@GA Hullbilly Ranch I wont own one.. After the fiasco i delt with over the Aeres model I got from them. Whatch that video if interested. A lot of guys like them and they may be better now. But just not the product for me. Appreciate ya watching..
@@TheHide do you know anything about hilux rifle scopes. I looking a the hilux or athlon scopes than are clones of leupold mark 4 scopes for the mk12 & m110 sniper rifle builds. Until I can find 2 used leupold mk4 scopes.
@@GaHullbillyRanch I used to really love Athlon Optics matter of fact I spent over $20,000.00 on Athlon scopes and they recently screwed me over over an Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29x56 which was defective straight out of the box. I own 2 of them and one has an issue with the Illumination only half of one side of the reticle Illuminates normally while the other half is significantly dimmer throughout it's entire intensity levels. My other one's Illumination is fine and evenly Illuminates the reticule but the turrets and controls are all unbelievably stiff to turn literally unmanageable and get cuts and blisters on my fingers with the extreme stiffness and sharp edges. Athlon Optics manager Chuck would not warranty repair nor replace it because he told me some are like this defective straight from the factory by design while others are fine so they already know there will be a percentage of bad ones and as long as it turns on, to them it's not defective even though only half of the reticle Illuminates normally. He adamantly said that Athlon will not replace nor repair these defective scopes because they're not defective that's how they get some of them from the factory. I told him this isn't right and is this fair after spending so much for this scope he said if I had a problem with Athlon not repairing nor replacing my CRONUS BTR then just go and buy their Midas Tac that doesn't even have Illumination so I won't ever have this problems. This Athlon Optics manager guy Chuck even told me to buy Nightforce sunshade for the Athlon Cronus BTR since it matches the finish perfectly. There's a lot more to this story and it only gets worse. I haven't even used the scope and they screw their customer over just like this on their top of the line $1699-$1799 scope. I should have switched to VORTEX a long time ago!!! Never any Athlon warranty BS with VORTEX.
Great idea and good fix, I own the Argos 6x24x50 in MIL and MOA and I will try this out and see if I get better turrets and better audible clicks....thanks for making this video....did read about this fix, but thought you have to break deep into the scope to do that.....not so!! Thanks again.....these scopes are absolutely awesome and this little fix makes them pro quality!!

@@TheHide Happily my scope, target rifle and rings all arrived today! Early Christmas present my wife says. 😁 Even better, turrets are crisp, not mushy. Also came with zero stop shims. Yay!
Late to the party here but the O-Rings on the turrets seal against the inside of the turret cap. Couple the press fit, plus a heavy grease, and your friction fit masks the tactile sound and feel of the clicks. Removing that very viscous grease allows more free movement.
Good deal, from what ive heard the newer production Argos scopes have been redone from the factory to have the new grease. So hopfully you wont have to do anything to it. other than that its an awesome scope!
My Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29x56 has the same MUSHY Turrets..Its a damn shame ya buy a $2,000. scope and find out it has mushy turrets.Mine went so far as to not being able to identify 4 clicks on the Windage..Thanks..Great Tips.I also got away from Athlon..I went with Tract Toric and Valdada.. What a big improvement it haS BEEN too.I ;love the Push/ Pull Turrets and Zero Stop on the TRACT TORIC. I also got 2 Delta Stryker scopes.Best move I ever made.
That was the first thing I did when I got my argos last February or so. I've always had decent turrets because of that. I never thought anything about it changing stuff. I didn't turn the turrets much before I wiped the factory grease out.
The Hide. I just got my Argos and the turret lines don’t match up from the knob to the lines on the scope. Do you have that issue or if I take the knob off like you did can I adjust them to match up?
A lot of budget minded scopes with the style of turret used like these, they wont always line up. Just have to get it close and thats about it. Alot of times it will zero to one side or the other of the horizontal stiada. Just nature of the beast.. Thanks for watching.
Ron Warren I totally agree, this scope replaced the Viper HS-T that I had. I was just not impressed at all with that scope compared to this one. I could have bought 2 of these Argos scopes for what I paid for that Vortex. The Argos is just as clear at less than half the cost. I won't own another vortex after getting into these. Yeah now I only buy SWFA, Primary Arms, or Athlon. Vortex and Leupold are overpriced as you pay for name and marketing and it's made in the same factories.

I have not heard about the Helos on this fix. With that said if the turrets are for the most part the same as the ones mentioned and have that old grease in them I don't see why it wouldn't work... Granted you may want to check with Athlon first to just double check.. Thanks for watching!

Athlon brags about their Helos BTR turret knobs being very tactile and clickable, like service rifle sight knobs. "Click, click, click." Watching this video makes me nervous about buying an Athlon. Frankly, I wish Steiner would come out with a CMP approved XTC service rifle scope with nice, tactile clickable knobs.
I was told that changing the grease would not voidvthe warranty, as the newer productions scopes are being produced with updated grease to fix the problem.
There shouldn't be any grease or lube in or on any scope turrets, scope turrets should be dry as a bone. Putting grease or lube in a scope turret, it's a recipe for disaster.
