If they go with the trend they did with our main 3 protag, she'll be watered down. She's kinda quipy, but less aggressive, less rude and less blind jokes. "Can't have our heroes be problematic!"

OMG😭i was so hopeful ab szn 2 but this reaction/discussion was so discouraging THE HIGHEST RATED, AND MOST FAVOURATED EPISODES BY EVEN FANS ARE EPISODES 2, 6, AND 8. This finale actually saved the show. I'm not sure where this weird negativity is coming from; instead of being open minded or logical/fair. They did their best and wrapped things up nicely with Sozin's Comet

Idk. Mixed bag is what the show deserves imo. The changes and updates the show did with Iroh and Zuko, great. 5 stars. Everything else with the main gang, are iffy to mid. Kiyoshi fight was dope, but that's it. Aang did not deliberate run away from Avatar responsibilities. Huge change imo. Because when other people keep saying it or Aang says it to himself, it doesn't have that much impact. He left to process the fresh news of being avatar, on the same day the Fire Nation attacks and by coincidence/destiny he got stuck in the storm. He did not learn waterbending at all. Like why? He knew there was going to be an attack at the North. As early as episode 2, Katara and him had a discussion about learning together and it appeared to have ended nicely. But surprise surprise when we reach the North, Aang has not even practiced with Katara? And that's just Aang. Katara and Sokka are both watered down too. Katara doesn't have her fire and passion yeah, but she's also not the nagging but loving mom of the group. Sokka lost his character growth from being sexist and he didn't even do strategizing or engineering stuff. They talked about it in Omashu and did nothing else about it for the rest of the season. Come to think about it, he didn't do much warrior stuff either after episode 2!

@@PaulJohnson-zv3hl "people are allowed to have opinions" as a criticism on someone's opinion feels a bit like Paku saying water is the element of change and adaptation and then saying women aren't allowed to bend. I mean, Dee Dee is allowed to have their opinion about the discussion and it kind of makes it more special to comment on that too?

It seems like the whole "turn mortal one day out of the year" for the moon and ocean spirits was to parallel what Yue was saying. That becoming mortal and enjoying life on the mortal plane was something worth living for, even though it's only one day. It ties into how Yue enjoyed her life, even though she knew she would have to sacrifice herself to bring back the moon spirit. But it was worth it because her one day with Sokka made her happy to be alive. She can now sacrifice herself without regrets because the world could return to being in balance and her life could be used to continue to protect the ones she loved.

I do like them showing more of Ozai and his "human" side and how much of a shitty father he is, the zuko and Iroh moments were definately the highlights but overall I thought iut was fine for an adaptation but I'd of rather they'd done a Legend of Korra live action or a sequel within the world since its more mature tone anyway but thats just me

Hi! Personally, I quite liked the changes made, because if it were exactly the same as the original series it would not make sense for me to watch it. Furthermore, the combinations of stories have been done in a quite ingenious way, being able to tell essentially the same story but from a different approach, and for me that makes the show very interesting. Also, there are changes that I think work better for a live action, because if they were kept as in the animated series they would be too cringe, like Bumi's personality or not having a romantic interest too early between Aang and Katara. On the other hand, I never liked in the original series that Pakku changed his mind just because Katara was his ex-fiancee's granddaughter, because it always sounded like favoritism to me and not really a change of mentality, so making him see facts that he was wrong, and that way you could mature and evolve, it seems like a much better development to me. I must also say, the actors who played Aang and Katara were 12 and 14 years old when they filmed this, while the one who played Zuko was already 21, so it doesn't seem too fair to compare people with such an age difference to each other when it comes to interpreting such complex emotions... Just so you keep in mind, in an interview the actor who plays Aang said that to cry he had to resort to the emotional memory of the death of his hamster... You can't ask for much more at that age In short, it seems to me that overall it is a great adaptation, making the necessary changes to make it work in live action but maintaining the essence of the animated series quite well.

