with the previous discretionary policy.

Pride comes before the fall. I saw this coming last year. She started developing a certain air about her I didn't like. God sat her down and humbled her. That L.A. lifestyle got to her. And I like her.

Not focusing on track and filed for 2 consecutive years (2023 - WAC Budapest, 2024 - Olympic Games) should have consequences and unfortunately we see them. Most other athletes would clear their schedule out of anything that interferes with their athletic progress and it usually requires personal sacrifices, strong metal and physical abilities, proper support team and peaking at the right time (at the trials and at the Olympics). All of it is not easy, but necessary..
