I've recently watched plenty of reviews on top folding stocks. Yours was the only one that talked about the stock cutting up your upper thumb and that's what I've been wanting to know. Thanks for review. I'll go with a side folding stock.

I have an exact same setup on my Maverick cruiser with a 20in barrel. At first I wasn't happy with the stock not folded flat, but when I got a fore grip on there I started to appreciate the gap. It allows me to shoot it folded while aiming down the barrel.
@project86xero
@project86xero 3 года назад
I figured out how to get it to fold flat in 30 seconds. When it's open there's a plastic lug that sticks up in a channel on the right side where it hinges. Shave off a tiny bit and it folds in closer. If you take too much off it'll stam down when you fold it. That's one of the reasons it's designed the way it is. It's also designed so it stays up enough to see the front bead under the folded stock. I wouldn't shoot it like that, but hay it's there. Also it's probably beating you up because the length of pull is to great. Needs to be 2-3 inches shorter for the average person. Which is my complaint. Honestly try pushing forward with your off hand before you fire. Push with your pump hand and pull with your fireing hand. It's a common defensive shotgun technique. Also put some grip tape around the grip to add a bit of palm swell. Then get a A2 compatable rubber grip sleeve. That bit of cushion and contouring really helps when shooting with the stock folded. I'd also ditch the two point sling for a single point. I do single points on pump guns because I've seen a ton of people grab the sling with the pump when training. Only time i use a single point btw. Then add a velcro 5 shot card, which is the most you can fit with the ati stock folded. An for extra ammo use an all velcro belt or bandolier with a bunch more velcro shotshell cards on it. Then you can swap them out when they run dry. Add a cdm gear light mount and a good flashlight and your good to go. Maybe a xs big dot front sight if your feeling spendy. All in all this is a great gun. An now that mossberg sells it in this configuration it's a no brainer. Now don't get me wrong I'll take my benelli m4 over my maverick any day. But I'm not going to leave my m4 in the car 24/7. But the maverick... no problem. If i didn't want it to be so compact though I'd go with a 20 inch barrel and 8 shot tube, as well as the magpul stock, no question. But the 18.5 with the ati folding stock is a great vehicle gun option. Plus with the 5 shot tube it's legal in all 50 states.

I have a Yugo M70-AB2T underfolder and I have a cheek piece mounted to it and all the bare aluminum needs is a decent rubber pad to slip over it. What I'd do for this stock since I have one, is add a cheek piece and a recoil pad. I haven't had the issue with thumb knuckle bite but if I do I'd add some rubber to the stock in that area too or a gel cushion pad.

Not sure if you ever found a solution or anyone else to that folding stock not sitting flush but I found out what's pushing it upward and was able to fix mine and now it looks great! Basically on the right side when fully extended there is a semi rounded (I would say like a stopper) that you need to sand down just a bit I found that it's lifting the folding stock when it's in the closed position so when you sand it down it'll drop and look flush, Hope this helps! Good review. Couple of points from owning both a version of the shotgun and ATI stock for a while. This is a great shotgun. I have the crusader version with the door breach. The ATI folder is great, but I had some of the same issues with mine. It's easy to file away the plastic on the stock where it interferes with the rear part of the firearm. I found it easy to locate the interference and now the stock fits flat. For me the pita is that the ATI butt stock overall length is too long for my length of pull. But it being made out of plastic, I can drill & trim the location of the butt plate up just a tad. I can always add black epoxy to fill in gaps or voids if I goof on this. As far as the kick, just use lighter loads.

I don’t think that notch cut in stock would work for aiming. Idk if ATI meant to do it or not but given the geometry of it you would be shooting over top of whatever you are aiming at. It looks like that notch it floating like an inch or 2 over the barrel like mid way done. For a BB sight to work you need to be looking completely flush down the barrel. Other than that, great video.

I'm going to go off of a limb and say, "Probably not." This stick will barely clear a 19mm Picatinny/weaver rail, much less an optic mounted on top. You would need to do some serious modifications, like drimeling out the hollow channel and possibly cutting some notches to allow for clearance for thumb screws, rail clips, and any random pins and adjustment knobs. If you're going to be using a red dot, it's going to have to be a really small red dot.