For me this season started as a solid 8 but slid to a 6 by the season finale due to poor writing and direction. The whole scene with Katara and Aang made NO sense and actually robbed agency from it. That being said i think the live action did it's job by getting more eyes on the property. Personally, the best thing that came out of it for me was the fact it really hits that there needs to be a Kyoshi series.

I love all of your takes on the show, and definitely agree. I overall thought the new series was kinda just mid. Some of the plot remixes were fun and made sense but others really didn't. Some of the "serious" scenes came off as more goofy and cheesy, but then they would throw in a new scene that hits just as hard as it should. They really liked giving us information early, and the main characters overall development for season 1 felt kinda underbaked, yet Zuko and Iroh really felt more fleshed out. That being said, it still was a fun watch and I'm really hoping that they take the criticisms both good and bad, and make a better season 2 and 3. Oh and to the more negative comments, remember it's important to have different points of view, and opinions, especially in making something great, so let's agree to disagree and move on

If I hadn’t seen the show I’d probably like it more but would still have questions like, why did the master of all 4 elements not practice any of the other elements? Why is there barely any relationship between any of the main 3 protagonists. Just little things like that. But since I have seen the show why did they have so many obvious changes that make ATLA so great? Like Aang burning katara, Aang and katara in the secret tunnel, aang water bending so much faster and easier than katara. They didn’t even go to the northern air temple 😢 I don’t think anyone wants the show 1:1 but don’t leave out the moments that everyone wants to see in live action. Idk why they brought so many things from season 2😂 🦉🙍🏻‍♀️🔥

bro you guys have collective brain rot for letting everyone's opinions of the show influence how you feel about it before you even watched it. Its funny cause all the things you guys say make it bad can 100% be applied to the OPLA in terms of cutting things, moving things around, and "changing" characters for live action representation we dont even see Garp or learn he's luffy grandad until like episode 400. Your inability to enjoy the show cause you really want a 1 to 1 of a cartoon is actually brainrot thriving, the cartoon is bound by being a cartoon and airing on nickelodeon so they had to imply a lot of death or real world implications, the writing is just so good you dont need to show it in the cartoon. bitching about them not having 1 to 1 lines or "they didnt do this" is so dumb. This also has to cater to new viewers which is why some things were the way they were, same for OPLA. Either way you've let the mob mentality dictate your perception of the show and you've made up your mind. Please dont bother with reacting to season 2 do it on your own time fr fr

As far as the spirits, spiritual world, the fantastical animals, and such, so far, I get the feeling that they’re trying to limit the amount of cgi they might have to use. It’s why we don’t see Appa and Momo as much as we should. For that reason, I think the explanation that the moon and ocean spirits show up only at this time is to cover this, as well as make it that such powerful spirits don’t appear often and aren’t easy to kill by usual means, hence the knife rather than Zhao simply throwing fire at it. Think of it like trying to catch an Ultra Beast without a Beast Ball in Pokémon. Maybe if they get a budget increase, they can afford to include more animals and spirits other than just the ones necessary for certain moments or scenes.

I think the "overcomplication" of the whole ocean & moon spirits was to make it make more sense in live action. As in: if they could be killed with any weapon at any time, why wasn't the fire nation relentlessly trying to do it already over the past 100 years? If it's only 1 night and only with a special spirit blade that it took time to find/acquire, that makes more sense. Plus it explains why Zhao would attack on a full moon when the waterbenders were at thier strongest.

I don't think the Yue/Fox thing is that deep tbf. Yue can *ONLY visit the spirit world *IN HER DREAMS.* That's why that line was emphasized in her dialogue She's *not* literally an actual fox lol; she's just personified as one in her *dreams.* We all know know how crazy and random dreams can get. OR its like, when she does visit, the Spirit World allows her to change her form to whatever she wants - moreso as if she can control her dreams (lucid dream). And we all know how fantastical the Spirit World is. It's very mysterious. Even in the cartoon Sokka has fast moving relationships c'mon😂 so the writers maybe thought her meeting him prior would enhance their connection so it doesnt seem as random (like in the cartoon lets bfr) or purely based on infatuation. I think it put some depth to them. *Amber Midthunder is also a great actress*🔥. This Finale and Episode 6 are my favourites of the season🔥 they tried their best btw its good to compare sometimes yes, but lets also try do it constructively and have a open mind because they've proven that they DO know the Avatar Lore and source material. But fair reaction👍Season 1 as a whole was mid cause I truly enjoyed like *4 episodes out of 8.* Like for Azula and her team, it was just *setting them up* like you said, not full blown introducing them. Hence her going straight into season 2 with blue flames/lightning! They'll obviously expand on our girlies in season 2 loves - makes sense as they first do appear there anyways💗

My problem with the scene of Zhao, Iroh and Zuko is that the whole thing is that Zuko wins and then Zuko tries to help Zhao get away from the Ocean Spirit Monster but Zhao won't accept Zuko's help. And then he gets taken by the monster. To me that really demonstrates during the Northern Water Tribe episodes of Zuko's humanity, his honor and his goodness. And it is missing here.

I completely understand what Sam was saying, my biggest problem with the live action was Katara's character as well. I feel like she needed to be more spicy. And also I didn't like that whole master thing. I think that in the live action they portrayed Katara as a huge prodigy, who basically learned waterbending or gets power from her emotions. Whereas in the cartoon, she was not that much of a natural, for example when they stole the waterbending scroll at the beginning of the series she struggled a lot with learning that one technique. I mean she was definitely talented but she was also dedicated to training, she was really hardcore!! And Ijust don't see what is she gonna teach Aang. That one or two techniques she learned from the scroll?? The techniques that she herself invented? I don't know, I just wish she had trained with Paku at least a week.

The LA version of the Koi-Kaiju was done rather well. Aang not Waterbending through the whole season really was off-putting but I'm hoping when Book 2 ATLA LA is released we'll see Waterbending training montages. My predictions and hopes for Book 2 LA: Skipping The Great Divide, The Avatar Kyoshi trial, and The Library. Depending on how many episodes are going to be available I hope my favorites make it into the LA such as The Serpent's Pass, Zuko and Iroh meeting Jet, Smellerbee, and Longshot while making their way to Ba Sing Se, and of course The Tales of Ba Sing Se episode. I agree with most of what y'all say about the characters and how the episodes played out compared to the animated series. The reason why Dallas Liu(Zuko), Gordon Comeo(Aang), and Ian Ousley(Sokka) have great fight scenes is because they have martial arts experience and Ian Ousley said he got into martial arts because of ATLA the animated series. Lastly, I'm certain that the ATLA LA version of Toph Beifong will be done very well or most likely there will be a riot.

One thing I realized is that, even in the cartoon, Katara hardly needs training by the time they get to the Northern tribe. It’s evident in her fight with Paku. Through their journey to the north, she’s been self taught and honing her skills. That could be why she and Aang don’t receive any tutelage from Paku in this show until maybe afterwards.

Aang is a fast learner. He'll also be more willing to train with Katara in season 2 compared to season 1 cause he now fully trusts her, respects her, and thinks of her like family. About The scene where Katara calls Aang back, its actually intentional and poetic because it's JUXTAPOSED with ep 1 when it was Gyatso's memory who helped calm him down. Our girl Yue also helped of course by returnig the moon's partner. The shot looks like Aang is looking at tthe moon AND Katara. *Katara has replaced Gyatso in Aang's life - a new teacher, and a new form of love.* We will see this next season as well as his crush really form. Makes sense as its more suited for a older Gordon to play adequately. A good rewatch I think can help you understand the direction of the LI. As well as intervies from producers on how they've heard the complainnts and know how to fix em👌 So I'm not worried the changes they make made sense and hopefully they make it work especially with the kids aging😭😢 Lol I thought the Aang, Katara, Zuko sene wasn't weird or cheesy at all😂 That's one critisism that I dont get from you guys... It might just be me but I was always puzzled and felt the Iroh scene with Yue was a very out-of-character moment for Iroh, at least for me. The tone I always had from that scene in the animated series was Iroh essentially coming up with the idea and pressuring Yue - who is a child, especially from his perspective - to sacrifice herself. Even though it was ultimately necessary to restore balance and the moon, I always thought it was something Iroh would've been unwilling to do. At least here, it was Yue who thought of it herself; giving her more agency in her own sacrifice.