So this is legal on a mossberg shockwave??
@Deorse
@Deorse 3 года назад
Absolutely *NOT*. Do *not* attach this to a Mossberg 590 Shockwave or a Remington 870 Shockwave. You'd be illegally manufacturing a class III AOW or "short barrel shotgun" at that point you would need to fill out a form 4 with the ATF, apply for a $250 tax stamp, and wait for the ATF's blessing *BEFORE* attaching a top folding stock to your Mossberg Shockwave or Remington Shockwave. Also some states such as Indiana, Illinois, New York, and Commie-fornia do not allow SBS's (short barrel shotguns) in their states even if you have the proper paperwork with the ATF. If you get caught with your Shockwave with a top-folding, side-folding, telescoping, fixed stock, or even a vertical foregrip attached to your Mossberg Shockwave or Remington Shockwave and you get stopped by a police officer/sheriff's deputy or ATF agent you will be arrested, your illegally modified weapon will be confiscated and destroyed, you will get charged with what I believe is a class 4 felony, face a 10-year jail sentence per incident (per illegally modified weapon) plus a $250,000 fine per incident. Just for a quick education breakdown on why Shockwaves are allowed to exist is because they fall into a grey area with the ATF. The ATF defines a shotgun as a long gun, this long gun must have a barrel length of no less than 18 inches or greater and an overall weapon length of 26 inches or greater in overall length and may have either a buttstock, pistol grip, and/or vertical or any combination there of. The ATF also defines a firearm as a long gun if the receiver of the firearm has ever had a buttstock attached to it at any point in time. The receiver is legally classified as the firearm because it is capable of accepting housing a trigger group and firing pin. Mossberg Shockwaves and Remington Shockwaves are legally not classified as shotguns (long guns) or as handguns. They are strictly classified as "firearms" or "gun." The ATF has also limited the bore diameter of any pistol to .50 caliber. A 12GA bore and 12GA slug are .75 caliber in bore diameter, so legally speaking a 12GA and even a 20GA cannot be legally classified or defined as handguns. Shockwave is a third-party company that orders incomplete (stripped down) shotgun receivers from Mossberg and Remington. These receivers legally speaking are the firearm and in no point in time have they ever had a buttstock, pistol grip, or vertical foregrip attached to them so they legally do not fall under the category of long gun, shotgun, hand gun, or class III AOW/SBS. The "pistol grip(s)" that these guns come with from the factory are not legally classified as a "pistol grip" either, it is more of a "dove tail" and this in conjunction with the overall length of the receiver (which is roughly about 8 inches in overall length) the overall length of the barrel (about 14 inches) brings the weapon out to a grand total length of 26 inches. Again this firearm is legally not classified as a "shotgun" or "long gun," because the receiver never had a buttstock attached to it and the barrel is shorter than 18 inches; this firearm is also not classified as a "handgun" or "pistol" because it does not have a legal pistol grip and that the ATF has limited the bore diameter for any handgun/pistol to .50 caliber and that both 12GA and 20GA exceed that greatly; this firearm is not classified as a "class III AOW" or "SBS" because it has never had a buttstock or vertical foregrip attached to it and the weapon is over 26 inches in length. Legally speaking, there is little to no room for modification to your Shockwave outside of extending the tube magazine, installing a door breaching muzzle device to the end of the barrel, or installing an improved optic on it without you committing a felony. Sorry for the long-winded explanation, but I needed to cover as many of legalities of this particular weapon in as much depth as possible. If you have a *"regular"* Mossberg 590, then yes you may install this top-folding stock to it.

I have not done anything to the butt plate pad yet. I custom reload my own ammunition for this shotgun that has less kick to help mitigate the excessive recoil. As for gluing a piece of tire tread on there, I wouldn't do it. Tire tread is kind of a hard piece of rubber and will not provide a lot of shock absorption if any at all. I will not be expected to be on the road away from my home for weeks and sometimes months at a time without a way of defending myself if the situation arises. A lot of truck drivers get robbed, mugged, and (for the female truck drivers out there) sexually assaulted/raped. I don't plan on being victim. FMCSA or not I do not comply with laws that are abhorrent to my right of self-defense. There is nothing that I have read thus far, in regards to the FMCSA being against a firearm in a CMV. Anybody else feel shotgun butt stocks are too long that makes for slow mounting
@Deorse
@Deorse 2 года назад
No, not really. I have yet to find a shotgun stock with too long of a length of pull, usually it's the other way around.

Do you have a link for the rear strap mount?

The actual sling mount comes with the ATI stock. As for the sling swivels, you can pick those up anywhere gun accessories are sold. Bob Allen and Uncle Mike's make standard 1 inch sling swivels for rifles and shotguns. Uncle Mike's sells aftermarket universal sling mounts for shotguns.

@@Deorse Thank you, brother! I am already set up. I didn’t realize the stock had the spot for mounting on it.

Not folding flush? Small magnet and dab of glue, bro.

Yeah, all good points, however the top of the receiver to the shotgun is made of aluminum, and I'd like to eventually attach a rubber butt plate pad to the end of the stock.