I also thought the OG was pretty average up until season 2-ish, maybe that allowed me the perspective to enjoy it more. I’ll look forward to your reactions on some future shows 😊

Yeah, I definitely have the same view of the first season looking back. Sure, all-in-all it turned out good especially by the end, but overall most of it's non-main plot was forgettable; it's only by S2/S3 that the show really came into it's own ^And that, I think, is part of the problem of people comparing this series; they're comparing the entire show's quality to an adaptation of purely the first season, whether unconsciously or otherwise. And that's somewhat unfair, least imo

Zhao still fell into glowey spirit water when he fell, so instead of Iroh just killing him in one shot I think the ocean spirit did take him to the spirit world as expected.

after thinking about it for awhile i liked the change for the moon and ocean spirit only coming down for a day, cause realistically fish would not live that long. in the original it says they gave up their immortality to be in our world so i like that in this they instead only become part of it for a short time. for the most part i enjoyed the show but my biggest gripe was that Aang straight up never bent a single drop of water, thats insane to me and really disappointed me

Aang did waterbending 3 times. Each in the Avatar state. It was explained in episode 2 why he hasnt started. When you said you didnt feel anything, watching your face says otherwise

On a scale of 1-100, I'm going to guess that you ladies enjoyed this adaption on a 25% level. From what I've seen, I would say a lot of folks vibe with your thoughts and feelings about this version. Which, again, are very justified and understandable. Can't wait to see what you guys think of the future books. Hopefully, they are more enjoyable for you.

idk about 25%, they liked it more than I did personally and I'd rate the show at like a 6/10 (or maybe a 5.5/10) Definitely apprehensive of seasons 2 and 3 but will still watch it bc im hopeful that the team will improve

Y’all this Isn’t rocket science, y’all are making this complicated than It needed to be. Being mortal for one day means to experience the value of life. Being Immortal you can’t be grateful for living because there’s nothing to lose. The ocean spirit taking over In this live action, I prefer more over the animated ATLA because I didn’t feel any significance of loss of the Avatar. There was no dialogue explaining the risk of losing the Avatar due to the ocean spirit taking over, they just jumped right Into It VS this live action, I understand the risk because they explained what was happening. Personally I understand why they kept saying why Ang/The Avatar Is gone. Without death, there Is no life. Without sadness, there’s no happiness. Without the dark, there’s no light. Just like the Ying Yang, you can’t have one without the other, they need each other. In this case the ocean spirit needs the moon spirit since that’s their Ying to Its Yang and because the moon spirit Is gone, with the ocean spirit It’s unbalanced. When Aang decided to give up his body to the ocean spirit, Yue explained that the ocean spirit will continuously look for Its partner but because the moon spirit Is gone, It will endlessly roam looking for the moon spirit hence losing Aang/The Avatar. IMO that one speech that Kitara did to Aang was great, a tear was drop. Sometimes things don’t have to make sense, they’re In a universe where there are benders. Honestly I don’t think It would be as emotional If she was screaming on the top of the lungs to Aang😂 My overall opinion on this show Is good for WHAT IT IS. This Isn’t animated, It’s a live action ADAPTATION. It won’t be 1 on 1 or be exact to the animated show. The OG will always be great. We don’t need this one to be better than or be exact to the original. Let this live action adaptation be great for what It Is but still show honor to the original. People need to understand that. That’s just my hot take.

@@jiv3o275 It’s not that bad. When a show like this Is animated, more like a cartoon, It’s quite difficult bringing It Into live action. If they did the live action exactly to the original ATLA It would be corny, cheesy. Plus this show had many episodes and books. Bringing all of that Into live action will take ages. Hence why they had to combine certain episodes Into one. Some changes aren’t the right move and some are reasonable. For what the people can bring Into live action, It’s still a good show. Also I didn’t mean literally great, should change my wording on that. Meant to put “good”. Let this show be “good” for what It Is. All I’m saying, comparing Is never a good thing. All It’d do Is lead to disappointment and envy. In this case, disappointment. When do most comics/books that turned Into a movie/live action ever be true to Its original source. There will ALWAYS be changes.

@@FreshhBoy95 Changes are fine, but I think it's fine to argue/discuss the *quality* of those changes. The changes to Zuko's crew? Good, even great. The changes to Katara's character/personality? Kinda awful 😖 The changes to Iroh's character/personality? Has its pros and cons, overall I don't like him as much as in the OG, but I can definitely appreciate this new spin to his character and look forward to what else will be different about him in s2/s3. Overall, you can like all those changes/plot points/dialogue choices that you listed in your first comment but there will be people that don't like those same changes, whether that be bc they want the LA series to stick to the OG series more, or bc they think the writing in the LA is too heavy handed/expository, or bc they just simply think the change added nothing to the story or even made the story weaker. You're 100% correct in your last paragraph about this being an adaptation that should be judged as its own thing, but even as its own thing, a lot of the criticisms still hold and not everyone will love the LA in spite of them. Some will even hate the LA and that's also fine.

I am a super critical person of this show. Like first episode when Aang is literally flying I was like, "nope!". The lines were very tell not show, they changed a lot. But at the end of the day I cried with Gyatso, Iroh/Zuko scenes had me super emotional, the earthbender guard, Jet and the mechanist blend was great, Suki, Ozai (it looks like they're going with him trying to kill his feelings of weakness, which is super interesting), Sokka was amazing, and so many good scenes that I really don't understand channels that if I watch through every reaction it's like they're laughing and smiling at least 80% of the time and then at the end their score is less than an 8. Personally I'd give it a 7-8, kind of. But again, that's logical since I loved about 70-80% of the show. When I see someone enjoying the large majority of the show and then go "it's a mixed back" and give it a low score it feels like they just were set out to not like it and didn't let go enough and stop comparing. Because if you watch a blind reaction by someone who's never seen the cartoon, the ratings are super high.

I keep seeing this shite everywhere. He was not FLYING. Damn. It is not the same as what Zaheer did. FFS
@Saphthings
@Saphthings 6 месяцев назад
@@bobjimhonio2942 He was flying enough. In the series he can barely GLIDE without the GLIDEr. There is 0 scenes in all of ATLA where his body is horizontally in the air and he's moving forwards. 0. With that said I think it actually fixes something from ATLA, because in all reality airbenders would glide and float a lot more irl. It was sort of stupid that they didn't. Korra with the suits tried to fix that a bit. In the series at best he goes UP a few times, like when he was blowing the whistle looking for Appa. They were very careful to never even have him glide much without the glider, which made him losing the glider a lot more impactful later.

@@Saphthingsyea I also think thts an ok change. It basically shows how he's a prodigy. If he can create a ball of air where he can sit and ride on it, then surely he can generate air strong enuf to carry himself and control his ascent/descent to a certain degree. And they also made an effort to make it look like he's bending the air around him unlike Zaheer's flying ability.

@@Buckheimer Yeah, like let's be real, if humans got the ability to bend air the FIRST thing we'd do is try to fly as more as possible. That's a thing humans constantly dream of. So at first I was like, "wait that's too fly-like...", but once I sat with it I was like, "I mean... nothing he's doing is something airbenders shouldn't be doing more of".
